Walkthrough:Final Fantasy X-2/Walkthrough/TSD/Part 4

The irony indeed. The cookies are burning. I love cookies. Why don't I care that they are burning? Because I hate raisin cookies. I only like chocolate chip cookies. They're the best. The cookies are burning, and I, TSD, for one am not going to save them.
[edit] Al Bhed Primers, Luca and sphere breaking contests
You know the one thing which sucks about Luca? Wait, sorry, THREE things suck about Luca. The first is Blitzball. I'm not covering that game in this walkthrough. I was interested for about half an hour, then I just gave up. The second thing that sucks about Luca? It only has TWO treasure chests. The third thing to suck about Luca? It doesn't have any item shop. At least, not any that I can find.
Other than that, Luca's pretty fine by me.
When you select Luca, you'll be taken straight into a cutscene. I know, I skipped Kilika, but that's at the end of this chapter. If you go there now you'll only get a few cutscenes and some more items, but that's about it.
Let's see, what happened here...oh yeah, um, Yuna's section(?) of the GG was stolen by LeBlanc. LeBlanc used it to impersonate Yuna and puts up a concert. I really wonder what she would've gained by doing that concert. I mean, other than shitloads of gil. And people are asking for Yuna's autograph. Well, it's not every day you meet a living high summoner, I guess. One that held a concert too. Oh well.
Yuna then tells us how Rikku and Paine came to be at that concert in Luca at the very beginning. It appears that when Yuna's GG got stolen by LeBlanc, the Gullwings chased the thieves all the way to Luca, but when YRP went to get the GG back.....yeah, we all know what happened.
So, now we're stuck in a flashback. And it also turns out that Yuna was forced to wear the "Gullwings Prized Garment", otherwise known as the Mascot DS, the best normal DS in the game. Naturally, you won't be getting it now, you'll get it at the end of the game after a LOT of work. So now you get to control Yuna in the Mascot DS. You can talk to a few people around if you want, but in the end just go down the stairs leading to Luca's plaza area.
Fun Fact: You can jump down the stairs.
Back to the present, Rikku asks Yuna what she did after Rikku and Paine left to get the GG back. Yuna turns around and says "Top secret!" It's top secret to Rikku and Paine, but not top secret to either you or me.
In the plaza, we see Yuna striking some weird pose at the top of the stairs leading to the previous area(yeah I forgot what it's called). Then she walks down into the plaza, and some dude tells her to "get over here". Since we got nothing else to do we might as well go. The guy then gives Yuna a bunch of balloons and tells her not to screw up. So now we gotta hand out all those balloons to people in the plaza. I'll start with the hardest. Head north from where you got the balloons. You should see a red carpet. Run up this carpet to find a guy who'll take a balloons. Yes, sir, filling quotas is a PITA.
Past the red carpet area, you should see a screen-covered window at the top of some stairs. Run up the stairs and press X to pull up the screen and reveal two people hiding for fear that you might give them balloons. Well then we should do just that. Also, is it me or is the guy on the left Graav from the Luca Goers? That guy was a BITCH to get past in X! Well, whatever. Now that we've gotten the three hardest, all the rest are in plain sight and easy to find. The girl running around with a balloon and a guy running around in green won't take your balloons, but you don't need them since we already gave away three of our balloons. Talk to people after giving them balloons for some REALLY funny reactions. My personal favourite is "Don't push it, puffball." And is that guy/girl standing at the balloon cart Deim from the Kilika Beasts?
So, after giving away your entire stock of balloons, you score(........) the Healing Wind GG, Rikku calls Yuna and repeats the first line in the game. "Y, R, P. In position. It's showtime, girls." Seriously, she sounds like Britney Spears when she says that! So then, remember that person in that moogle suit that was nice enough to heal us at the beginning of the game? Yup, that was Yuna. Then, Logos walks past, and Yuna then transforms into her Gunner outfit and goes to help Rikku and Paine. And now we know the full story.
Mission over, we're zapped up to the Airship. Hey, wait, we haven't gotten the items yet! So then get back to Luca. I'd suggest you now take the time to equip new GG on your girls. The "Protection Halo" which you got in Besaid(I forgot to mention it earlier, but whatever), I personally think should go onto your Songstress/White Mage so that she isn't completely defenseless. "Vanguard" should stay on your Black Mage/Warrior, and as for your Thief, IMO, the "Protection Halo" should go onto her. You should also decide which DS you want your Thief to start mastering after she has mastered the Thief. I'd suggest the Black Mage. After doing all that, save.
