Half-man, half-rat. Their sharp teeth bite hard.
Final Fantasy VI PlayStation Bestiary entry

The Wererat is an enemy in Final Fantasy VI.

Stats Edit

Battle Edit

They usually attack in groups and are encountered early in the game. Due to attacking in numbers, players may be tempted to use Bio Blast on them, however it will be ineffective as Wererats absorb Poison. The best strategy is to group-cast Terra's Fire spell against them, which will hit their weakness to Fire and likely kill them in a single turn. Having the same sprite as the Wild Rat, it also has the same palette color.

Etymology Edit

A wererat is a therianthropic creature in the shape of a rat. The term is a neologism coined in analogy to werewolf, used in the fantasy or horror genre since the 1970s. The concept has since become common in role playing games and fantasy fiction inspired by them. Were-rats are commonly portrayed as sewer-dwelling scavengers and opportunistic thieves.
