Well, now our quest for Aeons and ultimate weapons brings us back to the dreaded Monster Arena, so this part will talk about that. Now, the dude there will present the monsters for you to fight in a completely random order. You will NOT be able to defeat all of the monsters right now. But let's see how I do with this, and if you can find a way to beat some of the more powerful monsters and the status whores without the proper protection, then all the power to you.
Contents |
[edit] Ultimate armor?
First, you should go to Macalania and find Wantz. He has four empty slotted armor you can buy. Pick up two for each character. It's expensive (it'll cost you 1,400,000 to buy two of these for each character), but it's worth it, trust me. If you can't afford them all, try to stock up for as many characters as you can. The reason for this is that each character will have two ultimate armors: one for dealing with normal enemies and one for dealing with status whores. You won't be able to fill up everyone's normal armor just yet, but try to get the status ones done first. In the end, these are the abilities you should put on each ultimate armor.
[edit] Normal ultimate armors
- Break HP Limit
- Auto-Protect
- Auto-Shell
- Stoneproof
- Break HP Limit
- Auto-Shell
- Auto-Protect/Auto-Regen/Deathproof/Break MP Limit
- Auto-Haste/Auto-Regen/Deathproof/Break MP Limit
- Break HP Limit
- Auto-Protect
- Auto-Shell/Auto-Regen/Deathproof/Auto-Phoenix
- Auto-Haste/Auto-Regen/Deathproof/Auto-Phoenix
For Rikku:
- Break HP Limit
- Auto-Protect
- Stoneproof
- Master Thief
Any ability in slashes means you pick it. You can get all of these abilities with some time. Break HP Limit and Master Thief are the only one you can't get right now easily, although if you did the Chocobo Racing you'll have 30 Wings to Discovery and 30 Pendulums, so you can give Master Thief to Rikku and Break HP Limit to whoever you want, preferably Yuna or one of the swimming characters. Just buy what you can.
[edit] Status whore ultimate armors
- Confuseproof
- Berserkproof
- Blindproof
- Poisonproof/Sleepproof/Stoneproof
- Confuseproof
- Berserkproof
- Silenceproof
- Poisonproof/Sleepproof/Stoneproof
- Confuseproof
- Berserkproof
- Blindproof
- Slowproof
For Rikku:
- Confuseproof
- Berserkproof
- Sleepproof
- Slowproof
You can get all of these now. And now, onto the Monster Arena! Before entering, save your game, and read the preps for each section. Like I said, the order is COMPLETELY RANDOM (although all unique creations come after the area and species enemies), but I'm going to present them in the order from place to place, first the area, then the species. THANKFULLY, you can change equipment mid battle. After each fight, I recommend going out into the Calm Lands and refilling everything's Overdrive.
[edit] Besaid Conquest
For catching 1 of every monster on Besaid (yes, I made you catch 10, but you need 10 of them to unlock the more powerful stuff), you'll get 99 Stamina Tonics. This is a pretty cool item. Only one (yes, one) of them, is required to add HP +30% to an armor. Anyway, now, onto your enemy! This is the Stratoavis, which is a Zuu palette swap. It's actually not that tough. For a Monster Arena enemy, it doesn't have much HP (only 320,000 HP). If you want, you can start out with Armor Break, although this only works ten percent of the time. Quick Hit and Hastega are your best friends here, as are Wakka's Attack Reels. It's only real pain is Paean of the Heavens, which inflicts Blind and deals gravity based damage to all allies (it takes away 15/16 of everyone's current HP), but still, it can't kill you and it's slow enough that you should be able to heal up. Definitely try to Steal from it. Its common Steal is 3 Smoke Bombs and its rare Steal is 2 Stamina Springs. When it drops, you'll know it's low on HP. When it gets under 100,000 HP, summon Anima and use her Overdrive to murder it. For winning you get 2 Amulets (4 for an Overkill). This is a new item, so here's what it does:
- 30 will add Pickpocket to an armor.
This is nice to have, although the Master Thief-granting Pendulums are better. If you don't have the patience to get the Pendulums though, this will still satisfy. Its weapon drops increase Strength by 5, 10, or 20%, and its armor drops increase your max HP by 10, 20, or 30%.
