Zeromus is a boss from Final Fantasy XII. The party fights him in the Stilshrine of Miriam. He shares the same name as the final boss of Final Fantasy IV, and they both have the signature attack Big Bang, but similarities pretty much end there. He does, however, have a couple physical similarities to Zeromus EG, such as the large shell and tail, and his clawed arm.

[edit] Bestiary Entry

Genus: Esper
Classification: The Condemner

[edit] Page 1: Observations

Honoring the law more than any other, a scion of holy order and condemner of criminals. Created in opposition to Knight-Star Pashtarot, scion of light. He turns his deep, abiding hatred for those who break the law into living darkness, therein to plunge the guilty in fell judgment. Over time, he came to care less for upholding the law and more for condemnation, and so tainted by hate, he sought to condemn the gods themselves to death. Thus, did he earn the title "The Condemner", and thus did he fall from grace.

[edit] Battle

It is probably best that you do not attempt to capture this Esper until after the Giruvegan plot event, to access better armor, weaponry, and items. X-Potions will be enormously useful; Power Armlets and items that protect against Slow will be needed. Bubble Belts, too, will have their use.

To get to the Throne of Veiled Gods, you will have to use the Stone of the Condemner. This can be obtained from the Acolyte on Mt. Bur-Omisace, the Temple Grounds after you defeat Judge Bergan. It can be used at the Way Stone upon entering the Stilshrine; be warned, however, as that Way Stone will now be flanked by Nightwalkers and Reaper Mages. Eliminate them and proceed with the stone. It is essential that you cast buffs upon your party beforehand, however casting Bubble is not encouraged since this will increase Zeromus's Gravija damage (however constant Bubble status through the Bubble Belt is alright). Level 60+ characters will be useful for this fight.

This is a hard battle. During the battle the magick command is sealed, so items play an important role. The Pheasant Netsuke is a very important accessory, as it makes healing items more powerful. Combined with all the Phoenix Down augments, a Phoenix Down can recover an KO'd character back to full health. Revive-item gambits are essential, because not only can Zeromus cast Piercing Graviga, which can KO your characters, but he is flanked by 8 to 10 Dark Lords. Because as many as 20 - 30 Dark Lords can spawn in this area, finishing this battle quickly is very important. Be wary of Zeromus's Time spells; the tide of battle can easily be turned, should you be Stopped or Slowed. Whack away and try to pull off a few long Quickening chains and finish Zeromus off before you get overwhelmed by the Dark Lords. Good luck!

[edit] Low-level strategy

This section is for those interested in obtaining Zeromus as soon as the plot permits.

If your party uses a large number of Mist Quickenings at the start of the battle, Zeromus can be defeated rapidly at a relatively low level (Level 35 - 40). This tactic requires two ingredients: 1) Mist Charges for all of your characters, and 2) Elixirs and Hi-Ethers. If all characters have Mist Charges, then four quickening chains can be used at the start of the battle by swapping characters out; the MP-restoring items allow more chains to be initiated. Zeromus has high HP and uses Great Barrier when he drops to 50% health, so a relatively large number of Mist Quickenings is required to defeat him.

A drawback to this strategy is that it may deplete the player of relatively rare MP-restoring items.
