Aloha, part 16 of Paramina's Final Fantasy X International Walkthrough... here.

Macalania Woods[]

Macalania-Forest

I've got nothing.

Mission: Follow Seymour to Macalania.

We open in Macalania Woods: South. Head forward to trigger a conversation with Auron concerning - surprise, surprise - Yuna's marriage. Once we've established our team believe Yuna has a little something hidden up her kimono sleeve, head forward again to meet up with the rest of the team (actually die, Rikku). BariTidus chips in, reminding us he and Yuna have yet to get frisky, before we regain control. Save Up, then re-equip your team: Tidus should be wielding the Avenger again, and Yellow equipment should be swapped back in for less element-specific armory.

A quick little interruption to talk about the enemies here - for some reason, there's a definite difficulty spike coming into Macalania. Thus, if you've been bringing shame onto yourself and your family by using Flee all the time, you're going to have a tough passage. If you've been playing the game properly, you may still have a little trouble here and there. When it comes to Chimeras, use Lancet to acquire Aqua Breath on your first encounter, then open with a Silence Attack, followed by a Power Break. Have Yuna cast NulTide and NulBlaze and Haste Tidus to deal the damage, and you should live to tell the tale.

Macalania Woods Spring

Nada.

Oh God, no red arrow! How stressful for you. Yet how lucky you are to have me - take the left path up the incline, and follow the winding path. Around your first main bend is a Treasure Chest with a Sleepy Cait Sith. Further along the path you'll come across a very obvious Treasure Chest with 2000 gil, right at the junction. You'd have to be literally blind to miss it. Exit.

Macalania Woods: Central is a pretty easy span - you'll find a Treasure Chest with Pheonix Down x3 on your first loop, it's just behind a giant trunk, so keep an eye out for it. At the bottom of the loop you'll bump into our favourite Cross-Eyed fellow Guardian, who has lost Dona. "Damn it all." Let's hope she's fallen down a ditch, been shot, and then eaten. Then regurgitated and shot again. Fingers-crossed.

Keep following the path and you'll come across a harped eagle with a penchant for feathered caps and speaking in verse. The Butterfly Hunt somehow has its own wiki article - it's a stupid mini game you often accidentally stumble into, so give it a go if you so wish. If not, exit East to the Macalania Woods: North. The only thing of interest here is a Treasure Chest with a Remedy inside, but it's well-hidden (behind a tree on your next loop), so good luck finding it, I know I've missed it a couple of times.

Now we can afford a rest in Macalania Woods: Lake Road. There's a Save Sphere, so do the usual before talking to O'aka. Enter his weapons menu but do not buy anything, leave straight away, then tell him his prices are "too expensive" for an immediate price cut. Shop away, mes amies. The South-East exit of this area doesn't actually lead anywhere, but walk along it and spam X-button to find the Al Bhed Primer Vol. XV. With this done, head towards the junction, for Auron to interrupt our usual broadcasting because he has something to show us. He'll hack a pathway through for us - follow him into a clearing.

Boss Battle: Spherimorph
Spherimorph

HP: 12,000
AP: 3,240
Steal: Ether, Turbo Ether
Difficulty: Easy

This is deceptively easy, trust me. Your team should be Tidus, Lulu and Auron, occasionally switching in Yuna with Auron to mop up with Cure and what have you. The premise of this battle is that Spherimorph has an elemental weakness that is the opposite of whatever spell it just cast offensively. So if Spherimorph casts a Thunder at Tidus, you blast him with a Watera. Yeah? As soon as you work out Spherimorph's weakness, it'll trigger Elemental Shift, which changes its weakness - you just have to figure it out again by whacking it and seeing what spell it counters with. Easy.

So, have Tidus open with a tester hit, then Lulu should follow up with whatever Elemental spell is suitable. Have Auron use Power Break (which takes the edge of Spherimorph's worst move, Press) and Magic Break before settling for normal attacks. On Tidus' second turn, Haste Lulu, which should allow her to have a turn after almost every turn Tidus or Auron does, speeding up the process. Tidus and Auron should be your elemental testers, for the record.

Jecht's Sphere is left behind, as well as a Lvl 2 Key Sphere and a Moomba Duo. The team sit back and watch the sphere, which is like Jecht filming his pilgrimmage on his phone or something. He asks where all the crying women are. I adore him. The scene changes and Jecht himself sits in front of the camera, shirtless and bandanna'ed. He's so masculine he can't even say "I believe in you. Be good" without sounding threatening. Hero.

For our viewing pleasure, we obtain Auron's second overdrive, Shooting Star. Return to the Lake Road and double back to the Save Sphere before exiting North-West to our next area.