[edit] Kilika Conquest
For catching 1 of every monster in Kilika (yes, I made you catch 10, but you need 10 of them to unlock the more powerful stuff), you'll get 99 Poison Fangs, which you should already have a ton of. You'll be facing a Malboro Menace, which is a very, very tough enemy. It ALWAYS goes first, and it ALWAYS opens with Putrid Breath, which deals minor damage to the party, but inflicts you with just about every status ailment in the book. If you can, try to anticipate it and equip your status whore armor. If a character somehow isn't Confused or Berserked, his or her first order of business is to put on his or her status protection armor and heal the other characters. Yuna should summon Anima immediately so he can harmlessly absorb all future status attacks. Its physical is powerful, and it has two other attacks: Mega Gastric Juice, which casts Power Break, Magic Break, Armor Break, and Mental Break on a character, which is VERY BAD. It's other attack is a defense ignoring physical with a 50% chance to Petrify you. If you summon Anima for the fight, she can harmlessly take the statuses. Use her Overdrive when the Malboro Menace gets under 100,000 HP. It might take awhile since it has 640,000 HP. Don't bother Stealing; the common Steal is 4 Remedies and the rare Steal is 2 Mana Springs, and you can get both of these things elsewhere. It drops 2 Mana Tonics (4 if you got the Overkill), and one of these adds MP +30% to an armor. It drops weapons and armor that inflict various statuses and provide status immunities, so if you can't afford a blank armor and it drops an armor with Confuse or Berserk immunity that has 3 more empty slots, you just saver yourself some money.
[edit] Mi'ihen Highroad Conquest
For catching 1 of every monster along the Mi'ihen Highroad (yes, I made you catch 10, but you need 10 of them to unlock the more powerful stuff), you'll get 99 Soul Springs, which you should already some of, but you'll probably want more. Your enemy is Kottos, an Ogre palette swap. This fight isn't that hard at all. This guy only attacks physically, although his attacks are powerful, and he counterattacks EVERYTHING with just a normal physical. He doesn't have any MT attacks, though, which is good. You should start immediately by having Rikku Mix two Curtains (preferably Star Curtains, since we're trying to save the others for customization) so you can all get Protect, Shell, Haste, and Regen. This should make the fight easy for you. The best thing to do is attack, let him counter, and then heal up, rinse, lather, repeat. If you think you can risk eating another counterattack, try Stealing. You can steal 4 common Stamina Springs and 2 rare Soul Springs. It only has 440,000 HP, which is small for a jacked up monster on 'roids in the monster arena, where enemies usually have 500,000+ HP. Once it gets below 100,000 HP, summon Anima, use her Overdrive, you know the drill. You will LOVE the things it drops. It drops 20 (!!!) Healing Springs, and 40 of them for an Overkill! Now you can REALLY get going with customizing Auto-Regen onto your ultimate armors if you want them! Its weapons let you counterattack various things, and its armor increases max HP by a lot.
[edit] Mushroom Rock Conquest
For catching 1 of every monster at Mushroom Rock (yes, I made you catch 10, but you need 10 of them to unlock the more powerful stuff), you'll get 99 Candles of Life, which you should already some of, but you'll probably want more. If you can tell, I'm being very lazy here and doing copy-paste. Anyway, time for your next fight! You'll be facing the Couerl Regina, which is the traditional Panther type enemy from games past. It most resembles the Final Fantasy IV Black Cat in terms of its attacks. It's still very easy though because none of its attacks are powerful, and they're all ST. Chaos is its most dangerous attack, and it inflicts the three "C's": Confuse, Curse, and Condemned. Its other dangerous attack is Hyper Blaster, which is Instant Death. Yuna should equip her armor with ID immunity from the Yunalesca fight. Its other attacks are Thundaga, Drain, and Flare, which are either surprisingly weak or it doesn't use much. It only has 380,000 HP, so it's pretty easy to bring down. Just use whatever on it. Definitely try to Steal from it. It has 2 common Farplane Winds and a rare Blessed Gem. This kickass item is one you've never seen before. If you got the Pendulums from the Chocobo Race at Remiem and customized them onto Rikku's ultimate armor, have her, and only her, Steal. That way you'll only get Blessed Gems. This is what they do:
- 60 will teach an Aeon Holy (!!)
- 4 will add Defense +20% to an armor.
- 4 will add Magic Defense +20% to an armor.
Use normal attacks, and summon Anima when the Couerl Regina gets low on HP, and use her Overdrive to kill it. Your prize for killing it is 3 Shining Gems. You get 6 of these for an Overkill! These are really awesome and here's what they do:
- 60 will teach an Aeon Flare (!!!).
- 16 will add Magic Counter to a weapon.
Kill 10 of these using Overkills and you can teach an Aeon Flare! Their weapon drops inflict ID or double your AP gained after battle, and their armor provides random status immunities. If you see an ability you like and you don't have enough Gil to afford an ultimate armor, you can use that until you do.
[edit] Djose and Moonflow Conquest
For catching 1 of every monster along the Djose Highroad and along the Moonflow (yes, I made you catch 10, but you need 10 of them to unlock the more powerful stuff), you'll get 99 Petrify Grenades, which you should already have plenty of. Your enemy this time is the Jormungand, which is a Basilisk palette swap. It's not that bad, although it's not as easy as the previous ones. This is because it has an MT magic attack called Space Time Vorpal. It also has Cold Stare, which, as you'd expect, Petrifies a character. Equip everyone with armor that has Petrification immunity, and have Rikku open by Mixing the Curtains and you should be fine. He's also very slow. Definitely try to Steal. The common Steal is 4 Petrify Grenades and the rare Steal is a Three Stars, which I've told you about back during the Chocobo Racing. Beyond that, use the general strategy: Quick Hit until he gets low on HP, then summon Anima and use her Overdrive when he gets under 100,000 HP (he has 520,000 HP if you're curious). The prize is 2 Supreme Gems, and if you Overkill it you'll get 4 of them. This is a great item, probably the best usable item in the game (well, that's relative, but this one certainly ranks up there). Here's what it does:
- 99 will teach an Aeon Ultima (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).
