This is it! The first climax in the game. This is like the Floating Continent or the Whirlwind Maze, yo. And here we are already!
[edit] EEEEK! It's the terrorists again!
When you're ready to leave the Travel Agency, do it. Talk to Rin first though and go through the scenes with him. When you're ready, equip lightning elemental weapons and go outside. The really fidgety Guado, Tromell, grabs Yuna and starts escorting her away towards where that annoying Seymour is: in Macalania Temple. But we're not going there yet. Anyway Yuna leaves the party, at least for a moment (they have to follow "Guado tradition," whatever that is). What racists, those Guadoes. Yuna is scared, but Auron promises everyone'll be there as collateral. Yes, even Tidus, who does that really annoying whistle to Yuna.
But there's a rumble again. It's the Al Bhed! It looks like they've decided to crash the wedding! Yuna rejoins the party and Auron escorts Tromell to safety. For the first time since that early part of the game, we see that dude who was apparently the Al Bhed leader! He threatens to seal your Magic and Aeons! He then brings out a machine which resembles the Guardian from the greatest game in this series. It's called the Crawler. Fight time!
You get Yuna back for this fight, and boy do you need her. The Crawler begins by launching a Negator, which is just like the Speck from Final Fantasy VI. It doesn't attack. Instead it just floats there on constant Runic standby. Unlike the Speck, though, the Negator has its ass for defense. Wakka should easily be able to snipe it down. All you can Steal from it is Hi-Potions anyway, so it's not like you're missing much.
Anyway, even though the Crawler looks like the Guardian, it has more of the Air Force's attacks (although it's just weak to lightning, while the Air Force was weak to both lightning AND water). You can Steal Lunar Curtains from the Crawler in case you ran out. As for its attacks, well, it has a powerful physical counterattack which it uses after it gets hit with, well a physical. Stick with Lulu and Thundara here. It also uses Gatling Gun, which deals 8 random physical damage. Eventually, you'll see the Crawler say "Mana Beam in 3 turns!" As your feeble mind can figure out, this means it starts counting down to when it casts Mana Beam, which is a massive non-elemental attack against everyone. You want to disable it before this. Occasionally, it'll launch another Negator for Wakka to take down. I suggest having Yuna summon Ixion and using his Overdrive once you see Crawler's HP getting low (and there's no Negator). You'll win an Elixir from this battle, and its weapon drops could have Alchemy on them, which doubles the effect of medicine in battle.
Apparently this dude knows Rikku's father, and starts jabbering (in Al Bhed of course, but by now you should have enough knowledge to translate most of this gibberish) that he'll tell on her. Rikku shouts back that she is Yuna's Guardian and that Yuna is safe (also in Al Bhed). Rikku then explains herself to everyone. Everyone understands. Except Wakka, who wonders why Rikku knew Al Bhed. And this makes Wakka seem all the idiot. Because only after Rikku tells him she's Al Bhed does Wakka know this. She also says that that guy was her brother. Wakka and Rikku then start a long rabble-rabble-rabble, in which Rikku completely pwns Wakka.
Auron smartly breaks up the shouting match by showing everyone snowmobiles. He wants to ride them to the temple, which gets Wakka even more pissed. Tidus then (temporarily) abandons his assclownish ways and tries to get Wakka to behave himself. But it's Lulu who convinces him to play along.
Now, you'll get a scene while you ride the snowmobile. I don't know if it's random or not who you get, but I've had Lulu, Kimahri, and Rikku be my passenger on various playthroughs. If you get Lulu, and you most likely will, you'll have a chat about Wakka and Chappu and why he hates the Al Bhed so much. Tidus also asks Lulu a hypothetical question about whether a human can become Sin, and Lulu says that no one ever wondered that. Everyone just accepted the facts. But it looks like Lulu is interested in the truth. And I hope I'm right. If you ride with Rikku, she'll reveal (how the hell does she know this at all) that she's Yuna's cousin (and don't you just HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE how she calls Yuna "Yunie?" That's possibly the worst nickname I ever heard). She'll then give Tidus a hug. Well, they DO make a cute couple. The rest of us will get some real tail from real women. Kimahri will talk about how he knows Rikku doesn't mean any harm to Yuna.
Don't go in the cave just yet! There are some items you can get in the area you missed in the snowmobile ride. Keep in mind that you don't have Yuna in your party here, so you're stuck with Hi-Potions and the like to heal. I think there's a Save Point at one of the ends, so use that. If you're in doubt, you may want to run. Although this'll make you miss out on experience which you'll need for the next area. There are two chests here. One has a Mega-Potion and the other has a Level 1 Key Sphere. There are no new enemies here. Just get the items, and enter the north cave.
[edit] Seymour's betrayal
Except it's not really a cave! It's like a floating passage. A guy on this path will give you 400 Gil. Just follow the path to the entrance to the temple.
