All right, now that are levels are higher and we have more stuff, it's time to go back to the Monster Arena for some more killin'! Remember to save your game, refill all Overdrives, and equip all ultimate weapons before each fight!

Contents

[edit] The Magus Sisters

Before we begin, I should probably explain about how the Magus Sisters work. We're going to be using them a lot here, since they're very powerful. You can't control what the Magus Sisters actually do, but you can give them "sort of" instructions. Each sister has a unique set of abilities. If you remember the Final Fantasy IV version, you know Sandy casts Reflect on Cindy, and Mindy bounces a spell off of Cindy onto the enemy. Cindy could also revive her fallen allies. They basically do the same here, although it's a bit different: each sister has a special attack that deals massive damage. Cindy uses Camisade, which is the weakest one. Sandy uses Razzia, which ALWAYS hits for 99,999 HP of damage. And Mindy uses Passado, which is the most powerful attack in the game. It strikes 15 times for BIG damage, and this is what we'll be relying on. Everything is random, though. And do NOT use their Overdrive. Also, Cindy uses Auto Life and curative spells to heal you. The best commands to do are "Help each other!" for Cindy so that she can heal and "Fight!" and "Go! Go!" for the other two, because those have the highest chance of using Razzia and Passado. Sometimes you'll be stuck with "Do as you will..." but that's about the best you can do in those situations.

[edit] Remaining Area Conquests

There are two new area conquests we unlocked now: Bikanel and the Omega Ruins.

[edit] Bikanel Conquest

For catching 1 of every monster in Bikanel (yes, I made you catch 10, but you need 10 of them to unlock the more powerful stuff), you'll get 99 Shadow Gems, but you should have plenty of those. Your opponent is the Abyss Worm. It's basically just a Sand Worm with more HP that can use Earthquake, which is a Magic attack against everyone. Other than that, it's the same thing. It's common Steal is 4 Shadow Gems and its rare Steal is a Stamina Tablet. It only has 480,000 HP, and its attacks aren't that strong, so it should go down fast, especially if you utilize the Magus Sisters. If you win, you'll win a Stamina Tonic (2 for an Overkill), and its weapon drops increase your Strength by random amounts, and its armor drops increase your Defense by random amounts. This is definitely not an enemy you want to kill more than once.

[edit] Omega Ruins conquest

For catching 1 of every monster in the Omega Ruins (yes, I made you catch 10, but you need 10 of them to unlock the more powerful stuff), you'll get 60 Designer Wallets, and 30 of these items will add Gillionaire to a weapon. It's not necessary because Rikku's ultimate weapon has this ability. Anyway, your opponent is the Vorban. This is actually a tough enemy because it has 630,000 HP, high defenses, and is immune to stuff like Armor Break. It has three attacks: it's physical, which is ST, Body Slash, which is MT, and Mortar, which are MT, and it can counterattack with one of these. Your best bet is to summon the Magus Sisters and let them do the dirty work for you. Sandy's Razzia ignores defense, so that'll be a big help. Also, know that you can Steal 2 common Healing Springs and a rare Stamina Tablet. When it finally dies, you'll win a nice Friend Sphere (2 for an Overkill), and its weapon drops increase your Strength by random amounts, and its armor drops increase your Defense by random amounts. This is definitely not an enemy you want to kill more than once.

[edit] Species Conquests

Finally, it's time to fight the Species Conquest enemies! These go in a completely random order, but there's a specific order I want you to fight these guys in. The reason for this is because these things are MUCH tougher than the Area Conquests, and many of them drop Spheres that add extra nodes to the Sphere Grid. Also, at this point, I should mention that the guy who runs the Monster Arena has Clear Spheres for sale, which erases a node on the Sphere Grid. Now, why would you want to do that, you ask? This is so you can replace +1, +2, and +3 nodes with +4 nodes! I recommend you do this before randomly planting nodes around, just so you can see how many of each node you need before you get 255 of each stat. Also, by this point, enough of your characters should know Quick Hit. Hopefully Wakka and Rikku know it, because now since you're at a point when things don't matter anymore, it's these two who have the most useful Overdrives. If I'm not mistaken, you have a Special Sphere in your inventory. Use it to teach a character Quick Hit. Preferably not Auron, whose grid is adjacent to Tidus's, and he probably knows it already. Also, know how to hit 99,999 HP damage easily from this point on.

