Welcome to part 6! The part with the same number as my favorite game in the series! Too bad I already did that walkthrough. Oh well. More opportunity to make fun of talk about FFX.

[edit] "You can't do it, kid!"

Okay. This ship is just as crappy as the first ship. When the hell will the rest of Spira catch up to the Al Bhed? It's like the friggin' American Midwest out here! Or the RIAA! It sucks! Time to move on. Anyway, this ship is called the S.S. Winno. What a crappy name for a crappy boat.

Anyway, on the boat, apparently Yuna isn't allowed to see Tidus or even Wakka, Lulu and Kimahri. Why? Because Tidus and his pals are just cargo! Yuna gets to hang out with the Luca Goers, who are celebrities. That's rude. Separating Yuna from her companions. As much as Graav and company flirts with Yuna, Yuna doesn't buy it. She believes in Wakka and Tidus. Anyway, as Tidus, you get to listen to Wakka and Lulu talk about what to do with him. Wakka suggests ditching him in Luca, where you're headed next. And he's got a point. Who'd want to hang out with a whiner like Tidus anyway? But that would still be very rude for someone who's in a foreign land.

When you regain control of Tidus, head into the bridge and look for the Al Bhed Primer Volume V on the floor. Then, MAKE SURE YOU SAVE YOUR GAME IN THE DECK BELOW. If you want to win your Blitzball game in Luca, this next stunt is CRUCIAL to get right, and you only get one chance to do it right. So save your game. Now, go to the bow to find a Blitzball. Approach it, and Tidus will get a flashback of his father, Jecht, taunting him (maybe he's just drunk again). Jecht says that not even Tidus can use his super secret move, known as the "Almighty Jecht Shot Mark III," a shooting move in Blitzball. Now, you have to play a little minigame. You have to try and get Jecht's taunts out of Tidus's head so he can perform the Jecht Shot. The taunts will appear at corners and sides of the screen. Press the directional buttons to shurg off a taunt. If a taunt appears in the middle, press X to shrug it off. If you shrug off enough taunts (you need to shrug off 11 of them), you'll succeed in pulling off the Jecht Shot. If you fail, you won't pull it off. You only get one shot at doing it (bad pun intended), so if you fail, reset the game. If you succeed, move on. The Aurochs and Yuna will all be amazed. Yuna will know what the move is, though.

[edit] LLLUUUCCCCCCAAA!!!

No, this isn't Lucca. Lucca would've beaten Sin a long time ago with her brains and her powerful inventions.

Sorry, it's not the cool Lucca (the cool Lucca is the one from Chrono Trigger, the mad scientist girl with that diabolical laugh), but it's a city named after her. Welcome to Luca, the second biggest city in Spira and Blitzball capital of the world. You'll see a scene where all the teams arrive by boat. The Aurochs will, of course, be ridiculed, while the Goers will be cheered on. Tidus completely embarasses himself again by grabbing a bullhorn and start saying how the Aurochs are going to win this year. You'll also meet John Poser II and Lyle Orlando Al Michaels and John Madden Roberto Clemente and Jim Nantz, your commentators.

But wait! A huge, royal-looking ship is arriving. Yuna says that this is the ship of Yo Mika, the Mastah Maester of Yevon and rapper extrodinaire. He gon' break it down fo' yall! But first, another strange looking prettyboy man who's really ugly and is probably voiced by Wayne Knight (the guy who does Newman on Seinfeld) (he sounds like him). His name is Seymour Guado, and apparently he's the son of some bloke named Jyscal Guado. He says that he's going to serve the way Jyscal served. Sounds like a nice guy to me. But Tidus doesn't like him at all. Wakka makes him shut up.

So now, we go to the locker room. Wakka comes back and says the Aurochs will be playing the Al Bhed Psyches in the second round (they got a bye in round 1). If you want to, you can learn the Blitzball tutorial. And I suggest you do this so you can win your game.

But wait! Yuna arrives and tells you Auron is in some bar somewhere. Hmmm, is it THE Auron? The mondo ass kicker? The Kain Highwind of the 21st century? The badassiest dude in all of Spira AND Zanarkand? Only one way to find out. Lulu and Kimahri will accompany you. On the way out, you'll meet some Al Bhedians, and Tidus will start jumping up and down about Rikku and wondering what happened to her (I'm curious about that, too! Renmiri wrote a great story about what happened to Rikku).

