Welcome back to the walkthrough! Anyway, we're far from done with Mt. Gagazet. We have to go through the mountain now!
[edit] Another crystal cave
We're in a cave, and there are five new enemies you have to catch 10 of. And they're all the big, bad, tough kind. That's pretty much what you get from now on though, so get used to it, kiddo.
Let's start with the smallest of the big enemies. You've seen floating eyeballs, so here's the one you're probably most familiar with: the Ahriman. Strangely, it doesn't use Condemned. It just confuses you with its physical. You can Steal lots of Musks from it. The common Steal is 2 and the rare is 3. Wakka should focus on catching it until you have 10, then kill them however you want. It drops the usual weapons and armor that protects against Confuse. Not much for a giant floating eyeball.
The next smallest of the big enemies is my alter-ego the Grendel, which is a bigger version of the Dual Horn. Unlike other rams, this big guy is armored, so you have to open with Armor Break from Wakka or Auron. You can Steal a common Hi-Potion and a rare Mega-Potion, so stock up if you're low. Watch out for its powerful physical. Its weapon drops are fire elemental and randomly cast Silence, and its armor drops increase your max HP by 10%.
After that, the next big enemy is the Dark Flan, which is a giant Flan. Unlilke the other Flans, this guy has VERY high Defense AND Magic Defense and resists all elements except Holy. Still, if you want to damage it, having Yuna cast Holy and Lulu cast Flare is your best bet. Unless you're trying to capture them. In this case, Auron or Wakka should use Armor Break to lower their defenses so you can attack normally. Watch out for this guy, though, because it uses spells like Demi and Osmose, and even Flare. You can Steal Star Curtains from them. The common Steal is 1 and the rare is 2. Their weapon drops increase your Magic Power by varying amounts, but their armor drops increase your max MP by a whopping 20%!
The Mandragora is next. As you can tell, it's a real status whore. As such, you can steal lots of Remedies from it. The common Steal is 2 and the rare is 3. Watch out for lots of nasty statuses like Poison, Confuse, Blind, and tons of others. They're weak to Fire, so you may want to have Lulu weaken it with Firaga before Wakka or Auron catches it. Their armor drops protect against lots of statuses.
And now, here's the enemy we've all been waiting for: the Behemoth! Wakka wants to know how many steaks you can get out of them, but we sadly won't learn this until Final Fantasy XII. Anyway, the Behemoth has some nasty attacks. It's physical is powerful enough, and he has a Heave attack which is even worse (and it looks painful...). Anyway, these Behemoths have some nice stuff for Stealin'. Their common Steal is an Ether and the rare is a Mana Tablet. This is a new item, and it only has one use: to add MP Stroll to an armor. Only 2 of them are required, so keep that in mind.
Also starring: Mech Defenders and Mech Leaders.
So anyway, work your way to the save point and make a left and go down to the water. When you get there, Lulu will tell Tidus, Wakka, and Rikku that they have to go by themselves. Too bad, we could really use Yuna down here and we really want Auron.
There are three enemies in the water, and all of them suck, mostly because you're stuck with three characters. The first is the Splasher, which can Poison you with its physical (this kinda reminds me of Earthbound, where the dogs could poison you, now fish can?). Anyway, it has bullcrap to Steal, so don't even bother. The common Steal is a Grenade and the rare is a Frag Grenade. Neither of these do shit. Anyway, Wakka needs to deliver the finishing blow to these (and to EVERYTHING in the water) because, yes, you have to catch 10 of all these guys. Its weapon and armor drops aren't worth shit, either.
Next up is the Maelspike, which sucks because it can use Maelstrom, and it's armored, too, so if Wakka doesn't know Armor Break by now, well, good luck because he has to deliver the finishing blow. You can Steal lots of Water Gems from them. The common Steal is 2 and the rare is 3. Their armor drops have Zombie protection.
The last enemy is the Achelous, which has a new item. It's common Steal is a Water Gem, but its rare Steal is a Healing Spring. This is an important item because...
So start collecting now. Their armor drops have Auto Med on them, just in case you need some armor with this ability.
