I just love Mrs. McKilikatty's fresh baked cookies.

Do a little dance...[]

Kilika3

Yeah, it's no different from Besaid, is it?

So now you just witnessed the destruction of an entire town. What to do? Well, Yuna will step forward and offer to "Send" the victims of Sin's attack. While we watch Yuna do this "Sending" (which is really nothing more than a ritual conjuring dance from some tribal thing), Lulu will explain what's going on. Remember how in past games a good portion of the monsters are undead? Well, in this game, nearly all the monsters are undead! They're the embodiment of dead souls who are jealous of living creatures. So Summoners have to become makeshift Phantom Trains and take the dead to the "Other Side," in this case, somewhere called the Farplane. (Oooh, I can just laugh and try to see what happens if Yuna were to try and send Sabin, ooh, ho-ho-ho).

So you'll regain control of Tidus at the town's Inn. Save your game, and go find a little girl that needs saving. Take her to the bar and get an Ether. You'll also find the Al Bhed Primer IV' here. You can also go to the weapon shop if you like. All the weapons here have Sensor on them and all the armor has HP +5% on it. You'll find better stuff from the enemies anyway. There's also a broken down house west of the Inn which has a chest with three Potions inside, just in case you're running low (there aren't too many more battles where you'll have to rely on items until you get to a point where there's much better stuff available). Now, go see Wakka in the east side of town. Talk to him and he'll tell you he's one of Yuna's Guardians, and he has to go to the temple deep in the jungle. And he's taking the Aurochs with him to pray. Follow the west path and you'll come to said jungle.

Bungle in the Jungle[]

FFX Kimahri Art

In my day, we had silent protagonists, not silent supporting characters.

When you get here, Yuna will ask Tidus to be a Guardian. But Wakka says that Tidus sucks at fighting. Well, Wakka's right that Tidus sucks, but it's other things besides fighting he sucks at. Life, for example, and temper control. So, no fancy Guardian title for Tidus, but he still has to follow Wakka around... at least for now.

The first fight will always be against a Ragora. This is another tutorial battle where you learn how to use Kimahri's Lancet ability to learn Ronso Rages, his Overdrive. This skillset consists of traditional Blue Magic spells, but since Tetsuckya's doing this game, you're stuck using them as Overdrives. Anyway, Kimahri will learn Seed Cannon. This move isn't all that great when you use it, but it HURTS when the Ragoras use it. Lulu's Fire spells are better bets against these guys.

Killer Bees suck, too, because they can Poison you with their physicals (enemies can inflict statuses with their physicals in this game, which really sucks). Beyond that, they're flying, so Wakka and Lulu have to kill them. Dinonixes are really, really dangerous. They can Petrify characters with their physical, which in this game HURTS. And you have NO means of protecting against petrification at this point. The last enemy is the Yellow Element, which uses Thunder spells, and only Thunder spells. Lulu should cast Water to deal with them (don't know how water can stop lightning, it should be the other way around).

Try to get armors with Poison Ward on them from the Ragoras and Killer Bees for ALL your characters and equip them. These will provide some protection against Poison, but not immunity; the protection is random, and although random is unreliable, it's the best you got at this point in the game. Most of the enemies can drop elemental weapons, which are handy to have on hand (except for the girls; Square was really sexist in this game and didn't make a powerful physical girl. Although the only games they did this in were VI, VII, IX, and XII), but not to use as your main weapon. With Elemental weapons, you just have to know what you're up against, like in every game before this.

So, how to do this? First head right to find a chest with a pair of Mana Spheres. Probably the worst chest in the game; these things are so damn common when you fight enemies. Go back to the save point (and save, but that should be a no-brainer). From here, head to the left and turn north into the tiny path. This takes you over a fallen branch to a chest with a Scout inside. This is a weapon for Wakka that has Sensor on it. I don't reccomend using it, since both Yuna and Kimahri have it on their weapons, as does Valefor. Speaking of Valefor, charge up his Overdrive now so he has a full gauge, but don't use it yet. Now, head to the very center of this area and you'll find the Lord Ochu. This is technically an optional boss, but when you're playing with CSM there are NO optional ANYTHINGS. Fight time!

This guy is vulnerable to Fire, just like all plants, so Lulu should cast the obvious spell on it. Now, this thing attacks with the Water spell and with Poison Touch (sounds like an FFVI name to me...), and it should be obvious what this attack does. These attacks deal A LOT of damage. Thankfully, and hopefully, Yuna knows NulTide (you should have at least spent a little time levelling up, no?) So have her cast that, and only that until she runs out of MP (unless you get low on HP or get hit by Poison, in which case use Cure and Esuna). For Poison Touch, there's no way to avoid the damage unless your Evasion stat kicks in (something that'll probably only work with Lulu). The Poison Ward armors can hopefully prevent getting hit with the Poison status provided the protection kicks in.

When you see Lord Ochu is low on HP, summon Valefor and have him use his Overdrive for an Overkill! You WANT to Overkill ALL bosses. This one will normally drop an MP Sphere (which fills an empty node on the Sphere Grid with an MP+40 node), but an Overkill will make him drop two of them. This is what you want, because spheres that fill empty nodes don't come by that often.

You should know that Lord Ochu will fall asleep when he loses half his HP. When he's asleep, he'll get both the Sleep AND the Regen statuses. And if you wake him up, he'll use an Earthquake to damage the whole party. Try to avoid this.

