Introduction[]

Hello, and welcome to Part 11 of MystRay's Final Fantasy XII Walkthrough. We finally have snow up here in Michigan, and I can finally go skiing again! Its been a long summer and I'm ready to feel the cool wind in my hair. In this part, we do some grinding, and get betrayed. Ooooooohhhhhh.

Bone Levelling[]

Skull Defender FFXII

One of the enemies that will be forever burned in our minds.

We are finally able to do a bit of level grinding! Everybody's favorite thing to do! Currently, you should be around level 10-12. In the Lhusu Mines, in one section of the Shunia Twinspan, there is a plethora of deadly carnage. Namely Skeletons and Skull Defenders. A great way to level right now, is to go through this area, killing every one of the enemies. After doing so, retreat back to the Oltam Span while retreating, and zone back to the Shunia Twinspan to do it again. You will be able to gain levels rather quickly here. Another bonus is that they drop Loot that can be sold for a lot of Gil so that you will also gain a lot of money, especially if you get a good chain. Do this several times, and go back to the Lhusu Square, and do it again. You should level up to about a level 15 or so with all four characters before you proceed with the story. Don't spend LP until later when I do the License section. Before doing this, you should put the following Gambit on Fran and Balthier and get Balthier Green Magick 1 when he has enough LP; <Ally:any - Protect>. Also, put the Cure Gambit on everybody else but change it to 50% on all and get Basch White Magick 1. Be prepared, since you will be pretty strapped for MP most of the time. If you need to, you can buy more Phoenix Downs, and Potions. Somewhere among this chaos, I got Fran's sprite in the Sky Pirate's Den. You unlock it by casting Magicks over 200 times, earning you the title of Spellsinger. If the Skeletons and Skull Defenders are proving to be too diffucult with your limited supply of MP, it will work just as well killing other enemies. You'll won't get as much Gil, but you'll still gain levels rather quickly. Once you get to level 15, its time for Licenses!

A Spaceship![]

File:Ondore.jpg

A "puppet" of the Empire. A model citizen.

After talking to the soldier, and accepting to see the Marquis, you will be thrust into a cutscene. We are in the palace of Bhujerba, or Halim's resisdence. Basch sort of thanks Ondore for saving his life, and we start to talk about Amalia. The mysterious girl of the sewers. Basch takes the initiative and asks Ondore for help in rescuing her. Ondore tries to be an adult and starts talking about his reputation and job, but Vaan has to interrupt and asks to see Larsa. Apparently, Larsa has already left with Penelo. Penelo is finally free! We are given an FMV of the Imperial fleet approaching towards the palace. We are back in the palace, and Vaan is throwing a hissy fit. Ondore basically tells us that he is turning us in. Nice going buddy. You've given up your only chance at peace. Basch draws his sword, but the guard is already rushing in. You should "always hate" Ondore now. Just so you know. We are arrested and taken to Judge Ghis. Dundundun.

We are now back in Rabanastre. Judge Gabranth is talking to Vayne. Gabranth is giving a report on the Rabanastran insurgence. Apparently, the Marquis is funding the rebellion in Bhujerba. Ondore has now written a letter to Vayne telling him of our predicament. Gabranth now thinks that he is going to kill Basch, but Vayne tells him to basically babysit his brother. Vayne says that he is expecting Doctor...Cid! We have our Cid of the game now ladies and gentleman. This time he's better than ever! An evil and crazy scientist! As Gabranth walks out, we see Dr. Cid in the flesh (sort of). He's babbling on to thin air, as he walks in, mentioning something about "Nabudis taught us much". He then says his most famous line. "The reins of history back in the hands of man". Gabranth looks back at Cid like "this guy's crazy", then walks off. Cid comes in, and they talk about the Imperial Senate as the screen fades.

We are then treated to another FMV of our party in chains, being led to a giant airship. The Leviathan!