[edit] Floating Eyeball conquest

For catching 4 of every floating eyeball monster (yes, I made you catch 10, but you need 10 of them to unlock the more powerful stuff), you'll get 60 Stamina Tablets, and you should have some of those, but you'll probably want a lot more. Your enemy here is Turanga Leela. Actually, it's One-Eye, but that's what the orphans called Leela back at the Orphanarium, right? Anyway, you'll want to equip your status whore armor before going into battle here. This guy has some nasty status attacks. First is Blast Stare, which only affects one character but inflicts Curse on him or her. It's other attack is Shockwave, which inflicts Sleep, Blind, Silence, Slow, and Confuse on the WHOLE PARTY in addition to dealing 9,999+ damage. Blast Stare is physical, so that can knock off Confuse, but that's too risky to rely on, so equip your status whore armor. It's pretty weak and it only has 150,000 HP, so you probably shouldn't even need to summon the Magus Sisters if you just use Hastega followed by Quick Hit a few times. Be careful about getting ambushed though, because One-Eye ALWAYS opens with Shockwave. When you anticipate Shockwave coming, have Yuna summon a weaker Aeon so it can take the brunt of the attack. You can Steal 3 common Lunar Curtains and a rare Blessed Gem. If you insist on trying to Steal, use Rikku so she can always get the Blessed Gems. If it gets under 100,000 HP, and it should quickly, summon Anima and use Oblivion for a quick win. You WANT THE OVERKILL in this fight. The prize is a Magic Defense Sphere, and 2 of them for the Overkill! Their weapon drops have Triple AP and their armor drops increase your MP by varying amounts. You'll want to kill this thing a lot so you can get lots of Triple AP weapons and Magic Defense Spheres.

If you really want to level your characters up, go to the Omega Ruins and swap everyone's ultimate weapons out for the weapons with Triple AP (you may need to customize some other skills onto them) and watch the Sphere levels rise! If you REALLY want to see them rise, use your many Doors to Tomorrow to customize Overdrive -> AP to really rake in the Sphere levels. This is optional, and I didn't do it, but you might want to so I put it up there.

[edit] Small Bird conquest

For catching 4 of every small bird (yes, I made you catch 10, but you need 10 of them to unlock the more powerful stuff), you'll get 99 Mega-Phoenixes, and you should have some of those, but you'll probably want a lot more. Your enemy here is the Pteryx. This thing has VERY low HP (only 100,000), but has blinding Speed and Evade, and its Strength is high enough that it can break the damage limit. This guy is WAY too fast for you to even THINK about Stealing, but if you insist, it has 4 common Smoke Bombs and a rare Candle of Life. There are better ways to get both of these items and you don't want to risk powerful physicals. It doesn't have anything that's MT, so don't worry. It's Beak of Woe will Curse any survivors. For a quick win, summon the Magus Sisters and let them kill it in 2 attacks (maybe even 1 if you get Passado!). Oh, and be careful because this guy has Auto-Regen on. YOU WANT THE OVERKILL IN THIS FIGHT. For winning, you'll get an Evasion Sphere (2 for an Overkill), and its weapon drops increase your Strength by random amounts, and its armor drops increase your Defense by random amounts. You'll want to kill this thing a lot, since you want lots and lots of Evasion Spheres to increase your Evade stat. High Evade renders you almost immune to any physical attack!

I suggest you spend hours, even days, fighting Pteryxes until your Evade stat is up the wazoo. Why? Because of the next monster we're gonna fight.