Now go down the same stairs you did in the flashback. You see the chest? Climb onto the ledge, then jump to the chest, which contains two Lunar Curtains. Lunar Curtains rock in this game! They cast Shell on the entire party in one turn, at no MP cost, when a White Mage would need three turns and 30 MP to do it.
So go into the plaza, and head to the south. This leads to a bridge. Run along it until you reach a fork. Just ignore the one leading to the top of the screen for now and keep going forward. This leads to the Blitzball stadium. Our destination would be the locker room on the right side of the stairs, but before you go there, first go through the exit on the right side of the screen to reach Dock 5 of Luca. Move down the dock to have the camera pan down and reveal the second chest in Luca at the end of the dock. Open the chest for the Thunder Spawn GG. When equipped, it allows you to absorb Thunder elemental attacks.
Now that we've gotten the GG, we're free to go to the locker room. And Rin's inside. After a cutscene of greetings, introducing Sphere Break, and whatnot, Rin leaves us with Al Bhed Primer XXII and an invitation to join the upcoming inaugural Sphere Break tournament in Luca. Which we will.
If you want to know more about Sphere Break, go to the other locker room on the other side of the stairs. The little guy in purple will tell you all you need to know about Sphere Break. When you select the option "Tell me the rules!", he'll give you 5 Helm Coins, 5 Zurvan Coins, 5 Coyote Coins and 5 Flan Coins. Then just read up all you want. And that concludes Luca for Chapter 1.
[edit] The Mi'ihen Highroad
Oh god, the Mi'ihen Highroad. I still remember my very first time travelling down this road. About halfway through I was practically screaming "When will it end?!" Okay, fine, so the Highroad isn't that long. But it's still long nonetheless.
Enter the Highroad from Luca to get a cutscene. I'm not sure what happens if you enter from the airship, since I've never done that. Yuna recounts her journey along this road on her pilgrimage. That cutscene...yup, you guessed it, it gives you completion percentage, so you can't skip it.
After the cutscene, you have two ways of travelling along the Highroad. Either you pay 30 gil for a hover, or you go on foot. Paying 30 gil for that hover saves you a lot of time, but you miss a ton of items and the opportunity to level up and learn a few abilities. We're not afraid of the fiends are we? SO we're walking!
Save at the SS. Then go right for a chest containing 2 Phoenix Downs. And you don't have to worry about the machina, they're actually there to watch out for fiends. Problem is, they only watch out for the bigger fiends. If they were programmed to attack smaller ones, they'd be attacking people travelling down the road on foot. Talk to the people on the Highroad if you want, but no one's going to give you anything. They will give you info about the Highroad since Yuna and Co. beat Sin though.
Push that analog stick forward until Yuna reaches that big machina tower Maechen told us about in X. Run up the slope into the tower, and open that chest in there for 500 gil. Not much, but every little counts, doesn't it? Now get back on the road and run until you see another small field on the right. In this is yet another chest, open it for a Circlet. I say you equip this accessory on either your Warrior/Black Mage or Songstress/White Mage. Now run forth into the next stretch of road.
This second area is shorter, but whatever. About halfway up the road, you should see a chest in plain sight. Open it for two Antidotes. No more chests here, so just keep going into the next area.
In this third area, immediately on your left there should be a chest in yet another dirt field. Open this for two Holy Waters. About 45% of the way up this stretch, turn to your right and you should see a woman with some machina and a chest in another one of the many small dirt fields on the Highroad. Open the chest for a couple of Potions, and talk to the lady to find out about an experiment on the machina to see if they can be synchronized(yeah, I don't know how to spell that). Interesting. Well, get back on the road and to your left, there should be a chest holding an Iron Bangle. It really doesn't matter whom you give this to.
| Item | Cost |
| Potion | 50 gil |
| Phoenix Down | 100 gil |
| Antidote | 50 gil |
| Eye Drops | 50 gil |
| Echo Screen | 50 gil |
| Soft | 50 gil |
| Holy Water | 300 gil |
| Iron Bangle | 500 gil |
| Silver Bracer | 500 gil |
| Gauntlets | 2500 gil |
| Tiara | 2500 gil |
Nothing more of any interest on this part of the Highroad, so keep going. The next area is.....The Mi'ihen Highroad branch of Rin's Travel Agency. First go left for a chest with some Eye Drops in it, then save at the SS. Go into the Travel Agency if you want items, but you shouldn't need them. Prices on the right. You can also rent a hover from here, but there're still some more items to collect and fiends to kill.