- 4 will add Strength +20% to a weapon.
- 4 will add Magic +20% to a weapon.
Start stocking up on these NOW. If you played Final Fantasy VI you know how powerful the Big Blue Dome of Death is. Although it's not the Big Blue Dome of Death here, but I like to call it that because that's what it was in FFVI, which is the best game in the series. Its weapon drops inflict random statuses and its armor drops have various status immunities. You can get your status ultimate armors by fighting these things and save some money if you want.
[edit] Thunder Plains Conquest
For catching 1 of every monster in the Thunder Plains (yes, I made you catch 10, but you need 10 of them to unlock the more powerful stuff), you'll get 99 Chocobo Wings, which are rare and thus you need a lot of them. Your enemy this time is the Cactuar King. This one's INCREDIBLY easy, even though all it does is use unblockable defense ignoring attacks that kill you in one hit. Luckily, they're all ST. It uses 10,000 Needles and 99,999 Needles, and you should know exactly what these do by looking at their names. It only has 100,000 HP, so follow this simple formula:
I already told you what the Blessed Gems do. Oh, and don't bother Stealing. It has 2 common Chocobo Wings and a rare Designer Wallet. There are better places to get both items and you don't want to eat an unnecessary counterattack. Its weapon drops increase your Strength by varying amounts and its armor drops increase your Defense by varying amounts.
[edit] Macalania Conquest
For catching 1 of every monster in Macalania, including both the forest AND the lake, (yes, I made you catch 10, but you need 10 of them to unlock the more powerful stuff), you'll get 60 Shining Gems, which are rare and thus you need a lot of them. Your enemy here is the Espada. This is a Klikk palette swap. Equip armor with ID immunity or protection for this battle. It counters most attacks attacks with Hades Claw, which inflicts Instant Death and Poison. Now, how does it do that, you ask? Well, the Poison is a backup in case it doesn't kill you. If you want to Steal, go ahead, but make sure that person has ID immunity. The common Steal is 4 Farplane Shadows and the rare Steal is a Farplane Wind. There are better ways to get Farplane Winds, but this may be the best way to get the Farplane Shadows. And Yuna's ID armor allows her to Steal them easily. It doesn't have much HP (only 280,000), so it should be pretty easy to kill. Just get it down to under 100,000 HP and summon Anima, use Oblivion, blah-blah-blah... It drops a useless Rename Card, which lets you rename your Aeons, but has no practical use at all. In other words, this item blows. ts weapon drops increase your Strength by varying amounts and its armor drops increase your Defense by varying amounts. Kill it once, and don't fight it ever again unless you want to waste resources.
[edit] Mt. Gagazet Conquest
For catching 1 of every monster on Mt. Gagazet, including both outside AND inside, and even in the water, (yes, I made you catch 10, but you need 10 of them to unlock the more powerful stuff), you'll get a Blossom Crown, which is a key item, and is the real reason we came to the Monster Arena right now. For finishing up 10 of these areas, you'll also get a Mars Sigil, which is the last ingredient for Auron's ultimate weapon.
And I'm guessing you still want to know what the enemy is? It's the Catoblepas. It's a Behemoth palette swap, so you know it's gonna be tough. This big guy has 550,000 HP, and it's got some dangerous attacks. Its Pop Fly is very powerful, and delays your turn, and it can also cast a powerful Flare spell. You can Steal 3 common Healing Springs and a rare Stamina Tonic if you want, so go ahead and do it. Be alert though, I BELIEVE but I'm not sure if this guy can break the Damage Limit. Most enemies here do, but some don't. If you open by Mixing Curtains, this shouldn't even be a big deal anyway so long as you remember to heal up when you get low on HP (Catoblepas doesn't have any MT attacks). Use the usual formula: Quick Hit attacks, then when it gets low on HP, summon Anima and use Oblivion. Watch out though. This guy uses Ultima as a final attack, and it WILL kill anyone not protected by Shell, and it's MT, so you're screwed. But if Anima is up there, she can take the attack and you'll win the battle. If you can take the Ultima and survive, you'll be rewarded with a Three Stars, and you'll get two of them for an Overkill! Its armor drops have various status immunities which you can use for your anti-status whore ultimate armor and save some Gil, and its weapon drops can afflict enemies with statuses.
Anyway, that's all the enemies you can fight for now. And you're too weak to do the Species and Original enemies at this point, and we have what we came here for (the Blossom Crown and the Mars Sigil), so we're done for now!
