The final showdown with Sin, I say we wait a little while first!
[edit] The hardest part about getting the Ultimate Weapons
Okay, first, we're gonna get everyone's Celestial Weapon. Where else to start but the Blitzball arena? Now that you can play again, you should see a tournament start up soon with the Auroch Reels as a prize. Play the tourney and win the prize. Now, you may have to play two leagues, maybe just one, but the prize you want to win is the Jupiter Sigil. This can take hours upon hours to do, but it's best to get it out of the way. Be patient, and you'll get the Jupiter Sigil, which is an ingredient in Wakka's ultimate weapon.
Now, go back to Macalania. Go to the shrine thing on the starry path above the forest. You have all the ingredients you need to make Tidus's ultimate weapon. These are the Caladbolg, the Sun Crest, and the Sun Sigil, which you should've gotten in you've been following this walkthrough. Hold them up to the shrine thing, and you'll be able to equip the Caladbolg now! This is Tidus's ultimate weapon fully charged, and here are the abilities it has:
- Break Damage Limit
- Triple Overdrive
- Evade & Counter
- Magic Counter
So as you can see, it's very worth it.
But we're not done here yet! Now, go back down into the forest floor. You'll need to capture 10 of every monster here (see Part 13 of this Walkthrough for more info on what you need to capture, and this includes the four monsters in the lake area). Also, you have to play the butterfly catching game again. Keep in mind that this game is MUCH harder because there are more red butterflies. You'll have to learn their paths and be patient. It's better to waste a few seconds trying to avoid a red butterfly than to hit one. Be VERY patient, because this is probably one of the hardest things to do in the entire game. If you beat one of the two areas, you'll get a Teleport Sphere. If you beat both, you'll get the Saturn Sigil, which is an ingredient for Kimahri's ultimate weapon, and the hardest ingredient for any ultimate weapon to get.
As long as we're here, we might as well do some more stuff, right? Now, go to the Thunder Plains. You'll need an armor with No Encounters, and if you followed the walkthrough you should know how to get one. You need to catch 10 of every enemy here, too, including the Qactuars. See Part 12 for a list of enemies you need to catch. When you're done with that, go to the Travel Agency in the middle of the Thunder Plains. Save your game and equip the No Encounters armor. Remember the lightning bolt dodger game? We're gonna do it now! Here are the prizes you can win, again:
- 5 Bolts - 2 X-Potions
- 10 Bolts - 2 Mega-Potions
- 20 Bolts - 2 MP Spheres
- 50 Bolts - 3 Strength Spheres
- 100 Bolts - 3 HP Spheres
- 150 Bolts - 4 Megalixirs
- 200 Bolts - 1 Venus Sigil
So, you have to dodge 200 Bolts in a row without saving or getting hit. This is easier said than done. Here's my strategy on how to do it.
- Turn the volume all the way down
- Put on some music you really like
- Turn the lights off in the room you're playing in
- Equip the No Encounters armor
- Go to the place north of the Travel Agency where the two paths merge. This is where the Lightning Bolts are most common
- Dodge Lightning Bolts for 20 minutes
If you didn't get hit while you were doing this, you should have the Venus Sigil, which is an ingredient in Lulu's ultimate weapon. To claim your prizes, go to the chest outside the Travel Agency.
There's still more to do here, though! In the Thunder Plains, there are various stones with Cactuars on them. Approach them when they're glowing and press the Square Button to pray to them. Once you do this three times, go to the southern half of the Thunder Plains to find a Cactuar Ghost running around. Follow it around (it's easier if you have the No Encounters armor on) and eventually it'll lead you to a secret tower with a chest with a Spirit Lance. This is Kimahri's ultimate weapon. Also, look around for another Jecht's Sphere. This one shows Jecht, Auron, and Braska filming in the Thunder Plains.
We now have all Kimahri's ingredients (we got the Saturn Crest in an earlier part, remember?), so let's go back to that shrine in Macalania to power it up! Here are its abilities:
- Break Damage Limit
- Triple Overdrive
- Evade & Counter
- Double AP
So this lets Kimahri level up faster. Also, Ixion can now break 9,999 HP damage with his attacks! Sweet!
As long as we're in Macalania, let's repay a visit to the temple, shall we? Go all the way into the temple, even to the place that Yuna went and you guys couldn't. You'll meet a Fayth here who will tell you something. You'll find a Magic Sphere, a Magic Defense Sphere, and an Accuracy Sphere here as well. Now, go back to the Airship.
[edit] Say the password!