So, you beat Lord Ochu. So, now you get to see a scene with Gatta where he acts all corny. And corniness isn't allowed here. The much more pleasant Luzzu will give you an Elixir for beating up the Lord Ochu. And save your game. Now, go all the way north on this path. You'll find it curves left and leads to a dead end with an item (as Brick Road Dungeon Man always says, there is an item at the dead end). In this case it's a Luck Sphere. Unlike other node-creating Spheres, this thing is completely worthless. Luck Nodes can only be activated by Fortune Spheres, and there are precious few of these (hell, there are more Luck Nodes than findable Fortune Spheres in the entire game! Well, you can win them from a really, REALLY tough enemy, but you can only beat him when things don't matter anymore and anyone can hit (or break) 9999 HP damage without breaking a sweat). Also, look through the jungle and find people. They'll give you some more items.

Before moving on, get Valefor's Overdrive gauge back up and make sure you have characters with Poison Ward armors.

When you're ready to leave the jungle, head east from the Lord Ochu area and at the end of the path head as far north as you can. The path'll curve and you'll see some stairs. Climb up them. You'll see a cutscene. Welcome to....

LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE!!!!!!!!![]

Sinspawn Geneaux-enemy-ffx

I guess this must be Sin's left testicle....

With your guide, Sinspawn Geneaux!

And here he is NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWW!

(Oh fuck, that means we have to fight this damn thing)

Well, this guy's stuck in his shell, which is unbreakable. So physical attacks are useless, except for Kimahri's. That means you have to go with Magic, right? WRONG! See those two tentacles sticking out of the ground behind you? Well this ain't no... garden variety sinspawn! These tentacles are on Runic standby, which means they absorb all Magic attacks in battle. Have your fighters (Tidus, Wakka, and Kimahri) take them down. They have powerful physical attacks and 450 HP each, so don't take them lightly. Also, Geneaux himself can use Sigh as his special, which deals 100 HP damage to the entire party. This isn't so bad if each of your characters hit an HP node (Tidus and Wakka should have by this point). Hopefully Tidus knows Haste as well. If he does, this is your biggest asset.

Dona FFX

If THIS is Tetsuckya's attempt at drawing a Viera, he's worse than I thought.

Once the tentacles are gone, have Lulu start casting Fire, which Geneaux is weak to. When you deal 500 HP of damage to him, he'll pop out of his shell and start using Venom, which is just like the spell of the same name from Final Fantasy IV and inflicts Poison on the entire party. You can (finally) start using physicals at this point. When you deal 2000 HP damage to him, summon Valefor and have him use his Overdrive so you can get the Overkill.

When you win, save your game, and get ready to meet your Blitzball archrivals, the Luca Goers! Led by captain and center Graav and powered by super stud forwards Abus and Bickson (the red head), they win the damned tourney every friggin' year. And of course, they make fun of the Aurochs (who's goal has always been "To do our best!" I'd like to hire Bo Schembechler to coach the Aurochs; he'd teach them how to play ball). But Tidus, like the showboat he is, threatens the Aurochs, and Wakka plays along.

Go into the temple here. Wakka will ask Tidus to join him in praying for victory. But we'll rig the tourney make sure the Aurochs win, so this is really unnecessary. But it looks like the Aurochs aren't the only ones being taunted. A Summoner named Dona arrives with her Guardian (more like stupid jock middle linebacker from an old fashioned American football team and/or boyfriend) Barthello. Donna taunts Yuna for all the Guardians she has, but Yuna stutters some defensive words (weak coming from Yuna's mouth. Where the hell did Square get their voice actors/voice direction anyway?)

So everyone heads to the Cloister of Trials, and Lulu basically snubs Tidus. And when Tidus gets onboard the elevator with everyone else, Kimahri pushes him away. Lulu snubs him again (only sworn Guardians can enter the cloister; Wakka snubbed Tidus earlier). Yuna tries to console him, but who is she to decide what to do? Tidus meanwhile gets very impatient (shoulda brought a copy of Whiners Monthly to read while he waits), and Donna and Barthello find him whining and throw him into the Trials.

So now you have to navigate the Trials. These things get harder as you get farther. First, grab the "Kilika Sphere" (the thing that looks like a fireball) and stick it in the hole next to the wooden door. This ignites a flame which burns down the door. Take the Sphere out and go through the door. Put it in the slot at the dead end in the north to make a Glyph appear. The Glyph will taunt the whiny Tidus. Take the sphere back out and put it in the hole in the left wall. Now, touch the Glyph to open the next door. There's also a Glyph Sphere here. Take that and put it on the right wall.

Now, go into the room with the large sea of fire. There's a floor switch which will move a pedistal to you. Put the Kilika Sphere from the right wall here into the pedistal and push it onto the floor switch. Take the Glyph Sphere and put it in the right slot in this room. Grab the Destruction Sphere here. Go down to the area where the fire was put out and you'll see a hidden slot. Put the Destruction Sphere in here and it'll blow up the wall giving you a Red Armlet for Kimahri which gives him Fire resistance (someone tell me if it gives Ice and Lighting resistance as well, because I can't remember if it does or not; apparently it does). Now, grab any Kilika Sphere and put it in the slot in the far north wall to burn the wood door. Take it out and go to where you see Wakka, Lulu, and Kimahri. They're pissed. It's taboo for non-Guardians to be here, and Yuna could be excommunicated. Big fucking deal. Like I always say, fuck religion.

So you'll finish here, and Yuna will now be able to summon Ifrit (go figure...). Now, you'll go back outside. Return to Kilika and get ready for your journey to Luca!