[edit] Dog conquest

For catching 3 of every dog (yes, I made you catch 10, but you need 10 of them to unlock the more powerful stuff), you'll get 99 Chocobo Feathers, and you should have some of those, but you'll probably want a lot more. Your enemy here is Fenrir. Now, the dogs are the weakest enemy in the game, so you'd expect Fenrir to be weak, right? WRONG! Fenrir sucks! He's BLAZINGLY fast (and I mean he has 200 Speed), and he's got some very powerful and nasty attacks. His Fangs of Ruin might break the damage limit if you have low defense. He also has a Fangs of Chaos, which takes away 15/16 of your HP AND causes Confuse. His Fangs of Hell is an ID attack, and it even works on Aeons! And he has a lot of HP to boot (850,000 of it!)! Thankfully, none of his attacks are MT, but with such high speed they might as well be. This is why I had you get your Evade up, so you can handle Fenrir. Summon the Magus Sisters and use Passado, or else hope your Evade is high enough that you can avoid most of his nasty attacks. If you decide to fight without Aeons, use Hastega followed by Quick Hit every friggin' turn. And you BETTER be able to hit 99,999 HP damage, or at least close to that. Don't bother Stealing. He has the same stuff Cactuars have (2 common Chocobo Feathers and a rare Chocobo Wing. When he gets low on HP, summon Anima and use Oblivion to kill it for the Overkill (unless the Magus Sisters are somehow still alive). Anyway, YOU WANT THE OVERKILL IN THIS FIGHT. He drops an Agility Sphere, and 2 for an overkill! THIS is how you get your Speed up! His weapon drops inflict various statuses and his armor drops provide various status immunities. Fight this thing over and over again, and it'll get slightly easier each time because of all the Agility Spheres you'll get. Hopefully you can use this to get your Speed WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY up.

[edit] Ram conquest

For catching 5 of every bighorn ram (you know, the Dual Horn type enemies) (yes, I made you catch 10, but you need 10 of them to unlock the more powerful stuff), you'll get 99 Light Curtains, and you can never have enough of those. Make sure you remember the Grendels, too! I forgot them my first time. Anyway, your enemy here is the Juggernaut. This guy's on the slower side, but he has defense up the wazoo, and he has over a million HP (1,200,000 to be exact). And Armor Break isn't effective enough to rely on. If you want Auron's Banishing Blade will always give it Armor Break, so use that. Then, have Rikku Mix a Curtain and a Gambler's Spirit to get Hyper Mighty G, which gives all three party members Haste, Protect, Shell, Regen, and Life 3. Alternatively, you might want to mix a Healing Spring with a Curtain to get Ultra Nul-All, because Juggernaut uses Elemental Attacks. If you go this route, have someone else cast Hastega. Its physical WILL break the Damage Limit, and it has an ID attack in Crush Spike, and a fire elemental attack that hits everyone in Salvo. The good news is he has to charge up for this. If you want, you can come into this fight equipped with armors that provide fire immunity/absorption and ID immunity and that takes care of two of the attacks. Then, mix the Curtain and the Gambler's Spirit, use Banishing Blade, and begin Quick Hitting the damn thing until it dies. If you feel comfortable doing 15,000+ HP damage a hit, you should be able to Overkill it easily. Its Steals aren't worth it. The common Steal is 4 Lunar Curtains and the rare Steal is a Shining Gem, and there are better places to get these. YOU WANT THE OVERKILL IN THIS FIGHT. He drops a Strength Sphere, and 2 for an overkill! Its weapon drops increase your Strength by random amounts, and its armor drops increase your Defense by random amounts. You want to keep fighting this to get your Strength up.

[edit] Armadillo conquest

For catching 3 of every armadillo (yes, I made you catch 10, but you need 10 of them to unlock the more powerful stuff), you'll get 99 Gold Hourglasses, and you NEED these because they are so rare. Your enemy here is called the Tanket. Despite its name, its defense isn't as high as the Juggernaut's. Again, Auron's Banishing Blade should take care of it. Also, you IMMEDIATELY want to open with Hyper Mighty G, because this guy WILL break the damage limit with his physicals. He can also Berserk a character with his physicals. But he's also slow and all his attacks are ST, so he's not as bad as this all sounds. Hopefully your now skyrocketed Evade, Speed, and Strength will help a lot in this fight. Again, your attack plan should revolve around Quick Hit. If you really want to Steal, he has 4 common Light Curtains and 4 rare Lunar Curtains. This guy has a lot of HP though (900,000), so it may take awhile to bring down unless you really harvested those Strength Spheres from the Juggernaut. Its Overkill is only 10,000 HP, thankfully, so if you feel comfortable hitting this much with your physicals, you shouldn't need to summon (although the Magus Sisters always help). YOU WANT THE OVERKILL IN THIS FIGHT. He drops a Defense Sphere, and 2 for an overkill! Its weapon drops increase your Strength by random amounts, and its armor drops increase your Defense by random amounts. You want to keep fighting this to get your Defense up. If you can get it up to around 200 or so, you don't need to worry about this guy breaking the damage limit on you. You may notice it as you get tougher with your Defense.

