Story
Edit
Cloud first goes into Wall Market with Aeris while following Tifa. They soon find out that she is going to be one of the three girls Don Corneo wants to pick as a "bride". For Cloud to get in, he has to disguise himself as a woman since Don does not allow men in his place, save for his lackeys.

Added by TenzaZangetsuCloud and Aeris have to run various errands to obtain a dress and wig, plus other accessories for Cloud. With his disguise in place Cloud and Aeris get into Don's mansion where they find Tifa. Don takes his pick out of the three, but no matter who he picks he ends up being confronted by the trio in his bedroom. He reveals that Shinra is about to destroy Sector 7 by destroying the pillar that holds up the plate above it, then sends Cloud, Tifa and Aeris plummeting to the sewers below via a trap door installed in his bedroom. They are forced to fight the Don's 'pet,' Aps.
After Sector 7 is destroyed, its debris damages parts of Sector 6 and Wall Market. Cloud, Barret and Tifa go through Wall Market to find a way to the upper levels of Midgar, and the wreckage has opened a path which Cloud and the others use to make their way up to the plate by climbing up. Don Corneo has left Wall Market at this point, having gone into hiding by fear of retaliation from Shinra, having tipped AVALANCHE off on their plans. His fears were well-founded when the Turks were ordered to silence him.
Locations
Edit
The Market includes several different places which the player visits during their first trek through the area.

Added by JBed- Inn
Directly at the entrance to Wall Market is the inn, that costs 10 gil to stay in. It has a vending machine and if the player speaks to the Materia Shop owner, agreeing to fetch an item for him, and then sleeps in the inn, they can use the vending machine. The items in the vending machine cost either 200 gil, 100 gil or 50 gil.

Added by JBed- Store House
The shop that says "Item" out front holds nothing during the player's first visit to the Wall Market, but if the player returns on discs 2 or 3 and examine the shop, they will find Tifa's ultimate weapon. An additional scene can also be seen if the party consists of Cid and Tifa when this is done.
- Items: Premium Heart

Added by JBed- Diner
In the food joint the player can eat for 70 gil; the options are the Korean B.B.Q. Plate, Sushi Plate, or Today's Special. It doesn't matter which food the player orders and if they answer favorably when asked about the food, they will receive a Pharmacy Coupon, which can be traded at the pharmacy for a key item.
- Key Items: Pharmacy Coupon

Added by JBed- Pharmacy
The player can buy items at the pharmacy (see below for shop list). If the player has a coupon obtained from the diner, they can choose an item for exchange. This item can be given to a sick woman in the restaurant; Digestive is the best item for this.
- Key Items: Deodorant/Disinfectant/Digestive

Added by JBed- Clothes Boutique
At the clothing store the player can get a dress custom-made for Cloud, but they must first fetch the shop's owner from a restaurant. The quality of the dress depends on the description the player gives to the owner. The best dress is obtained by asking for something that "feels soft" and "shimmers".
- Key Items: Cotton Dress/Satin Dress/Silk Dress

Added by JBed- Materia Shop
The Materia Shop doesn't actually sell any Materia. The man running it wants to know what items are sold in the vending machine in the inn, and hires the player to go buy one. He gives a tiara as reward. The best tiara is obtained by bringing him the most expensive item from the vending machine at the inn.
- Key Items: Glass Tiara/Ruby Tiara/Diamond Tiara

Added by BlueHighwind- Honey Bee Inn
- Main article: Honey Bee Inn
The Honey Bee Inn is a members-only adult club. Cloud can receive a membership card from a man around the Wall Market after visiting Don Corneo's mansion, but having been denied entry. In Honey Bee Inn Cloud can walk around, peep into the keyholes of the occupied rooms, and visit two of the rooms himself. After staying in a room Cloud can visit the dressing room to get make-up applied on him from one of the girls.
- Key Items: Bikini Briefs/Sexy Lingerie

Added by JBed- Bar
The pharmacy item can be given to the sick woman in the bar to receive a bottle of perfume. The best perfume is received if the player offers her a Digestive. The man running the clothes' boutique is also initially found here.

