[edit] Bestiary Entry

Genus: Rank V Mark
Classification: Mutant Flan
Rarely, during the little-understood process of Subdivision by which Flan multiply, a Flan of purest White is born, this being the White Mousse. Known for its Tendency to swallow prey Whole, its Digestion requiring no masticatory assistance. Posted as a Mark by a certain Moogling Moogle who lost an Article of some Value.

[edit] Battle

The White Mousse's attacks include a Waterga spell, which acts like the Water spell except that it is on par with the Level 3 elemental spells. It can also attack physically, and casts Flash to Blind and Slowga to Slow the entire party, respectively. A good strategy is to cast Blind and Berserk on it, which will inhibit its ability to attack with offensive magick, though its physical attacks will be stronger. Bear in mind that Berserk wears off over time. Fire elemental spells and summoning Belias also work well. To make it easier, however, is to wait until after you have defeated Judge Bergan and buy 3 Viking Coats. Equip these right before the battle, then use the common "tank" strategy and when he spams Waterga at critical HP, he will do nothing to you. With Viking Coats, this hunt is manageable at Lv. 29.

Rewards:

  • 2,800 gil
  • Yoichi's Bow

The player will also receive a Broken Key after the battle, which can be given to Sorbet in order to obtain the Sluice Gate Key, which allows the player to manipulate water levels in the Garamsythe Waterway by opening and closing the sluice gates, which is required to battle and obtain the Esper Cúchulainn.

An alternative method to defeating this monster is by using the Nihopalaoa accessory. Even at level 30 the chance of landing a successful spell against him is quite low. So by using Nihopalaoa + Eye Drops you are much more likely to blind him with the first attempt. Then simply get one of the other characters to use Bacchus's Wine to put him into Berserk (once again the use of an item greatly decreases the odds of missing). Before engaging him be sure to get to the East Sluice Control and use the crystal there to save. If any of the other enemies get in the way, simply use Nihopalaoa + Phoenix Down to kill them instantly. A word of caution, though. The Water Elemental is immune to Instant Death so the Nihopalaoa + Phoenix Down will not work. So ensure that you and the mark do not get too close to the Elemental as it may become hostile toward your party and it will Silence you if you cast any spells.

Another way to defeat it is to have cast Reflect or Reflectga and then cast repeatedly Fira or Firaga on your characters. For each spell cast, the White Mousse will take three spells. If all of your characters cast Fira or Firaga, it will strike nine times. Repeat and the White Mousse will fall soon.