[edit] Bug conquest

For catching 4 of every bug (yes, I made you catch 10, but you need 10 of them to unlock the more powerful stuff), you'll get 60 Mana Tonics, and you should have some of those, but you'll probably want a lot more. Your enemy this time is the Hornet. Hooooo boy. Another fast, flying enemy. And this one can inflict Instant Death with its regular physical. It also could inflict Sleep, Blind, and/or Silence. It can also use its Venomous Stab to Poison you, but this isn't ordinary Poison. It takes away 2/3 of your max HP every time, which is basically a slow, painful Instant Death. And its Bewitching Stab can Confuse you. It's not as strong as the other enemies in terms of raw damage, especially if you've been killing Tanket a lot, but its status attacks make up for it completely. And with 620,000 HP, it's not easy to bring down either. Don't bother Stealing. Its common Steal is 4 Poison Fangs and its rare Steal is 2 Purifying Salts. You can find these elsewhere. Thankfully all its attacks are ST, but unless you've been really killing Fenrir a lot you won't notice the fact that they are ST. Just summon the Magus Sisters and rely on Passado. YOU WANT THE OVERKILL IN THIS FIGHT. He drops an Accuracy Sphere, and 2 for an overkill! Its weapon drops increase your Strength by random amounts, and its armor drops increase your Defense by random amounts. Although Accuracy isn't as important as the other stats I mentioned, you want to get it up as high as you can so that everyone can hit everything and not be worried about a miss.

[edit] Gandarewa conquest

For catching 4 of every Gandarewa (yes, I made you catch 10, but you need 10 of them to unlock the more powerful stuff), you'll get 99 Mana Springs, and you should have plenty of those. Your enemy is the Vidatu, and it's an interesting one. It only has 95,000 HP, but it has sky high Defense AND Magic Defense, immunity to all four elements, and Auto-Regen. It only has two attacks: Osmose and Ultima, which can be devastating because it has 77 Magic Power and Ultima's Spell Power is sky high. Don't bother Stealing. You'll be wasting your turns because all it has is 4 common Lightning Gems and a rare Mana Tonic. You'll want Shell for this fight, or you could summon Anima or the Magus Sisters to end this quickly. YOU WANT THE OVERKILL IN THIS FIGHT. He drops an MP Sphere, and 2 for an overkill! Its weapon drops have the now useless Double AP ability (because it's on four of the ultimate weapons) and its armor drops increase your MP by random amounts. You want to get lots and lots of MP Spheres so you can use Quick Hit lots and lots of times. And maybe for the next enemy we're gonna face...

[edit] Flan conquest

For catching 3 of every flan (yes, I made you catch 10, but you need 10 of them to unlock the more powerful stuff), you'll get 60 Twin Stars, and these are a new item. 20 of them will add Half MP Cost to a weapon, which is kinda useless...except for this fight. Although your magicians now have the One MP Cost ability on their ultimate weapons. You FFX vets are now probably thinking about how I'm gonna cover the Jumbo Flan. Well first of all, you better teach Anima Haste, Shell, Regen, and Dispel before even thinking about attempting the Jumbo Flan. Now the Jumbo Flan is completely immune to physical attacks. And by that, I mean if you try to attack it physically, you won't see a number. You won't even see a zero. You'll see the word IMMUNE in all caps. Meaning you can't touch the bastard with Quick Hit or anything like that. It also absorbs all 5 elements, including Holy, and has Auto-Reflect on. So your options are very limited here. Anyway, Jumbo Flan attacks with Level 3s, Flare, and Ultima. It also uses Reflect and Regen, and Curaga to heal itself when it gets low on HP. And did I mention that this guy has 1,300,000 HP?