We are announced on the bridge. A girl turns around and *gasp* its Amalia! She looks mad, and she's staring directly at Basch. She walks forward and slaps him. Apparently he did something. She wishes he was dead. Ghis walks forward and gives us the biggest secret so far. Amalia is not real. We have been talking to the dead, Princess Ashalia B'Nargin Dalmasca. Forget what I said in Part 1. Since she bears no proof of her lineage, she is regarded as being a regular member of the resistance. There is talk of Ashe playing puppet to Vayne, and she snaps at Ghis. Basch says that he knows where her birthright is. They get into a heated argument, and Ashe tells Vaan to not interrupt them. The fight mysteriously ends as Vaan was able to mysteriously get the rock in his hands when his hands are in cinderblocks. The rock is glowing, and it turns out to be the Dusk Shard. Ashe's birthright. Vaan decides to give it to Ghis, and he walks away, telling us that we will be arrested, with Ashe quartered seperately. Basch, Balthier, and Fran walk away calmly, while an Imperial pulls Vaan's hair and basically drags him away. We get another cutscene while we are being walked to our cell. Balthier and Basch start talking and with some fancy maneuvering, all the guards get knocked out, except one. Its........Vossler! It turns out that the only reason that the Marquis turned us in, was so that we could meet up with Vossler, and rescue the princess. Vossler then joins as a guest. We also automatically get a map of the Leviathan.

Finall, we get some gameplay! Go over and save. This is the Port Launch. This is the beginning and the end of a major fetch quest, which is the entire purpose of this place. After you save, go out into the next area.

This is the Port Section. Vossler will tell us about the lasers, but the thing is, that if you're good at fighting, it is actually better to do that, so that you will get more EXP, and LP. As always, fight everything you come across. I found a chest when I walked down the far right side of the area, containing a Phoenix Down. at the very bottom, I found a chest containing 141 Gil. After that, in the passage to next area, I found a chest with a Hi-Potion. After that, proceed into the next area.

This is the Large Freight Stores. You need to go around to the same area, but downstairs. You will be bombarded here, but it souldn't pose as a problem. The chests are pretty obvious here, so just go into the next area.

In this area, the Airship Berth Access, you need to go around to the other side of the circle, to get into the next room. There shouldn't be any chests, but pick them up if you find them. Before entering the room, make sure everybody has Protect on. If you need to, you can use Charge to restore MP, which is highly reccomended.

When you enter the next area, you'll be thrust into a battle. You're fighting against 2 Judges, and 4 Imperials. The Judges are pretty tough, but puny once you get rid of the others. When you kill them, you'll have access to the cells. Go forward, and enter Brig No. 1.

Go into the first cell on your right, and you'll find a Save Crystal, and an urn. Open the urn, and you'll get a Systems Access Key. Save, and then go to the other cell on your right. You'll get another cutscene of us rescuing the princess. Its obvious why Ashe would be mad at Basch now. Vaan goes off, and Balthier and Fran start acting up to go as well. After theat, we get the 5th permanent character. Ashe. I guess that its time for my last character box.

Party Member: Ashe
Ashe-concept

Age: 19
Race: Hume
Traditional Job Class: Paladin
Quickenings: Northswain's Glow, Heaven's Wrath, Maelstrom's Bolt

"You know nothing of my father!"

Ashe is your classic princess of the game. She follows in Garnet's fottsteps as a strong and brave princess, with no fear (sort of). She comes from a very regal family, and has dealt with far more trauma, than many people see in their whole lives. She was happily married, but that was taken from her. She had a loving father, but that was stripped away by a horrendous scandal. It even went so far as to her having to fake taking her own life. We've got a suicidal princess on our side! Even through all of these plights, she remains strong and independent. She first meets us as the mysterious "Amalia", but we later find out that this was only an alibi. She is the leader of the resistance forces that are trying to free Dalmasca from the clutches of the Archadian Empire. Even with all of her pros, she has one weakness. Her wardrobe. She is wearing a weird white jacket thing, and one of the shortest skirts that I've ever seen on somebody. Its hideous. There are few people in Final Fantasy that I do enjoy what they wear though.

Let's talk stats. Ashe's HP growth is low, but her MP is potentially the highest. She's tied with Penelo as having the highest magic. Everything else is average. She is ultimately the best ranged character, so we will be switching her to what Balthier currently is. (Thank God this is the last one of these)

Since we finally have Ashe, we need to do her Licenses.

Whew...