The mat says "FIGHT", the front of ring "S.W.C" and "Square Wrestling Club", left of ring エネルギーV ([needs romaji]?, lit. "Energy V"), banners 燃えろ男よ!! ([needs romaji]?, lit. "Burn, Man, Burn!!"), 男乃中乃男!! ([needs romaji]?, lit. "The Man Inside the Man"), 肉質剛健 ([needs romaji]?, lit. "Muscular Vitality") and 好色美男 ([needs romaji]?, lit. "Sensual, Beautiful Man"). - Key Items: Wig/Dyed Wig/Blonde Wig

Added by Keltainentoukokuu- Don Corneo's Mansion
Don Corneo's Mansion at the north end of Wall Market is the headquarters for the crime lord Don Corneo and home to many scenes of debauchery and perversion. Rigged underneath Corneo's personal chambers lives the monster Aps. The player gains access by disguising Cloud as a woman, but after the first visit to Wall Market is over the mansion will be empty and the player can enter at will. On a subsequent visit players will find Kotch tied up in the basement.
- Items: Hyper (behind Don Corneo's bed), Phoenix Down (in Don's lackeys' room)

Added by Keltainentoukokuu- The Wall
The wall becomes the "Golden Wire of Hope" after Cloud and friends return to Wall Market after Cloud and Aeris's initial visit. The player can use the wire hanging down to climb to the top level of Midgar and use batteries to open up paths and to obtain items.
- Items: Ether (by placing a battery to a box in the upper levels)
Quests
Edit
Honey Bee Inn
Edit
- Main article: Honey Bee Inn
After talking to the man outside Don's place the player can talk to the man in the bottom right corner of Wall Market to get a membership card to the place. Inside, the player can view numerous humorous scenes and also get make-up for Cloud's disguise (see below). The place is notable for having hoards of dummied out content.
Cloud's disguise
Edit

Added by KeltainentoukokuuDuring the player's first trip to Wall Market, they must dress Cloud as a woman in order to get into Don Corneo's house. Depending on Cloud's attire, Don may choose either Cloud, Aeris, or Tifa for his bride for the night. Cloud will battle Corneo's lackeys if he is not chosen, but the storyline ultimately leads to the same conclusion no matter whom out of the party is chosen.
The outcome of the decision depends on Cloud's "attraction value"; there are three items the player can get for each piece of apparel, and each are graded. If Cloud obtains all of the highest grade items (a silk dress, a diamond tiara, a blonde wig, and sexy cologne) Corneo will always choose him. The quality of the make-up work Cloud can have done is random, and the Bikini Briefs and Lingerie key items do not affect the value at all. Tifa is Don's default choice.
Only the dress and the wig are necessary for a disguise, but will only lead to Tifa being chosen as Don's "bride". Getting more items means Aeris and Cloud also have a chance of being picked.

Added by Keltainentoukokuu- Dress:
To get a dress the player must visit the Clothes Boutique, where a woman will tell that the dressmaker is in the bar. After talking to him Aeris convinces the man to make a dress for Cloud. The description given to the dressmaker determines the type of dress Cloud will get; the best dress is obtained by asking for something soft and shimmery.
- Soft + Shimmers = Silk Dress
- Soft + Shiny = Satin Dress
- Clean = Cotton Dress

Added by TenzaZangetsu- Wig:
The player can get a wig from Beautiful Bro in the gym by taking part in a squatting minigame where the player must press
,
and
in succession. The key is not to tap the buttons too fast or too slow, and make sure to only tap the next button when Cloud has stopped moving or he'll scratch his head. The opponent usually does around 17 squats. Winning the minigame gives the best wig.
- Winning the squats game = Blonde Wig
- Tying = Dyed Wig
- Losing = Wig

Added by Keltainentoukokuu- Cologne:
In the bar there is a woman in the toilet who needs medicine. The player must eat in the diners and then answer with "It was alright" when asked how they liked it to get the key item Pharmacy Coupon. In the item shop the player can trade it for either Disinfectant, Deodorant, or Digestive. Depending on which item the payer takes and gives the woman in the bar, she'll give a different cologne in return. The best one is to give her Digestive.
- Digestive = Sexy Cologne
- Deodorant = Flower Cologne
- Disinfectant = Cologne