Get ready for a long fight. Right now, the only thing you can do to really do damage without Anima is to Doublecast Ultima using Lulu and Yuna, whose spells both cost 1 MP. Or, you can summon Anima. Anima's special attack, Pain, gets around all of the Jumbo Flan's ridiculous defenses. If you do that, you definitely have to teach Anima Haste, Shell, Dispel, and maybe even Lancet. When the Jumbo Flan casts Regen on itself, dispel it and keep Paining it to death. YOU WANT THE OVERKILL IN THIS FIGHT. He drops a Magic Sphere, and 2 for an overkill! Its weapon drops have the MP Turbo ability, and its armor drops provide various elemental absorptions. If you have the patience, and you should, you should build up everyone's Magic Power this way. It'll take awhile, because of the very limited number of things that can even touch this reincarnation of Master Belch. And there's no Poo this time to come in and use PSI Starstorm to really murder this bitch. I mean, if nothing can stand up to Ultima, what can stand up to Omega Starstorm?

[edit] Lizard conquest

For catching 3 of every lizard (yes, I made you catch 10, but you need 10 of them to unlock the more powerful stuff), you'll get 99 Stamina Springs, and you should have plenty of these. Your enemy is the Ornitholestes. It's got average stats, although it can break the damage limit if you haven't been leveling up. You should be able to kill this either with the Magus Sisters or by Mixing Hyper Mighty G and then Quick Hitting. It only has two attacks. The first is Drain Touch, which, as you'd expect, drains HP from you, and this is the only thing that can kill you. The other attack is Poison Touch, which reduces your HP by 75% and Poisons you, which isn't a problem. Plus, both attacks are ST, so if you've been fighting the other enemies here you should be fine. You can Steal a common Rename Card and a rare Chocobo Wing. It drops 2 Gambler's Spirits, and 4 for an Overkill. Its weapon drops have Double Overdrive, which is pretty much useless, and its armor drops increase your Defense by random amounts. You only have to beat this one once.

[edit] Bomb conquest

For catching 3 of every bomb (yes, I made you catch 10, but you need 10 of them to unlock the more powerful stuff), you'll get 60 Turbo Ethers, and you can never have too many of these. Your enemy is the Bomb King. If you equip armor with Fire immunity or absorption and weapons with Magic Counter, the only thing you'll have to worry about is its rare ST physical! You can stay on the defensive the entire battle by casting Protect and Regen normally! It would be a long fight if you go this route, but here's the secret: the Bomb King, although it doesn't blow up in your face, inflates 4 times randomly. After the fourth inflation, it'll counter all attacks with Ultima. But it won't inflate if you hit it only with counterattacks! It'll only attack with its physical, or fire elemental spells. So if you decide to go this route, cast Haste on him to speed the process up. It has 480,000 HP, and you can Steal 4 common Fire Gems and a rare Shining Gem, but you can get these elsewhere. When you finally kill it, it'll drop a Door to Tomorrow, and 2 for an Overkill. Its weapon drops increase your Strength by random amounts, and its armor drops increase your Defense by random amounts.

[edit] Dragon conquest

For catching 3 of every small dragon (yes, I made you catch 10, but you need 10 of them to unlock the more powerful stuff), you'll get 99 Purifying Salts, and you might want some more of these. Your enemy is the Fafnir. Fafnir uses an attack pattern. Its first two attacks are physical, then it goes like this forever: physical, random elemental breath attack that you hate, physical. So get ready to face some hell. And the elemental breath is random, so you can't predict what it's gonna be. The bastard has over a million HP, too. It actually has 1,100,000. So start off by Mixing Hyper Mighty G (you might want to Mix Ultra Nul-All instead so you can survive the elemental attacks) and using Banishing Blade to lower its defenses, and then finish off by Quick Hitting it to death. You definitely should try Stealing, since the common Steal is 2 Gold Hourglasses, and this is the only way you can reliably get these. The rare Steal, though, is 2 Stamina Springs. Eventually, you'll wear it down. The prize for beating it is 20 Light Curtains, and 40 for an Overkill! It drops elemental weapons and armor with varying elemental absorption. You might want to fight this multiple times so you can build your Gold Hourglass stock, but you might not.

