This guy is lazy. I'm not.

Wakey wakey! Wow. Every time I say that I think of Wake Forest. Why is that? You decide! Anyway, now it's time for one of my favorite parts of the game. Well, not really. It's pretty hard. But I'm rushing this because I want to let BlueHighwind know that I'm not lazy.

[edit] YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!!

I still hate him. Worst villain idea ever. I don't care if he looks like he goes with the title of this section. He still sucks balls.

So you'll meet Luzzu and Gatta, the Crusaders here again. They'll tell you again about Operation Mi'ihen again. Now, you need to talk to the guys at the barrier. They'll tell you you can't pass. He'll also tell you the Crusaders are using Sinspawn to lure Sin into a trap and the Al Bhed will destroy it with their machina. Sounds like a plan to me. But along comes that ugly dude in a dress Seymour to help you pass. Apparently Yuna's connections are worthwhile after all. Wakka is whining that Seymour, a maester of Yevon, is supporting the Crusaders and the Al Bheds. Seymour then wants Yuna to start speaking to him...informally? This sounds weird. Before going on, a dude will give you the opportunity to donate either 100, 1,000, or 10,000 Gil to the cause. 100 Gil gets you a Scout, which you should have plenty of, 1,000 Gil gets you an Ice Lance for Kimahri (if you don't know what this does, please ask your two year old brother/sister/dog/cat/toaster oven. Chances are she/he/it will know), and 10,000 Gil gets you a Moon Ring for Yuna. This has some random SOS ability, which casts a positive buff on Yuna when she enters Near Fatal status. Whichever one you want is up to you.

Anyway, when you're ready, it's time to enter the next area!

[edit] It's-a-me, Tidus!

Thank you Yuna! But our Final Aeon is in another temple.

We're in Mushroom Rock now, which in my mind should be in the Mushroom Kingdom. But we're not. We're in boring old dystopian Spira. Where the people are drones and nothing is interesting. This first area has some enemies you already saw, but in new formations. There are Ipirias, Vouivres, Thunder Flans, Dual Horns, and Bombs. O'aka (I don't know whether Square got this name from Oaxaca or Osaka. I hope it's the former, since Mexico and Spanish are far better things than Japan and the Japanese. Sorry, Otakus, I'm a fan of Latino culture) is here selling you more overpriced crap. There are also people here who will give you a Hi-Potion, 2 Phoenix Downs, a Remedy, an Ether, and if you backtrack, a Tough Bangle for Lulu, which increases her max HP by 20%. Anyway, take your first left here (CLAZ-KO is blocking your way forward anyway).

Save your game. I should tell you that there are some new enemies here. First up is the Raptor. Not really a raptor, just a tiny little lizard. It's just like the Ipiria, only with slightly higher stats. Same attacks, same weapon and armor drops. Nothing new here. Use Tidus and Kimahri physicals and ice elemental spells from Lulu. Next is the Lamashtu. It's a slightly stronger Vouivre that breathes Ice instead of Fire. Again, use Kimahri and Auron physicals and fire elemental spells from Lulu. But I suggest saving your MP for....

...the Red Element. This is a fire elemental enemy that has incredibly high physical defense. Have Lulu cast Blizzard or Blizzara (preferably the latter if you're going for the Overkill and leveling up, the former if you want to conserve her MP. I don't think I need to tell you what kind of weapons and armor it drops, although I should mention again sometimes its armor drops can give immunity.

The Gandarewa... I wonder if the females are called Geesarewa. Hell, I'm going to call the entire species Geesarewa. So this attacks with lightning based spells, and it's flying. Use Wakka's physical to snipe it out, especially if it comes with allies, which most enemies here do. It drops weapons that increase your Strength, Magic Power, or have Lightningstrike. Its armor has Lightning Ward (but no Lightningproof, sadly), and can increase your Magic Defense a bit. With all these enemy combos you're probably going to die quickly. And I haven't even mentioned your biggest problem here.

This is the Funguar. It's not a mushroom, sadly. This guy has a TON of HP (540), and it casts Fire regularly (and it's stronger than the Red Element's version), and it counters anything with Pollen, which can put the ENTIRE PARTY to Sleep. Hopefully Wakka knows Silence Attack, which works about 25% of the time, and stops it from countering. If not, or if he's out of MP, you better PRAY you don't get the Pollen counter, because that means death at the hands of it and of everything else, since only physical attacks and time will wake you up. It drops weapons that randomly cause Sleep and armor that provides Sleep protection (but not immunity). You might want to equip these over elemental protection in this area since the Funguars are probably the most dangerous things (Love how FFX lets you change your weapon AND armor mid battle! The older games didn't let you change your armor (although they did let you change a shield)).

There's still one more enemy, which usually attacks solo. This is the Garuda. It has a ton of HP and takes a long time to bring down (it has 4,000 HP!!!). It has NO weaknesses, so you'll have to tough it out. Dark Attack works to its full potential (33%), so you may want to try that, or you may want to summon Valefor or Ifrit, particularly if you want the Overkill. It drops weapons with Strength and Magic Power boosts, and some weapons that randomly cast Blind. It also drops armor with Blind protection, but not immunity.