Now, go straight ahead all the way to the end. You'll see a puzzle here. Wakka has to use his Blitzball to hit a target in the middle. However, there are two rotating things with openings, so you have to time your shot. Do this to get a Level 1 Key Sphere. Go all the way back to the Save Point (you'll get the characters who can't swim/are too lazy to swim back at that point). Go north through the passage that was blocked earlier. Make a left at the fork and go back in the water (lazy Yuna, Lulu, and Kimahri. Auron gets a free pass because he's cool enough. But the rest of you are a bunch of wimps). Anyway, at the end you'll find a bunch of lights. You have to have each of your characters swim into them. Have Wakka swim into the big, red one. Tidus goes in the medium sized blue one. And Rikku is tiny enough to squeeze into the little green one. After that, look for a chest underneath with a Fortune Sphere. Now, go back the other way in the fork. There are two chests. One has a Return Sphere, while the other has a Recovery Ring for Yuna. It's basically a Tintinabar that only Yuna can use. Now, go back and save at the save point, and go to the left fork again. Go up the stairs to find a chest with a Pep Talk for Wakka, which makes him immune to ALL elements when he's low on HP! This can be useful, so save it! Now, continue up the stairs here and save your game. Now, get everyone's Overdrives back up and equip armor that provides status immunity or protection, specifically Confuse, Blind, Silence, Sleep, or Curse.
You'll see a scene. Auron will mention that Yunalesca lives in Zanarkand, and is also undead.
A boss fight is coming up after you leave the cave! It's the Sanctuary Keeper!
This isn't a hard boss, but it's the "OMG I HAVE TO USE TEH BRAINZ!" type of boss (I died the first few times I fought it because I was an idiot). This thing puts up a lot of positive buffs on himself. Specifically, he uses Protect, Reflect, Haste, and Regen. He also opens up the fight with his most dangerous move: Photon Wings. This inflicts Confuse, [Blind (Status)|[Blind]], Silence, Sleep, and Curse on the entire party! This can be deadly, so hopefully you listened to me and equipped the proper armor. Now, you can't heal Curse with Esuna, which is bad because this means you can't use your Overdrives. It also uses Mana Cannon, which deals massive non-elemental magic damage to a character. It also counters with Tail Sweep, which is like Tidus's Delay Attack on all allies.
Start by Stealing from it. You can get Turbo Ethers from it. The common Steal is 1 and the rare is 2. Then, throw whatever you have at it. Cast Reflect on it because, and this is the annoying part, it starts casting Curaga, healing itself for 9,999 HP at a time, after it loses 10,000 HP. It was this and all the Cursing that gave me fits here. Once he gets down to a point where Bahamut can comfortably kill him with an Overdrive, then do that. You'll win Return Spheres from him, and his weapon drops occasionally have the Half MP Cost ability on them! If you get one of these, equip it! The next area has no catchable monsters you haven't already got, so you don't need to worry about that stuff. Its armor drops can increase your maximum MP by 10%.
[edit] Yuna's last will and testament
Rikku will try to delay Yuna so she can keep thinking of another way, but it doesn't work. Tidus will start to get worried, too, and then Auron will tell you that he felt the same way on his first pilgrimage. Wakka will tell Tidus that he shouldn't think about it or he'll just flip out again. Tidus will then break the fourth wall again and tell us about Zanarkand, which is where we are now.
Further up the path, Rikku demands Yuna turn back, but Yuna gives her cousin a hug and tells her that she has to be strong for her. Yeah right. If a damsel in distress can't be strong than neither can a flimsy easily freaked out little runt. Yuna also drops a sphere. After everyone goes on, Tidus looks at it. It's Yuna's last will and testament. Although she's not leaving anyone anything but "thank yous." What about all the crap she has at home? Where will that go? Oh, duh. Yuna is a very righteous woman and will give all of her prized possessions to charity! Or maybe some Sin relief organization that doesn't work.
After that, keep going down the path. Eventually, you'll get to a campsite. The very same campsite that was in the opening. Tidus tells everyone to listen to his story. What? AGAIN? No. I won't. I've heard your story once and that's enough for me. No more stories! Let's just get this over with. Later, everyone's thinking about the adventure to this point. Kinda reminds me of the Chrono Trigger scene at the campfire, only with infinitely inferior characters than ones like the almighty Frog, Magus, and Lucca.
Anyway, it's now time to go into Zanarkand. But that's Part 24. Enjoy your time off, it's gonna be awhile before I make the next part!