Lake Macalania[]

O'aka XIII's Shop
Item Cost
Sonic Steel 13,838 gil
Halberd 2,925 gil
Force Knuckles 1,463 gil
Serum Ring 3,263 gil
Echo Bangle 3,488 gil
Echo Armlet 1,238 gil
Soft Bracer 2,813 gil
Soldiers Targe 2,588 gil

We appear just outside the Travel Agency, which is convenient for us. O'aka's hanging around, as per usual. I'll list up what he has to sell, though I wouldn't really recommend upgrading everything, I never have at this stage. The Al Bhed Primer XVI is on the ground to the left of O'aka, so pick it up.

Clasko is outside the Agency, too, and appears to be in the midst of an identity crisis. We also learn he's apparently the Dr. Dolittle of Chocobos, so tell him you see him as a Chocobo Breeder over a Chocobo Knight. Telling him this will eventually force him to move out of the way so we can get to that Treasure Chest, but later, not just yet...

Head inside the Agency and Save Up. Speak to Maechen and the like if you so wish, before departing swiftly. Try to exit West and Trommel will appear in his best sycophantic, strange creeper kind of way. Yuna surrenders herself to inevitable molestation and leaves with Trommel. Tidus reminds her to whistle if she needs help and the two have a little moment. Aw. Too cute.

Mon Dieu, wtf, Rikku? Why are your crazy friends interrupting the moment by randomly attacking us?! Better yet, it turns out it's Rikku's insanely psychotic brother who's willing to blow his sister into oblivion in order to, what, have Yuna or something? He's also put up an anti-magic barrier, so we can't use magic or Aeons. Ass-hat.

Boss Battle: Crawler
Crawler-enemy-ffx

HP: 16,000
AP: 4400
Steal: Lunar Curtain
Difficulty: Easy

I originally had this tagged as 'Medium' from memory, until I actually fought it and realised how incredibly easy it is, granted you know what you're doing. There are quite a few ways to fight this, so I'll list them all so you can take your pick. However, all the strategies start by getting rid of the Negator and deactivating the anti-magic field. The only way you can actually do this is by using Wakka's Attack because it's ranged. So focus on taking out the Negator and keeping everyone healthy with Potions and what have you. Once the Negator is gone, you have a choice to make...

Method One: Summon Ixion
I had Yuna at Overdrive, so I was able to use a Grand Summon. One Thor's Hammer did 9999 damage. As Ixion was still on field, he took the brunt of Mana Beam, which coincidentally recharged another Thor's Hammer, which ultimately lead to an Overkill. I'd recommend this method - regardless of whether you can do two Thor's Hammers or not - for the simple fact that an Aeon is taking the massive damage from Mana Beam instead of your party.

Method Two: Bring in Lulu
You can either start with this or choose this option if Method One fell through. Bring out Lulu, and have Tidus cast Haste on her, then Slow on the Crawler. Spam Thundara like there's no tomorrow. At over 1000 damage per spell, you'll find the Crawler's HP whittling down in no time. When the Crawler is counting down to Mana Beam, summon an Aeon - any Aeon - just before it uses it and select the Shield command. They can withstand it. Your team probably couldn't. Rinse and repeat when the Negator returns.

Method Three: Stick with the Physicals
Some people use this, I never have, but it looks feasible. Buff up your three physical fighters (which should be Tidus, Auron and ugh, Wakka) and equip weaponry with Lightning affinities. If you have Armor Break, open with this, then use Power Break. Use things like Cheer, which you probably haven't used back since Besaid, but whatever, they kind of work here. Just trade blows and keep an eye on health. Swiftly bring Lulu in to use Reflex, which helps increase the odds in your favour for Gatling Gun (bring her in instead of Tidus for this move - Wakka and Auron need the increase in Evasion way more than Tidus does).

Whichever method you chose should ultimately lead to the same outcome: down go the Al Bhed. Despite her yelling fervently in Snaketongue, Wakka still doesn't get that Rikku is an Al Bhed until she finally tells him. Racist Mode: Activate. I usually detest Rikku, but she totally verbally owns the tangerine clown like the overgrown baby, propagandist Orange Moron that he is. After this little dramatic interlude, Rikku fixes the snow sleds and we can have a nice relaxing cruise to the temple.

I had Lulu join me on my romantic ski ride (not intentional, trust me). For once, she isn't mega-biatch. For once. In fact, she's almost - almost - endearing. Tidus asks after the whole Jecht/Sin thing but is too evasive about it for Lulu to grasp his ramblings. There's a chance you had a scene with either Auron or Rikku depending on Affection Levels, so enjoy.
