Final Fantasy X

"In the Final Fantasy universe, a boy can be represented by two separate, yet equally important personalities. A narrator who speaks in a deep voice and a whiney crybaby. This is his story. DOINK! DOINK!"

[edit] So, is this your whole party... or what?

Meet Christopher Tidus. Now I don't know why they keep putting him in games. From what I know he's everyone's least favorite main character.

The game starts out rather unusally for a Final Fantasy. A selection of perpetually random characters sitting around the campfire, showcasing Squaresoft's supreme graphics work. The hero of the story, Christopher Tidus (does anyone else miss the show "Titus?" I found that show fucking hilarious) asks you to listen to his story. Heck, you're forced to! You paid for the game didn't you? Anyway...

[edit] Sin City

The game starts out in the mechatropolis Zanarkand, filled with cancer-inducing blue lights and dizzifying tower blocks. After more Square graphics showcasing, the camera zooms in on a kind of house boat, where people without jobs have gathered. It turns out, they are waiting for the star blitzball player of the Zanarkand Abes, yes, you guessed it; Tidus (or if you're fucked in the head, you've probably named him Elton or Fergie). After five minutes, you are finally in control of your character, and at first he might strike you as a bit conceited. Talk to the people around you to get further, and envy him for having gone through college by only playing sports. However, one of the fans around the place is...weird. Easily played by Haley Joel Osment in the non-existent film adaptation (and you should know all the little boys in this game sound like they have a friggin' cold -CSM), the little kid says puzzling words to Tidus, but of course, he just shrugs it off like so much ADD behaviour. After talking around to the peeplez, one of which can only speak with letters, you're brushed off to the Blitzball stadium.

Upon leaving the screen, a huge banner/screen on one of the buildings shows a picture of Jack Sparrow...or so it would seem. It is Jecht, Tidus' father, with whom he shares a troubled past. In a strange take off Stranger than Fiction (which was strangely made after the release of FFX), the road to the Blitzball stadium is being narrated by one of the resident red herrings of the game, the game commentator Zanar. Pay close attention to Zanar's words of wisdom, as they will make sense later. If you talk to the people on the way, you will find the only person in the game who refers to Tidus by name. One of them will give you several Potions. While you let the huge Megacity feeling sink in, you'll probably find your way to the stadium unless your IQ is below 10.

Now, finally! It is time for the first FMV of the game, and what a spectacular one it is! It shows Blitzball, only entirely different from the actual in-game Blitzball. Make sure you enjoy this impressive bit of imagery, preferrably enjoying a tooth-decaying drink! However, about halfways, in one of Tidus' signature flipshots (?), he sees something. A huge bubble of dark portent! The bubble attacks Zanarkand, and Tidus barely escapes the barrage.

Now THIS is more like it....

Back on Ground Zero, he meets one of the main characters of the game, shortly glimpsed in the preceding feature FMV; Auron, a mysterious character straight out of the Matrix. He tells Tidus about the bubble, which is called Sin. While he does not explain why it destroys, he goes to fight together with the enemy with Tidus. After more puzzling words from the scary Haley Joel kid, while time has stopped, the first fight ensues, only 30 minutes after the start of the game! You've played Final Fantasy before right? Then you know what to do! Fight the small creepy Sahagin-style enemies called Sinscales using the Attack command! Just kill the ones in front of you, blocking the way, and you'll be alright. Just keep going ahead, and you will meet your first "boss": Sinspawn Ammes.

You know, I think this probably was Sin's wang at one point.

This huge tentacled pillar is a major pushover; since it only uses Demi, which reduces your HP to a percentage of your current HP. You can never die, unless you would be an idiot and attack yourself. It is here when the bad ass Auron introduces one of the major innovations of FFX: The Overdrive. You see that little gauge underneath your HP/MP showcasings? That is the Overdrive bar, similar to FFVII's Limit Break Gauge. How the gauge fills is up to you, and depends on how you use the character in question. Anyway...it is time to show the Sinspawn the true power of the Force! Press left on the D-pad upon Auron's turn, and choose Overdrive/Dragon Fang. After a cool little charging sequence, some buttons will appear on your screen! Press the buttons in said sequence before the time limit reaches zero, and you will unleash your furious Dragon Fang Kung Fu attack, which will most likely kill the small Sinscale pricks as well as dealing massive damage to the boss. Just keep attacking, since you cannot lose, and this pillar will eventually fall.

After the fact, go to the blue spherical object you see. This is a save point, which will let you save your game, as well as replenish all of your character's HP and MP (no Tents or Cabins required!). Continue going ahead after this, and you will eventually be caught in the middle of an army of Sinscales. Time to look around for an emergency exit. After fighting the Sinspawn back some, Auron will divert your attention to the precariously placed wagon thing on the ledge there. So, attack that instead of Sinspawn by choosing it as a target. After some hits, it will fall down and explode, and almost taking you down together with the bridge. After a jump Morpheus would be proud of, Tidus will be at the mercy of Auron, who doesn't seem to want to pull him up. He is seemingly speaking to that monstrous Sin thing, and tells Tidus that this is his story. He is then absorbed into Sin, which looks pretty painful.

[edit] The life aquatic with Christopher Tidus

Now, after that mind-blowing and possibly seizure-provoking dissolve scene, Tidus wakes up underwater. Tidus is seemingly related to Guybrush Threepwood, and can hold his breath for untold centuries. Don't let the bad camera that doesn't let you see where you are get in your way! Use the circle (O) button to dive deeper into the water, and head for the platform in the middle. If you've gone too deep, stop moving, and Tidus will start to surface. Eventually you will get there, where he will see a little kid underwater. The plot sickens!
