Part 2: Again, some of this was stolen from AK.

[edit] At least the bastard can swim

Now, Tidus will wake up in a completely unknown, desolate place. After trying to pretend that the bird, shortly seen, does not carry any important symbolism, we now are in control again. The first area is submerged in water, so swim your way around. At one point, to the right, you should see some stairs leading up from the water. Use your undoubtedly remarkable Jedi senses to walk up the stairs. Open the chest nearby (200 Gil are inside), and examine the weird blue spot on a pillar. Carved onto the pillar is a strange message, seemingly in Gibberish, so ignore this for now. To the north-west, there is another staircase, so take the chest here too for a Potion. You'll also find an "Al Bhed Compilation Sphere" on this level. Just what the hell is this thing? It asks you to open your memory card? No, this is for your second playthrough. Ignore it for now. Then go north to the big bombad staircase.

I can't really comment...

Take the time to save at this save sphere, and continue along the precarious bridge of rock. When the bridge comes to a fork, go to the left and continue along that part of the bridge until you see a chest that begs to be opened. Inside is a Hi-Potion. Then go back to the fork and continue north on the bridge. You'll get a cutscene where Tidus falls into the water. Thank God he's a Blitzball player, otherwise he'd drown. You'll fight a bunch of Sahagins here, which are cheese to kill with physical attacks. When you kill off two of them, a really, really big fish will eat the last one (Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn's words, "There's always a bigger fish" comes to mind) and you'll have to fight it! It's Geosgaeno, like the cheese. Just use physicals against this guy, too. He'll then chase Tidus into an opening in the ruins, and our man barely escapes in the nick of time.

But it seems like fighting an overgrown lobster would be preferable to what happens next. Tidus is now stuck in an ancient ruin, or a cold storage unit for a McDonalds restaurant; in short, it's freakin' cold. If you are part of the emo subculture, you will most likely cry yourself to sleep to the music currently playing. But, Brave Adventurer, do not falter! Move on, and enter the egress (door) before you. You will find yourself in a grand hall, whose grandness seems to have faded through many years of American bombings, and the statue in the middle will give you nightmares.

[edit] Okay! From this point on, no more AK! This is all me now! I'm free! Free at last!

So, you'll find your way up from that hole and into a really big room (wow! That's a really big room!) But it's also a very cold room. And as much as we all want Tidus to freeze at least to the point where he stops whining and starts talking a bit slower, we have to get him some fire. But Tidus came from Zanarkand, right? He's a city slicker (just like that moron CSM) and doesn't have the tools to make a fire! Well, video game logic says there's fire making tools around here somewhere. There's a save point here in the southwest corner of the room (learn to love that minimap; it's the closest thing to a nice World Map in this game!), so use it for your free healup (and save your game, duh, unless you want to fight a pathetically easy school of fish you don't gain experience from again). In the nearby door there's a room with some weird stuff inside that you'll never get to use or even know the function of. But there is a Flint in here you can use to start a fire. But that's not enough. You need some other stuff, too. So exit the weird room and head back to the big room. Head to the east corner for a chest with an X-Potion inside. Now, go through the northern door. There's an Ether in a chest here. Go up the stairs to find... a Withered Bouquet? I guess this is the tinder Tetsuckya Nomora chose for this game. What a bad idea. It sounds too... prettyboy-like. Head onto the balcony for a chest with a Hi-Potion.

Now, go to the middle of the main room and press X where you see the coals. Tidus will light the fire, and whine some more about food. I'd say let him starve. Now, you get a flashback with Auron and the purple kid again who talks in that crappy voice. But you'll be woken up by a giant insect. Time to fight!

Klikk is the first real boss of the game. And you have to fight him with Tidus alone. Just use physical attacks (or Spiral Cut if you somehow manage to get your Overdrive gauge up). When you get low on HP, don't be afraid to use a Potion. Your Potion problems will be over in a few minutes or something. So just do that. In the middle of the fight, a bunch of weird looking guys who look like they take regular trips to visit The Poopsmith appear and pull out shotguns...with bayonets? Weird. But suddenly, a little girl (you can tell she's female from her hair and the way she dances and prances around... but she still looks like she came from The Poopsmith's house will dance and prance around and join the battle. Final Fantasy VI fans rejoce; her name is "??????" Could it be...Terra? Nope, too short and too ditzy and bubbly, and Square doesn't like to reuse its characters, especially super cool ones like Terra. Guess this means she's the token bubbly ditz? Weird. Usually this character is the LAST one you meet. Anyway, you'll get a tutorial on how to Steal items and Use them. Right now, only "??????" can Steal and Use items. These items she can Steal and Use are Grenades, which are much stronger than her weak physical. I actually suggest Stealing two or three times (enemies hold more than one item in this game). Use Potions to heal, and eventually this bastard will fall. Hooray! You'll get your first actual EXP from this battle (well, AP to be more exact; there's no EXP in this, but AP basically serves the same purpose. Read more about AP and the Sphere Grid at that link to your left). You'll also get an Ability Sphere, which you don't know what to do with at this point.

Yeah, I really wish she WAS....

