Yomi is a sidequest target in Final Fantasy XIII-2. One of the Undying, it can be encountered on the Archylte Steppe in stormy weather after accepting the quest to defeat it.

Strategy

At plain sight, Yomi could be considered a weaker version of Vercingetorix since he has nearly 1/13 of Vercingetorix total HP and the strategy to deal with Yomi is no different from the foe from Final Fantasy XIII. To deal with Yomi the player needs to have Serah and Noel with at least 5000 HP or higher, even with a fully developed Crystarium.

Recommended formations are:

  • SYN/SYN/SEN
  • SAB/SAB/SEN
  • SEN/SEN/SEN
  • MED/MED/MED

The party should start the battle with SYN/SYN/SEN and buff the characters while Yomi's attention is drawn to the Sentinel. If the party has Goblin Chieftain they can use his Feral Link ability to buff all from the start. After being buffed the party should switch to SAB/SAB/SEN and start spamming ailments on Yomi; the key is to poison him so his HP drops quickly till it reaches zero. The player should focus one character on casting Poison on Yomi til the other character joins with Poison as well since it takes a while to get Yomi poisoned. At first instance Yomi may use Impenetrable Aura to heal himself from all ailments and start restoring his HP, but once he gets out of this state the player should start spamming Poison again in order to poison him.

Once his HP drops to certain levels he will start to get more aggressive and sprout more wings and will not use Impenetrable Aura as often and will instead focus on using Wind Shear or Putrescence. Whenever the party loses the buffs due to Putrescence the player should switch back to SYN/SYN/SEN and rebuff. The best moment to heal is when he uses Impenetrable Aura. The Sentinel will be needed for most of the fight. If Yomi uses Wicked Whirl the party should switch immediately to SEN/SEN/SEN to minimize damage and switch to MED/MED/MED to restore HP.

Etymology

Yomi is the Japanese word for the Land of the Dead, in Shinto mythology its related to the Kojiki where the dead go to delve and rot indefinitely.