ZTOOOOOOOOP!!!!
What is that woman doing here with those swirly eyes? You know her type is not allowed in this sector! They won't let Rikku in! Auron will make sure they let all of Yuna's guardians in, although I probably would've preferred Auron go in alone and have everyone else, Rikku included, stay outside. Talk to everyone, but avoid Shelinda for now. You'll get...wedding presents! Tromell has a Shell Targe for Rikku, which is very valuable to have for a poor weakling like wittle Weaku. The Monk's Chamber has some guys with an Ether and an Elixir. The Nuns will give you 2 Hi-Potions. If you look around in the chests you'll find 5,000 Gil in the lobby, 3 Phoenix Downs in the Monk's room, and 2 Remedies in the Nun's Room. When you're ready talk to Shelinda.
Tidus will ask where Yuna went, and Shelinda will tell you that she's in the Cloister of Trials with Seymoron. Just then, there is an interruption! A nun finally discovered Jyscal's sphere! Auron is intrigued, so let's find out what's up. Jyscal reveals what we've been waiting to hear for about 14 parts of this walkthrough: Seymour's true intentions. He is dangerous and is using Yevon, the Guadoes, and all of Spira. He then says that Seymour will kill him and take his place as Maester, which is exactly what happens. He blames it entirely on himself, but he wants you to stop him. At last, we can finally kill that idiot!
Everyone but Wakka agrees to barge into the Cloister of Trials to rescue Yuna, but Wakka thinks Seymour's will is more important than Yuna. He's so fundie he's willing to betray his own friends, the bastard. He swore to protect Yuna, not uphold Yevon's will! Lulu to the rescue again! She drags Wakka away and Kimarhi beats up the monk who's guarding the Cloister of Trials. Everyone goes deeper into the temple!
Okay, this is the easiest Cloister of Trials ever. Just walk straight over the bridge, and you're done!
Lo and behold, it's Seymour. He makes everyone shut up because Yuna's praying. Yuna comes out, and Tidus says that they all saw Jyscal's sphere. Seymour admits that he killed Jyscal, and doesn't seem the least bit remorseful, the bastard. Yuna reveals that she accepted the marriage only so she can talk to Seymour about this. Seymour now intends to kill everyone. At last, it's time to fight... Seymour!
Seymour is flanked by two Guado Guards. Tidus, Yuna, and Wakka can all Talk to Seymour for a stat boost. The Guado Guards will heal themselves and Seymour if any of them are damaged with Hi-Potions, which heal for 1,000 HP. Steal from them to disable this (you'll pick up either a Hi-Potion or an Ether in the process). The Guado Guards will then focus on casting buffs on Seymour, and the big cheese'll cast Shell on himself. You can Steal a common Turbo Ether from him and a rare Elixir. Once the Guado Guardians are down, focus on Seymour. Seymour is pretty dangerous because he uses a continuous attack of spells. Once he's taken enough damage, he'll summon the badass thing he used back in Luca! It's Anima, the dark Aeon only he can use!
The game now wants you to Summon Yuna's new Aeon, who we'll just call "??????" even though you know pretty well what his name really is just by looking at him. But first, I think we'll Steal from Anima a few times. She (yes, Anima is female) has a common Silence Grenade and a rare Farplane Shadow. We'll talk more about the Farplane Shadows later when regular enemies drop them, but it's good to get a stock up somewhat. After that, start pummeling Anima with your own Aeons. You need to watch out for Pain, which instantly kills a character or Aeon, and you can't let Anima's Overdrive gauge charge up unless you want to die a gruesome, painful death at the hands of Oblivion. Murder Anima using your own Overdrives and Aeons and hope you kill it before it uses Oblivion. Have Yuna revive anyone who fell to Pain.
But it's not over yet! Seymour still wants to fight! Now, he's REALLY hard. He starts spamming Level 3 (that's right, Level 3) spells at you! Just focus on healing and try to Overkill him because he drops Black Magic Spheres! These awesome items allow ANY character to learn ANY Black Magic spell someone else knows! Save these for a good time! Seymour's weapon drops allow a character to ALWAYS hit with Silence and his armor drops provide Silence Immunity. You'll also finally get to meet Yuna's new Aeon, who you should've already recognized as Shiva, the God of the Ice.
Seymour is dead. Maester Seymour is finally dead...but wait! Tromell comes in and Tidus tries to explain what happened, but Tromell will have none of it. He still adores Seymour and won't let Yuna send him. He brands everyone as traitors, too! This doesn't look good for us!