It's time to open up some new places to go now on the airship! Talk to Baked Jake, and on the list, choose to enter some passwords. These are the passwords you need to enter: "GODHAND," "VICTORIOUS," and "MURASAME." These open up Mushroom Rock, Besaid Ruins 1, and Besaid Ruins 2 respectively. Each of these locations has an item for you. Mushroom Rock has the Godhand, which is Rikku's ultimate weapon. The Besaid Ruins 1 have the Victorious, an armor for Rikku that has various elemental immunities. The Besaid Ruins 2 have a Murasame for Auron. This isn't his ultimate weapon (go figure...), but it does have One MP Cost on it. Right now, though, Auron needs his monster catching katana on, so don't equip this.
Now, there are some locations we can find on the airship map using coordinates. Here are the ones you need to find.
- Sanubia Sands (13,42)
- Battle Site (40,58)
- Besaid Falls (31,73)
- Mi'ihen Ruins (34,58)
Each of these has a treasure also. No ultimate weapons though. Well, here's what each one has. The Sanubia Sands has the Ascalon for Tidus, which doubles his AP after battle. Useless, now that he has his ultimate weapon. The Battle Site has a nice Phantom Bangle for Lulu, which lets her absorb 3 different elements! The Besaid Falls has the Dragoon Lance for Kimahri, which is useless now that he has his ultimate weapon. The Mi'ihen Ruins have the Sonar for Rikku, which increases your rate for preemptive attacks. This can be useful until you finish getting the ingredients for Rikku's ultimate weapon.
[edit] Return to the Temples
Now, it's time to take a break from getting Ultimate Weapons and return to all the Temples. We've already been to Macalania, so that's something we can check off. So go back to Besaid now. There are three enemies here that you have to catch 10 of, and I think they're pretty easy to find, because there are only 3 of them. Anyway, once you've done that, go to the Besaid Temple. Look around for another Jecht's Sphere, which shows the cool people in Besaid. Jecht doesn't like the fact that it's small, and Braska asks Auron to bring Yuna here after they defeat Sin. Once this is over, go into the temple and do the Cloister of Trials again. Once you finish it, go to the Chamber of the Fayth. You'll hear Valefor's Fayth talking. After that, look around the room for 2 Potions, a Hi-Potion, an Elixir, an Evasion Sphere, and a White Magic Sphere.
Now, go to Kilika, and take the S.S. Liki, NOT the Airship. This is because there's another Jecht's Sphere on the S.S. Liki. Jecht will ask what's gonna happen next, and Braska will say that they're going back to Bevelle, and then onto Zanarkand from there. He then says there's nothing left to do for him but try and fight Sin, and that Braska shouldn't make Yuna cry.
In Kilika, go to the jungle, and catch 10 of all the enemies there. Part 5 lists them. Once you've done that, go to the temple and complete the Cloister of Trials again and go to the Chamber of the Fayth. Listen to what Ifrit has to say, and then you'll find a Luck Sphere, an Accuracy Sphere, a Defense Sphere, and an Agility Sphere.
Go back to the airship and go to Djose. On the Djose Highroad, catch 10 of all the monsters listed in Part 9. The Simurghs are the hardest ones to find, but be patient. Then, go to the Djose Temple and complete the Cloister of Trials again. Talk to Ixion's Fayth and you'll find a Luck Sphere, a Magic Defense Sphere, and an Agility Sphere. Now, go to the Moonflow. On the way, catch 10 Ochus. Once you reach the Moonflow, look for another Jecht's Sphere. This one shows Jecht attacking a Shoopuf and vowing to stop being drunk (and I doubt Jecht has the patience of Jerry Orbach). Ride the Shoopuf to Guadosalam and watch the scene with Tromell. He's still pissed at you and demands that you kill him. Ignore him and go to the Farplane to find a chest with a Venus Crest inside, which is another ingredient for Lulu's ultimate weapon.
Now, go back to Zanarkand. Follow the dungeon all the way along the highway and through the building until you reach the Cloister of Trials (you'll see a pissed off Dona and Barthello, who are pissed that there's nothing there). Go into the big room. Now, your job is to hit all the white square blocks here without touching any of the others. And they're in both of the rooms. There's three in the first room and four in the second room, so find them all. A new door will open up with a Destruction Sphere. Put it in the right hole in the big room and a chest will appear with a Magistral Rod for Yuna, which halves her MP cost of spells. It's nice to have before you get her ultimate weapon, but we're gonna get that very, very soon.