[edit] Elemental conquest

For catching 3 of every elemental (yes, I made you catch 10, but you need 10 of them to unlock the more powerful stuff), you'll get 99 Star Curtains, and you might want some more of these for Mixing. Now, this guy is TOUGH. It uses Level 3s, Bio, Drain, Osmose, Flare, and Ultima, and it can cast Reflect on itself. And it counters all physicals with Ultima. And it has 1,300,000 HP. But compared to the Ultima counter, everything else is pathetic. Doublecast Ultima, or summon Anima and have her use Pain. It's kinda like the Jumbo Flan. And all you can Steal from it are 4 common Star Curtains and a rare Twin Stars, hardly worth an Ultima counterattack. Just use Anima's Pain or doublecast Ultima to kill it. It drops a Twin Stars, and 2 for an Overkill. It drops elemental weapons and armor with varying elemental absorption. You shouldn't beat it more than once. Just beat it once because you have to.

[edit] Original Creations

Okay, this is it. The most powerful enemies in the game. All of them can, and will, break the damage limit. And all of them are very powerful. Don't fight these until you feel you're absolutely ready. Spend a lot of time fighting the Species Conquest enemies that drop Spheres so you can boost your stats a lot.

[edit] The Earth Eater

To unlock the Earth Eater, which is a palette swap of the Chocobo Eater, you have to finish two Area Conquests. Your initial reward is 60 Three Stars. You might have unlocked this earlier and probably have gotten railed, but now we're gonna fight it for real! I actually never beat this thing (Hell, I've only beaten 4 of these original creations). But I'll do my best. First of all, the Earth Eater attacks and counterattacks with Megaton Punch, which is an Instant Death attack that, if the ID doesn't hit, will hit you for massive damage unless you've really been killing Tanket. It has 1,300,000 HP, so it's gonna take awhile. You should try to hit it with multihit attacks, such as Blitz Ace or Wakka's Attack Reels. Once you deal like 100,000 HP damage to it, it'll knock down. It won't attack you here, but it will counterattack everything with Flare, which is VERY powerful, although it can't break the damage limit, so it's a good idea to summon the Magus Sisters at this point and do some Passado and Razzia while it's down. When it comes back up, though, swap it out for your normal characters. Rinse, lather, repeat. Eventually, it should fall. You should definitely go for the Overkill here. You'll win a Fortune Sphere from this guy, and 2 for an Overkill. This is the ONLY PLACE IN THE ENTIRE GAME you can get these, so definitely stock up if you find you can kill the Earth Eater easily. Its weapon drops have Triple Overdrive and its armor drops have Auto-Potion.

[edit] The Greater Sphere

To unlock the Greater Sphere, which is a palette swap of the Spherimorph, you have to finish two Species Conquests. Your initial reward is 60 Supreme Gems, which you DESPERATELY NEED AND ARE HARD TO GET. Now, this boss is TOUGH. It counters all attacks with either Ultima or Hydraulic Press. Both of these attacks are VERY POWERFUL. The good news is Hydraulic Press won't kill you, but it will take off 15/16 of your HP. It also uses Level 3s and Flare. I've never beaten this guy, so I really don't have a strategy other than get your stats up, Mix Hyper Mighty G so that Ultima can't hurt as much, and then have Wakka do an Attack Reels for 12 hits, then summon the Magus Sisters and hope for Passado, and then summon the Aeons one at a time (ie just start throwing things at it and try to outslug it) and hopefully you'll beat it eventually. It drops a Luck Sphere, and I already told you these things are overrated. Its weapon drops have One MP Cost and its armor drops have Auto-Phoenix.

[edit] The Catastrophe

To unlock the Catastrophe, which is a palette swap of the Sinspawn Geneaux, you have to finish 6 Area Conquests. Your initial reward is 99 Doors to Tomorrow. This guy initially starts in its shell and it comes out after you've dealt like 500,000 HP or something. While in the shell, it uses Toxic Cloud, which Poisons, Confuses, and Curses the entire party. It still has another 1,700,000 HP. And it has tough attacks, although I'm proud to say I HAVE beaten this one. Its attacks include Toxic Spray, which casts Power Break, Armor Break, Mental Break, and Magic Break on the entire party, and Demi, and its physical, Hundred Thorns. It attacks in that pattern all the time. And it's very slow, and it has no counterattacks, so you should be able to beat it just with Hastega and Quick Hitting it. You shouldn't even need to Mix. Use the Magus Sisters if you're still having trouble. You can Steal a common Gambler's Spirit and a rare Level 2 Key Sphere. When you beat it, you'll win a Designer Wallet (2 for an Overkill). Its weapons inflict various statuses and its armor provides random status immunity.