Added by Keltainentoukokuu- Tiara:
In the Materia Shop the owner is wants to know what the vending machine at the inn has for sale. After agreeing to help him the player must stay the night at the inn and Cloud will have the option to buy something from the vending machine. Afterward Cloud and Aeris should head back to the Materia Shop and show the Materia Shop owner the item. The most expensive item gives the best Tiara.
- 200 gil = Diamond Tiara
- 100 gil = Ruby Tiara
- 50 gil = Glass Tiara

Added by Keltainentoukokuu- Make-up:
Talking to the man on the lower right corner of Wall Market after being denied entry to Don's mansion the first time, nets the player the Member's Card for the Honey Bee Inn. Inside the Honey Bee Inn, the player can talk to the woman to choose a room. The &$#% Room (upper left) acquires the Lingerie, and the Group Room (lower left) gives Bikini Briefs.
These items do not affect Don's choice, but after visiting a room the player can head to the top room and have the woman in the far left put make-up on Cloud. The outcome of the make-up work is random and he player can determine how many "points" (see below) it is worth by the sound effect that plays when the girl does it. There is a 97/256 chance to get the worst make-up (+1, a chiming sound plays), 96/256 chance to get average make-up (+3, a healing sound plays) and 63/256 chance to get the best make-up (+5, a wind blowing sound plays).

Added by KeltainentoukokuuThe lowest grade item gives +1 attraction value, the middle grade item gives +3 and the best one gives +5. The underwear obtained from Honey Bee Inn doesn't give any points. If the player gains 11 points or less, Tifa is chosen. If the player has 12-18 points Aeris is chosen, and for 19 or more Cloud is chosen.
Tifa's ultimate weapon
Edit
In order to get back to Midgar in discs 2 and 3 the player must dig up the Key to Sector 5 from Bone Village. In the store that says Item the player can use the machine to receive the Premium Heart, Tifa's ultimate weapon. A scene will happen if Cid and Tifa are in the party.
Sneak Glove
Edit
In disc 2 or 3 the man who sold the batteries in the weapon shop will sell the Sneak Glove for 129,000 gil. It increases the player's stealing chances by a great margin.

Wall Market has several different musical themes. The main theme that plays in the main section of the town is "The Oppressed" (虐げられた民衆, Shiitagerareta Minshū?). "Honeybee Inn" (蜜蜂の館, Mitsubachi no Kan?) plays in Honey Bee Inn, while "Don of the Slums" (スラムのドン, Suramu no Don?) plays in Don Corneo's mansion. Finally, "Shinra's Full-Scale Assault" (神羅軍総攻撃, Shinra Gunsō Kōgeki?) plays during the climb up to Shinra Headquarters.

Etymology
Edit
The name Wall Market (ウォールマーケット?), is, in Japanese, a play on the word "Walmart" (ウォルマート, Worumāto?); only the end of the Japanese writing has been changed. Walmart is an American multinational retailer corporation that runs chains of large discount department stores and warehouse stores.
Trivia
Edit
- Elena of the Turks worked as a bartender in Wall Market in her high school years, as shown in Before Crisis -Final Fantasy VII-.
- Two Guns of the Turks used to work in Don Corneo's mafia with in the Wall Market, before eventually quitting and going under the employment of Shinra.
- The dungeon in Don Corneo's cellar was at some point during development intended as a location for a Turtle's Paradise flyer. The data for a flyer discovered there is marked flyer #2, but the text is the same as for the flyer #3, found in Gold Saucer.[1]

Added by Keltainentoukokuu- There are signs that indicate that the player would have been able to buy the batteries required for climbing to the plate separately, instead of getting all three at once, but this was changed for the final version of the game. When asking for the batteries the weapon shop seller's dialogue says "how about 100 gil each" but the player must always spend 300 gil and get all three. Unused text in the game data exists for a situation where Cloud would run out of batteries while climbing.