After doing that, its time to do some shopping! First of all, switch Balthier's weapon onto Ashe. Next, go to the lowest left hand cell. You'll find a fully stocked shop in there. Before we buy anything, get the Daggers 2 license for Balthier. Then, get an Assassin's Dagger for Balthier, then get a Shepherd's Bolero and a Calot Hat for Ashe. Then, get two things of Ringmail for Vaan and Balthier. Sell all of your excess stuff, then get Ashe's Gmabits with the Cure and Protect Gambits of earlier. Then, go and save.

The Great Escape[]

After you've done the above, go out, and the alarm will never turn off, so you will be bombarded constantly. All you need to do, is run all the way back to the Port Section. Be careful, since there will be a lot of enemies.

Once you get to the Port Section, you'll be relieved to know that you will not face anymore enemies. Run to the first big square, and you'll get a cutscene. We are finally reunited with Penelo! Penelo falls apart in Vaan's arms, and Larsa takes Vossler with him. Larsa is taking him so that they can get an airship to escape. Before he leaves, he gives Penelo his Nethicite. Then they leave, and we finally get our full party permanently. Now we've got more Licenses to do!

Licenses - Penelo
Penelo:

  • Charge - Tile beneath Libra
  • All three Gambit Sots around +50HP
  • Battle Lore - Tile beneath the bottom Gambit Slot
  • Both Gambit Slots on either side of Battle Lore
  • Potion Lore 1 - Tile bottom left of Steal
  • Headsman - Tile to the leftof the bottom left Gambit Slot
  • Remedy Lore 1 - Tile beneath Battle Lore
  • Rods 1 - Tile to the left of Staves 1
  • Staves 2 - Tile under Rods 1
  • Rods 2 - Tile to left of Rods 1
  • Staves 3 - Tile to the left of Staves 2
  • Maces 4 - Tile to the left of Staves 3
  • Rods 3 - Tile beneath Maces 4
  • Maces 5 - Tile to the left of Rods 3
  • Rod of Faith - Tile to the left of Maces 5
  • Mystic Armor 2 - Tile to the right of Mystic Armor 1
  • Mystic Armor 3 - Tile above Mystic Armor 2

After you do that, run all over the area while regaining your MP. When you've regained all of your MP, go into the Port Launch. You should probably turn off all of your Gambits so you won't be wasting your MP while regaining it. Turn them back on before going into the Port Launch though.

Once you enter the Port Launch, you will be treated to a cutscene. As we run into the room, we see Judge Ghis with his weapons drawn. Uh-oh. He says some stuff, and his cronies run in. He is basically saying that since they now have the Dawn Shard, they're going to kill her. He says this as he's foriming a giant fireball in his hand. It goes to the ceiling and almost resembles Beta from FFVII. As the big finale is approaching, it disintegrates and flows into the Nethicite. Ashe rushes forward, and Ghis starts insulting her father. She delivers her awesome line, and the battle begins...

Boss: Judge Ghis
Ffxii-ghis
Level: 14
Elemental Affinities
HP: 4120 XiiFire -Regular XiiIce -Regular
MP: 330 XiiEnergy - Regular XiiWater - Regular
Steal: Potion, Dark Mote, Jackboots XiiAir - Regular XiiEarth - Regular
Diffuculty: Easy XiiHoly - Regular XiiDark - Regular

All in all, this is a very easy battle. He starts with some soldiers behind you. All you need to do is unleash a Quickening chain right at the start, and you won't lose any HP. The Quickening process is complicated, so if you don't know how to use them, consult another guide, since I will not go through it here. If you get a Level 1 3x Chain, and the Inferno Concurrence, it will almost definitely kill him.

After you finish him off, he'll drop his weapons, and somehow his helmet, and start holding his face. Cossler will run in, and tell us that he has secured an Atomos. A kind of airship. Bathier's not to thrilled about it, and Vaan asks if he can drive it. Fran delivers one of the best lines in the game, and we convert to an FMV. We go slowly, and then we make our escape.

We open up back in the Bhujerban Aerodrome. Penelo gives Balthier his handkerchief back, and Balthier accepts it graciously. Vossler, Basch, and Ashe are over in their own little group, discussing political issues. Our next step is to meet with the Marquis again. Vossler then leaves, and Basch is now Ashe's guardian. Go and save at the Gate Crystal, and I'll see you next time on my Final Fantasy XII Walkthrough.