[edit] The Thu'ban

To unlock the Thu'ban, which is a palette swap of the Sanctuary Keeper, you have to finish 6 Species Conquests. Your initial reward is 99 Gambler's Spirits. I've beaten this guy before, too. And he does have some very tough attacks. Its physical is pretty tough by itself, and will break the Damage Limit unless you have Protect on or have a high Defense stat. Rainbow is another physical attack that inflicts Silence, Blind, Confuse, and Curse on all allies with RANDOM HITS, and Convergence is an ST magic attack that'll usually deal 99,999 HP damage to that character. It'll also put up Haste, Protect, Shell, and Regen on itself. But worst of all, it counters EVERYTHING with Condemn. No, this isn't Condemned, this is a physical attack that's slightly weaker than its normal attack, but also has Dispel on it, so it removes all your nice positive buffs, and hits all allies, so you'll want to have these abilities in your armor if you can. Haste is the least important since you can recast Hastega whenever you want. Definitely go with the Magus Sisters if you can, or use Overdrives. Quick Hit won't work as well because of its annoying counterattacks. Don't bother Stealing. All it has is a common Gambler's Spirit and a rare Teleport Sphere, and that's not worth the risk of eating the counterattacks. It has 3 million HP total, and when you FINALLY bring it down, you'll get a new item: the Underdog's Secret, which is worthless because all it does is add Double Overdrive to a weapon, and all your ultimate weapons have Triple Overdrive. Its weapon drops, though, will have Triple AP AND Triple Overdrive on them, so if you REALLY want to level up, customize Overdrive -> AP onto these weapons and watch the AP flow in! Its armor drops increase your HP by random amounts. You might want to fight this multiple times if you want the weapons, but it's not worth it if you had trouble with this guy.

[edit] The Shinryu

Hey, remember Final Fantasy V? To unlock the ultimate superboss from that game, Shinryu, which is a palette swap of the Evrae, you have to catch 2 of each enemy in the underwater area at Mt. Gagazet. Your initial reward is 30 Megalixirs. Now, this is an underwater fight, which means 2 things:

  1. You're stuck with using Tidus, Wakka, and Rikku.
  2. You BETTER have Petrification immunity on your armor (if you're curious, this one fight was the whole reason I had you put Petrification immunity on the three aforementioned characters' ultimate armors, and this is a fight you're gonna want to repeat often).

I've never beaten Shinryu, but that's because I was an idiot and didn't go in with Petrification immunity (I haven't played this in years, so sue me). When you go into this fight, IMMEDIATELY have Rikku Mix Hyper Mighty G on the party to put the four good statuses up. Now, the fight shouldn't be too hard at all. It has a powerful claw swipe counterattack (if you Mixed Hyper Mighty G, it's not by any means fatal), and it has two other moves: Shining, which deals 8 or 9 random attacks for small damage, and Eraser, which doesn't do any damage, but Petrifies a character. And since you're underwater, that Petrification kills the target and removes the target from the battle. This is why I had you put Petrification immunity on your characters. Now, it only has 2 million HP, which is low for one of these bosses. So just Quick Hit it to death, or use stuff like Blitz Ace or Wakka's Attack Reels. Steal if you want. It has a common Gambler's Spirit and a rare Three Stars, but there are better ways to get both. YOU WANT THE OVERKILL IN THIS FIGHT. It drops a Wing to Discovery, and 2 for an Overkill! This is the item that puts Break HP Limit in your armor, so you want lots of these! Its weapon drops have Double AP in them and its armor drops have Auto Med. Those aren't worth it at all, but the Wings to Discovery are!

Anyway, there are 6 more enemies you can fight in the Monster Arena, but we have to visit Sin before we can fight them. But that's all the sidequest stuff we can do, so it's FINALLY back to the main quest!