Now, head into the opposite locker room hallway. You can't get into the locker room proper (it's the Goers' room, go figure), but there is an Al Bhed Primer Volume VI there. Pick it up. There's also a chest with 2 Hi Potions inside. Now, before heading south from the stadium entrance, take a look around the port. Start by going west. O'aka is here. There are also two chests to look for. One contains 600 Gil and the other contains a Tidal Spear, which as the name implies, makes his physical water-elemental. The next area has the S.S. Winno docked, and a chest with two Phoenix Downs. The next area has nothing of interest. The area after has a save sphere if you want to save your game. The area after that has a hidden passage under the crates to the two most important chests here: an HP Sphere and a Magic Sphere, both of which are the rare stat spheres. Save them for later. Head down the path to be back at the stadium entrance. Head south, and follow the path straight.

If you want to take a side trip north, you can do so and find the Sphere Theater. Here, you can watch all the movies and listen to all the songs any time you want. Sadly, not all of them are composed by the legendary Nobuo Uematsu, the soul of the Final Fantasy series. There is an Al Bhed Primer Vol. VII in the area outside, so be sure to look for it.

East of the long passageway, you'll find the market. The weapons here have abilities that increase Strength (for Tidus and Wakka), Magic (for the girls), and weapons that do jack shit (for Kimahri). All the armor has defense increasing abilities. Head to the cafe near the stairs, and you'll find Kimahri's old sparring buddies, Biran and Yenke. Apparently, Biran broke Kimahri's horn because he lost to Biran in a duel and whined about it. But Kimahri is still silent as hell. Meanwhile, Lulu comes in and says that Yuna was kidnapped by the Al Bhed! In order to free Yuna, the Aurochs have to blow the game. Looks like Tidus is missing out on Round 1 to save Yuna. Lulu and Kimahri will accompany you. If you have any weapons with Lightningstrike on them, equip them NOW. Also, armors with Blind protection on Tidus and Kimahri are useful, as are armors with Silence protection on Lulu. Save your game back at the stadium entrance.

Make your way back to the docks, and you'll have to fight through some Workers. These things remind me of some of the Imperial stuff from FFVI. Namely the Trapper, Drop, and Junk. These things are weak to lightning, so have Lulu cast Thunder spells and have Tidus and Kimahri attack physically, preferably with lightning-elemental weapons (if you don't have them, Workers occasionally drop them). Always try to go for the Overkill (these things drop a rare X-Potion, so getting two X-Potions is highly worthwile), but save your Overdrives for the boss (no Aeons here)), which is 600 HP.

During all this mandess, you'll see Wakka basically hold down the fort in the stadium. He managed to tie the Al Bhed Psyches, but he's getting tired.

Maybe if the Al Bhed wanted to win they'd use some up-to-date technology!

After three or four battles consisting of two or three Workers each, you'll come upon the boss here: an Oblitzerator. This guy counters all physicals with Blind Ball, which inflicts Blindness, and all spells with Mute Ball, which inflicts silence. So have the necessary protections. Both attacks also deal some minor damage. When it's his turn, he'll use Blitzball Rush, which is a doozy. It'll deal very minor damage to a party member-10 to 15 times! It's not lethal, but you may need to use Potions after this (no White Magic here, sorry).

But there's a better way to do all this. Have Tidus use his Trigger Command "Use Crane." It won't budge and Tidus will whine. After he uses "Use Crane" three times, he'll ask Lulu to cast a Thunder spell on it. Have Lulu do that, and have Tidus use the crane again. This'll take away 15/16 of his current HP, meaning he'll ALWAYS have less than 300 HP! Have Lulu use her Overdrive Thunder Fury at this point to make sure you get the Overkill. He'll die after one of these. He drops an Elixir, so if you Overkill him, he'll drop two!

Yuna will be rescued at this point, and the Aurochs will score a last minute goal to beat the Psyches 2-1. You'll see a cutscene where Yuna tells you she has an uncle named Cid (makes sense, the Cid in every game is a fatherly figure to young girls) who is Al Bhedian (makes sense also, the Cid in every game is very mechanically minded, and the Al Bheds are the only ones who seem to be mechanically minded). Yep, Yuna's half Al Bhed! You can tell because she has the same eye disorder Mila Kunis (from That '70s Show and Family Guy) has. Having green eyes in Spira mean you have some Al Bhed-ness in you. Of course, Lulu makes sure Tidus knows that Wakka never knows this. Yep, Wakka's a racist. A hardcore racist. He hates the entire Al Bhedian culture. And to think he doesn't even seem like the racist types (no Confederate flags in Spira...)

[edit] Are you ready for some Blitzball?

Damn! If only Blitzball were real!

A Monday Night Party!!!!!!

Now, you'll get ready to play the Luca Goers. Wakka will be sitting out, so you'll be playing with Tidus, Datto, Letty, Jassu, Botta, and Keepa. Tidus and Datto should play the forward spots, Jassu and Botta should be on defense, Letty should be the center, and it should be obvious what position Keepa plays. Brush up on your tutorials if you forgot them.