Now, in a scene right out of The Adventures of Tintin, you'll here the guys with the guns and facemasks start to jabber in some strange language (I have to admit when I first picked up this game I immediately thought I bought some weird foreign version). "??????" will also butt in and start talking in the language (and it's so damn funny to hear a little girl talk in a strange accent). She'll then say something that sounds a bit flirtatious to you and either stab you or drug you (I personally think it's the latter, so we can wonder about what kind of stuff she does to Tidus between this scene and the next. I like to think it's dirty, raunchy foreign mail order bride sex).

[edit] Billions of Billious Blue Blistering Barbecued Barnacles! We're trapped on a boat!

So you'll wake up and you'll be introduced to who seems to be the leader of this group of people. What are these guys anyway? Pirates? Drug-smugglers? If Square is trying to imitate Tintin, they're probably smuggling narcotics. So the leader will jabber to Tidus in that language and Tidus will bark back at him. But then, "??????" will appear and finally start speaking English again! She'll tell Tidus that he can be fed if he becomes their slave. And guess what your task is? To dive under the water in search of ancient treasure (or in her words "Machina.") She'll join the party now, and you'll have control of Tidus again. Save your game and pick up an "Al Bhed Primer vol. I." This supposedly makes letters appear in pink when you meet the people who speak the annoying language. Maybe this is a translator? Hmm... Now, talk to the dude on the left near the Save Point for two Potions. Now, go to the edge of the boat where "??????" is standing and talk to her. She'll teach you how to use the Sphere Grid. When you're done, use that Ability Sphere you won in the previous battle to teach Tidus the Cheer ability. This allows Tidus to raise everyone's attack and defense by a negligible amount. Total waste, Square, but at least Tidus knows an actual ability now. Too bad though, the infinitely cooler "??????" knows TWO. Ha-ha-ha, Tidus. You lose again.

So jump into the water. The only enemies you'll fight here are Piranhas. They can come solo or in pairs. And sometimes they team up to form a school of Pirhanas that have more HP. They're also pathetically weak. Have "??????" Steal and Use Grenades, and have Tidus just attack physically. They'll usually drop a Power Sphere. Use one of these IMMEDIATELY on "??????" in her section of the Sphere Grid (she doesn't need a level for this). Her Max HP will increase by 200! TWO HUNDRED AT THIS POINT IN THE GAME? That's a gift, folks. They also give a laughable 1 AP apiece, but Tidus should gain his first few levels quickly enough.

Remember how I told you about how all your Potion problems would be over soon? Well, press the square button to get back up onto the boat and talk to the dude who gave you Potions before. He'll give you another two of them! Now, go down in the water and back out and he'll keep giving them to you! Once you get 99 Potions, or when you get tired of "??????" saying "We'll go as soon as you're ready!" move on.

Follow the chain (which is presumably that ship's anchor) into what looks like a sunken... something. Just follow the path. There's a save point here. Follow "??????'s" instructions. During your time here, you'll face a forced fight fending four Pirhanas (alliteration is funny). Then you'll eventually fight the next boss: Tros.

File:Peter Griffin.jpg
You know, this is what I feel like when I try to learn how to say "oui" in Al Bhed.
It ain't no...garden variety...SQUID???

Tros? What kind of names does Square GIVE these bosses? And you thought Woolsey sucked at translation. Somehow I bet this is actually Ultros from Final Fantasy VI. He looks like a cephalapod anyway, which is what Ultros was. Anyway, this guy can actually deal some damage, but just have Tidus use physicals and have "??????" chuck some Grenades (how the hell they work underwater is beyond me). After taking enough damage, Tros will run around the room to the opposite corner. You now get to use a new feature here: Trigger Commands, which only appear in certain battles. For now, choose the Trigger Commmand Stand By. Tidus and "??????" will regain 50 HP. After this, Tros will use his special, Nautilus Charge, which'll deal heavy damage to both Tidus AND "??????". Eventually, a new trigger command, Pincer Attack (yet ANOTHER FFVI reference!), will be available. Use it. This stops Nautilus Charge from happening. Keep hacking at it and it'll go down.

After the fight, keep following "??????"'s instructions. You'll eventually be back on that boat. Tidus will be left alone, but "??????" will kick him (how pretentious) and give him some food. I don't even want to know what that is on his tray, because it looks like old people food. She'll now introduce herself as Rikku. Rikku, huh? That, for your information, is a BOY's name in Japan. See my Woolsey comment above. She'll tell you that she and her companions are members of an Al Bhed tribe. Of course you don't even know what that is, so she'll teach you a bit of the language. To say "You" in the Al Bhedian language, you have to say "Oui, oui." So how do you say "me?" "Doo doo?" Hang on for a minute, I have to take a break from writing this walkthrough because I have to take a wicked "You!"

Anyway, Rikku will be telling Tidus all these weird terms neither him or you have ever heard of. Such as Yevon, Spira, and the fact that Zanarkand doesn't exist anymore. Suddenly, the ship will rock. Sin is nearby! He'll throw Tidus overboard. You can save your game here. Anyway, onto part 3!