Okay, you can tell by the music that something big is coming up. The path is pretty straight forward. You'll just have to go around a lot of switchbacks. The people in this area will give you ten (yes, 10!!!!) Potions, a Hi-Potion, and a Remedy. There's a chest here with 1,000 Gil as well. Lucil and Elma are here as well. Just keep going. You'll have to use elevators to reach the higher levels. In the next area, you'll get an X-Potion and 400 Gil. You'll also find a nice Serene Armlet for Kimahri. This provides Berserk protection. Also, notice the spiral type thing on the map? The Al Bhed Primer X, which translates J for you, is here as well, so make sure you get this. Also, try to get Valefor and Ifrit's Overdrives up because a boss is coming up.

You got beaten up by a girl!!!

Now, go up the last elevator and save your game. The dude here has a Mega-Potion for you. You'll meet up with Luzzu and Gatta again. Luzzu is trying to tell Gatta to shut up and do his job (to guard the command center), but Gatta is whining like a baby. Well, Gatta, be happy that you'll get to live another day. Luzzu tells Wakka that he was the one who told his brother, Chappu, to enlist in the Crusaders. Wakka then kicks his ass. But Tidus, the wimp, holds back the much tougher Wakka, and I have no idea why this is. A whiny little girl holding back someone much bigger and tougher...I don't get it. Lulu says she beat him up too....looks like Luzzu wouldn't be able to stand up to Sin if he got beaten up by a girl...

Anyway, Wakka delivers one of my favorite lines at this point. I won't spoil it for you though... Save your game and go up the next elevator.

[edit] If you're fighting Sin THIS early...you KNOW this isn't the end.

The Al Bheds are up here, setting up cannons. Wakka kicks one of them. Lulu finally explains to Tidus why Wakka is such a damn racist. It's related to Chappu. Apparently Chappu rejected Tidus's Brotherhood sword for a gun and Sin killed him, so Wakka developed a hatred for the Al Bhed. Yuna interrupts and shows Wakka what for. Wow. A character I hate telling off a character I like. You don't see this everyday. I still think Yuna is a huge wuss. Maybe even a chicken-wuss...

If you have anything that protects against Slow or Poison, equip that now. If you have neither, equip something with lightning resistance or immunity.

Talk to Gatta and tell him whatever you want. I just choose to make him shut his big yapper and do his job. But that's probably because in high school I played three sports and was captain of my lacrosse team. Auron makes him shut up for good. Now THERE's a voice I can listen to. Inside, you'll meet Wen Kinoc, a really big fat maester who's an old compatriot of Auron's. They're ready to start, and they want to try to lure sin. But Auron says they won't have to because Tidus is around and Sin is really Jecht. Why couldn't they get HIM to be the lead instead of that wimpy Tidus? Tidus really doesn't live up to his father's name at ALL.

Now, before you start the fight, look around for two chests. One has a Mega-Potion and the other has a Serene Bracer for Auron. This provides Berserk resistance.

The fight starts when you talk to the guy and say you're ready. But you won't be fighting Sin, not now. You'll just be fighting a Sinspawn. This time it's Sinspawn Gui.

So, Sin got a centipede, huh?

This fight is similar to the fights against Baigan, the Magus Sisters, the CPU, Number 128, Inferno, and other fights from previous installments in the series. The guy has two arms it can revive. However, this guy also has a Head. The head, which only magic and Wakka's Blitzball can damage, is the most dangerous part. It's Venom attack can inflict both Poison AND Slow to a character. Hopefully you listened to me and brought protection. If you get hit, no biggie, just have Yuna cast Esuna to make your boo-boos go away. None of the parts have any status or elemental weakness you can hit, so you'll just have to use your best attacks. You also can't attack the body while its arms are alive, and its arms have insane defense. Start out with Wakka, Lulu, and Auron and have Wakka and Lulu take out the head and Auron deal with the arms. Once the head dies, it can't be revived, but the arms can. Once all the parts are dead, go for the main body. When it gets low on HP, have Yuna summon someone, Ifrit probably, and use his Overdrive to Overkill the bastard and rake in the AP and Level 1 Key Spheres.

CHAAAAAAARGE!!!!

Sin is here! The battle begins! An Al Bhed guy charges up a big energy cannon and fires on Sin. This causes Sinscales to fall off Sin. Lucil leads a charge to stop them. Meanwhile, Gui revives and attacks Yuna. Seymour jumps in. Fight time!

You'll have to fight Gui again, but this time your party consists of only Auron, Yuna, and Seymour (this is the ONLY fight where you get to use him, and he's powerful as hell). Everybody still has the same abilities, but less HP. Seymour knows powerful Black and White Magic, so use him to take down the head. Auron, again, should take down the arms, and Yuna should be on standby ready to heal. When the body gets low on HP, summon Valefor and Overkill him again for some more Level 1 Key Spheres.

Sin makes a force field to protect itself, and this fights against the cannon. The force field wins out, and the dude in the cannon probably dies. The battle is over, and later, there are dead bodies all over. Tidus, being the moron he is, swims out to sea for no reason. Yuna, meanwhile, begins to perform the Sending.

Tidus has a flashback showing him as a kid trying to stop Jecht from drinking, and Jecht gives us all the advice to which I live on to this day: "Why do today what you can put off for tomorrow?" Yep, that's us procrastinators. We always put stuff off. Like doing our homework. Or writing walkthroughs. In fact, why don't I procrastinate right now? See you all in part 9!
