The Warmech, also known as Death Machine, is an infamous foe from the original Final Fantasy. Located in the Flying Fortress on the bridge leading to Tiamat, it has a 1 in 64 chance of appearing each time the Warriors of Light enter a battle on the bridge. It is extremely powerful, rivaling Chaos himself, and has powerful spells like Nuclear that can quickly devastate the party. Although in the Dawn of Souls remake Warmech is no longer the most powerful enemy in the game, he is still a formidable foe, and not to be trifled with. It could be said that Warmech is the first Superboss in the series.
[edit] Strategy
If a player should happen to run across Warmech, they should start the battle by casting NulBlaze and Blink. Warmech often gets a preemptive strike before the player even gets a turn, which will make the battle even harder, especially if it kills any mages. Use Haste on the fighters (if the party's Black Mage/Red Mage lives long enough to do it), then start attacking. Save the party's White Mage for exclusive healing. If the party possesses Ribbons, they should lower the damage from Nuclear by a little bit at least. In the end, whether the player kills Warmech or not depends on what level the characters are at, and how lucky the player is. Most often Warmech battles quickly turn into pure desperation as the party dies one by one. If the party does manage to kill Warmech, they are rewarded with a great amount of gil and EXP. This fight is somewhat easier in the NES version due to it only having 1,000 HP as opposed to the PS and GBA versions having 2,000.
[edit] Trivia
Warmech appears in Final Fantasy Legend and Final Fantasy Legend II (otherwise known as SaGa and SaGa II in Japan) with the same design, though his name was localized as "Warmach" in the English versions.