The next part will be a strategy to winning the first Blitzball game. It'll be difficult to win because your stats are far less than the Goers' stats.

First of all, a little about the Goers. Despite how much Bickson is loved by the fans, Abus is the Goers' biggest scoring threat, so just be aware of that. Put all the controls on Manual; you want to control how your players move. And keep defense in normal position. Hopefully you'll start with the ball. If you don't, PRAY that they don't score on their first posession (the team that starts with the ball is random).

This is a strategy I like to use during my first game, and all the time. Basically, you want their team to chase your people. When you see an opposing player approach you, back off a bit so you won't engage him, and pass the ball to another player who is open. This keeps them from being on defense. Just keep doing this. If Tidus or Datto (or Letty) has the ball near the Goers' goal DO NOT GO TO THE GOAL UNLESS YOU HAVE A FAST BREAK. You can't afford to take any risks. Eventually, if you keep passing, you'll get the fast break (a situation where there are no defenders between a player and the goal). If you get in this situation, swim HARD towards the goal. Defenders will start chasing you. Pause your movements when you see one approaching so you'll only have to engage one at a time. Tidus and Datto alone should be able to break one tackle. If you wait too long, you'll have to face two, three, or even four defenders. When you're next to the Goers' goal and you're all alone, rip one at the goal. Hopefully Raudy (the Goers' goalie) won't be able to stop it.

Always know what you're up against. Keep an eye on your stats, and those of your opponents. Here are the opposing stats:

  • EN-AT
  • PA-BL
  • SH-BL/CAT

So always know what you're doing. If you're lucky, you'll pull away at halftime with a one goal lead. If you get a goal lead at all during the first half, just pass the ball around. You don't need to score anymore. Not only will you keep the ball in your hands, your players will get more EXP and increase their levels which increase their stats.

At halftime, MAKE SURE TIDUS HAS THE JECHT SHOT EQUIPPED. This move is far superior to the Sphere Shot which he already has equipped (you couldn't use either in the first half). Also, have each player play the same positions you had them play in the first half, and mark any players you can learn techniques form. If you can't, have any extra player other than Letty Mark either Abus or Bickson.

Be in normal position when you have the ball. Try to get Tidus close to the goal with two defenders on him early on. If this happens, activate the Jecht Shot for an easy goal. ONLY USE THE JECHT SHOT IF TIDUS IS ENGAGING TWO DEFENDERS, AND MAKE SURE THIS HAPPENS WITHIN THE FIRST TWO MINUTES. After this point, play passive. If they get the ball, go into Mark Mode, especially if you see they have a fast break. If you get the ball, play by passing around unless you REALLY have an open shot and feel comfortable you can score... from right next to the goal.

After about 2:30 goes by in the half, Wakka will make an emergency sub for Tidus. He has the Venom Shot technique, so if you feel like you need an insurance goal, shoot with him from right next to the goal (it should go in). If you want to do this, pass the ball around so you can set up a fast break.

Winning this game gets you a Strength Sphere, one of those necessary spheres which creates nodes on the Sphere Grid for you. If you lose, you get nothing.

You'll get an opportunity to save your game, and for good reason. You now get to face Sahagin Chiefs which have invaded the pool, and lots of them. Your party consists of only Tidus and Wakka, but they should be easy to handle. There are no bosses in here, so don't be afraid to go all out.

When you're done, you'll see a familiar face come out: Auron! This badass will get to take on a Vouivre by himself! With Auron, this should be cheese to kill. After this, Tidus and Wakka somehow leave the pool and join Auron for a fight against a Garuda. Have Wakka use Dark Attack and have Auron use Power Break to weaken it significantly. Beyond that, just use physicals because that's all you have. After this, Seymour, from high up in the stands, will summon a powerful monster from the depts of the earth which will completely wipe out the remaining monsters.

After this event, Wakka will announce his retirement from Blitzball so he can accompany Yuna on her pilgrimage. Tidus and Auron will catch up on old times, and Tidus will whine hard to Auron. But Auron is ten times the man Tidus is, and he takes it like a man, and reveals that Sin is, in fact, Jecht, Tidus' father, which gets Tidus even more pissed. Auron thinks it's time for them to join Yuna on her pilgrimage. Yuna accepts both Auron and Tidus as guardians. Then you're going to see one of the game's most corny scenes. It sucks so much I don't even want to get into it. But after the scene, look around the area for a chest containing 1000 Gil. Next, head north up the stairs and you'll be in the next area: the Mi'ihen Highroad. No more towns for you in this game! The rest is all wilderness.