Uh-oh, the bridge is out! Looks like we have work to do here! This is a very annoying Sphere puzzle. Go down the ramp and push the pedestal into the block of ice. Take the Macalania Sphere out of its hole and put it in the pedestal. Push the pedestal into the ice block that guards the ramp down. Then, look inside one of the pillars for a Glyph Sphere. Take it out. Go down the ramp to the lowest level and push the pedestal into the pillar hanging from the ceiling. This restores one part of the bridge. Now, put the Glyph Sphere into the hole all the way to the left. This makes another Macalania Sphere rise up. Put that Macalania Sphere into the pillar that rises up from the lowest level to make another part of the bridge reappear. Finally, take the last Macalania Sphere out of its hole (the ramp to the lowest level will disappear) and put it in the remaining pillar to make the last piece of the bridge restore.
The bridge is now fully restored and a floor switch appears on it. Before leaving, we have to find the temple's treasure! Go up to the bridge and step on the floor switch to bring the pedestal up to you. The bridge will be destroyed, though. Push the pedestal (keep the Macalania Sphere in it) down the ramp and it'll come back to you, except the Macalania Sphere is now a Destruction Sphere. Take it out and push the pedestal down again. Put the Destruction Sphere in one of the open holes you see for now. Then, use the Macalania Spheres to put the Ice Blocks and the ramp to the lowest level back up. Step on the floor switch to bring the pedestal back to its original position. Push the pedestal back down to the lowest level by having it break the Ice Blocks. Now, go get the Destruction Sphere and put it in the hole on the lowest level you didn't use for anything yet. This'll make a chest with a Luck Sphere appear. Now, put the bridge back together and walk across it back to the Temple lobby.
Tromell won't consider listening to your side of the story. Rikku suggests showing Jyscal's Sphere to Tromell, but he just smashes the Sphere to bits like he supported Seymour's decision to kill his father and that Jyscal had it coming. "The Guado deal with Guado affairs" is his reasoning, but obviously they didn't this time, so the righteous had to step in. Anyway, time for an escape.
[edit] Escape!
You'll now have to escape the temple, and it won't be easy! Guado Guards will chase after you, and if you encounter one of them, they'll start summoning Fiends to attack you! The enemies won't be anything new, just the enemies you're used to facing around here. But they're still hard battles. Save your game at every Save Point you get, and go for maximum physical defense on your equips. If Yuna doesn't know Dispel yet, fight enemies until she does. It makes the next boss fight THAT much easier. When you reach Lake Macalania, you'll fight the next boss: the Wendingo!
Unlike some sasquatches which answer to the Moogle, this one seems to answer to the Guado. The Guado Guards flanking it will cast Haste and Berserk on the Wendingo, making it ultra-deadly with its physicals. If you're feeling bold, you can Steal Hi-Potions or a rare X-Potion from either the Guado Guards or the Wendingo. Get rid of the Guado Guards pronto. They'll cast Protect and Shell on the Wendingo when they die. IMMEDIATELY have Yuna cast Dispel at this point. Wendingo's attacks are still very powerful though, even though it strictly uses physical attacks. Have Yuna cast Protect immediately on all party members, or have Rikku use her Mix Overdrive to mix a pair of Lunar Curtains or Light Curtains. You'll get the benefit of Super Mighty G, which is like having a pair of Marvel Shoes on your party. Haste, Protect, Shell, and Regen on everyone! This makes the fight a lot easier. If Wendingo puts up its dukes, do NOT attack it; it'll use a nasty counterattack in this situation. Eventually it should fall though. It drops some nice weapons and armor though. It's weapon drops allow you to counterattack any physical, and its armor drops bost HP by 10%!
But the Wendingo has one last trick up his sleeve! He'll punch the ice, knocking your entire party into the submerged ruins underneath the lake!
It's time for a long, long chat with all your party members. There's a chest underwater with a Level 2 Key Sphere and an Avenger for Tidus at the top of the map, so look for those. Now, I'm wondering how the hell everyone can breathe underwater. I know Tidus and Wakka can, because they're Blitzballers, but the others? Hmmm...
Anyway, Wakka will talk about how he's pissed he's been branded a traitor. Him, a Yevon-fearing citizen of the world...a traitor? What's going on? Creaku will start to idolize Lulu and find out when she'll be like her. Tidus tries to help find a way out, and Kimarhi helps him out, however, Rikku interrupts again. Kimahri says Rikku needs to just be herself (which I wouldn't want to do if I were Rikku). Yuna then explains what happened. She used the marriage as a coverup to confront Seymour about Jyscal. Yuna would've married Seymour in exchange for Seymour turning himself in, but stubborn Seymour refused. Auron says that they now have to defy Yevon and reach Zanarkand. The Fayth, not the church, decides who can go onto Zanarkand. Auron decides to lead the party to Bevelle, the capital of Spira. Everyone gets edgy, but Lulu calms everyone down and has them listen to the Hymn of the Fayth. But eventually it stops, and Sin attacks! Everyone gets scattered, and Tidus finally realizes Sin is Jecht! Well, that concludes the first half of our journey. Time for a little break, no?
