Rinoa & Angelo "Wishing Star" from FINAL FANTASY VIII Remastered

Wishing Star (ウィッシュスター, Wisshu Sutā?, lit. Wish Star) is a recurring ability in the Final Fantasy series. It is Rinoa Heartilly's ultimate Limit Break, generally dealing a large amount of damage to all enemies.

Angelo, with Rinoa as her rider, assaults the foe with a flurry of bullet-like charge-throughs from all sides.

Appearances[]

Final Fantasy VIII[]

Wishing Star is Rinoa's ultimate Limit Break, obtained from reading the Pet Pals volume 6 (bought from Esthar City) and then walking for approximately 1,010 steps with the ability selected in the Status menu and with Rinoa in the active party. It inflicts heavy magic damage, and in the right situations, upwards to 79,992. It is activated when Rinoa uses Combine when in Crisis Level 4. Rinoa hops onto her pet dog Angelo's back and dashes through the opponent eight times.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT[]

Wishing Star is Rinoa's last HP attack. It dispels Angel Wing should she use it while in that state.

Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia[]

Wishing Star is Rinoa's LD Ability. It does AoE Bravery Attack + Single HP Attack with 50% HP Damage to non-targets.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call[]

Wishing Star is an exclusive reactive ability that costs 18 CP to equip. It is activated in Battle Music Sequences (BMS) when a boss-class enemy appears. It deals damage in direct proportion to Magic and Agility. It is learned by Rinoa (level 40).

Etymology and allusion[]

Shooting star is a common name for the visible path of a meteoroid as it enters the atmosphere to become a meteor. There exists a widespread superstition that a wish made on a shooting star will come true.

Shooting stars have a relevance to Rinoa in Final Fantasy VIII; when she and Squall Leonhart first meet, she points at a shooting star they both saw through the Balamb Garden ballroom skylight. She repeats this in the ending.