In the next area, we cross two bridges to a woman watching a machina on a land island. Open the chest near her for a Potion, and talk to the lady. She doesn't give you anything but a pop quiz, but if you answer wrong, her answers are hilarious. You can try again if you fail until you get the second correct answer, which is "Hovers?"
Moving on, we reach a stretch of road shaped a bit like an "S". Here, at the first bend there's a chest with two Phoenix Downs. Nothing else here, so keep pushing that left analog stick forward.
OH GOD FINALLY THE END OF THE ROAD!!!!!!!!! If you want, you can just go through the gate on to Mushroom Rock Road, but there are more items to collect. As you go towards the gate, a chest containing two Budget Grenades awaits your thieving hands. Go down the exit to the left for more items.
There's a guy in purple, but don't worry, he won't attack you with the Dark Aeons or anything. Grab that chest at the end for a Mana Spring. Save at the SS, take those Echo Screens in that chest, then go down the dead-end path for two Softs. There're two men at the end, but they don't matter. Not right now.
Now go back to the gate, and move on to Mushroom Rock Road.
[edit] Mushroom Rock Road
Wow, three locations on one page. Must be some kind of record. Except, of course, for the ones on gamefaqs. Anyway, welcome to Mushroom Rock Road, the site of the infamous Operation Mi'ihen. I'm glad that I didn't take Highwind up on his offer of how much I wanted to bet that they all got killed.
Save at the SS. The opening cutscene chows LeBlanc's top goons entering the Road. Follow them into another cutscene..........I have nothing else to say. Yaibal of the Youth League greets you. For those who don't know how Yaibal knows Yuna, go to YouTube, and search for the "Eternal Calm".
Select the option that means that you know who Yaibal is. I don't know whether or not it affects your completion percentage, but better safe than sorry, and agree to help with their fiend problem. But as you know, all NPCs in FF X and X-2 are wimps anyway. Look at X, in which a hundred Crusaders couldn't take out an Ochu, but a newbie summoner and her guardians did it in about five minutes. Speak with the other Youth League members if you want to. Before following Clasko, run up the road past the Youth League until you see a fork in the road. In this fork, you should see a green dot. Take the stone up to the statue of Lord Mi'ihen, and open the chest for 1000 gil.
Now run back to Clasko, and speak with everyone once more for completion percentage. Clasko tells us that all he actually wants is just to ride a Chocobo. Yeah, yeah, whatever. And look, he abandons us in the next screen. I'm not joking, he's told to show us the way, and all he does is show us the way to the water-stone lift leading to Mushroom Rock. We're lucky we've got guides, because he's totally useless. Anyway, all we have to do is to get across Mushroom Rock, but we take a little detour on the way. Also, watch out for Tonberries. Their only attack is "Chef's Knife", and it only causes about 100-150 HP, but they're fast and persistant. And the fact that they have 9999 HP means that your patience(and possibly your Potion stock) will run out before you beat them. Fortunately, they're rare. If you really, really want to beat them, wait till Chapter 5. Although the Ethers they carry are somewhat worth the trouble.
On Mushroom Rock, all you have to do is follow your mini-map. There are no items here. About 1/3 of the way in, you walk into a cutscene showing the goons jumping down into a ravine which wasn't accessible in FF X(Forgive me if cutscene is non-existant, I can't remember if there is a cutscene there or not). Jump down the cascading rocks. In the first area, there should be two pillars next to each other. Beside them is a chest, which holds a Turbo Ether. The next chest contains a Phoenix Down. When the camera angle looks down, move to the screen's top-left and you should see a chest. If not, keep searching for it. The contents of the third and final chest consists of a Hi-Potion. Save at the SS.
Run into the tunnel and straight into a cutscene. LeBlanc's two henchmen are apparantly trying to open a door, and when our girls surprise them, they grab the spheres they had with them and make a smoke-bomb exit. And how generous of them. Not only are they going to "inform the boss", they also left a gift behind. I'm not exactly sure if you can watch Crimson Sphere 9 right there and then, but Maroda appears. It really doesn't matter who he is, just that he's with the Youth League. He explains about the door, how it leads to the Den of Woe, and how it was sealed at around the time of Operation Mi'ihen. And how it can (supposedly) be opened by using the right combination of spheres. After that, he chases you out, because any more info and you might as well be in the Youth League itself.
So now all you have to do is to complete "Foggy Fiend Frenzy". Climb back out of the ravine and get to the water lift at the other end of Mushroom Rock. Then run straight to the lift, where you're greeted by........Elma and some Youth League guards who now worship you for getting past all the fiends that aren't even worth using as toilet paper. Once again, here is an example of NPC weakness. Anyhow, a few sentences about how things have changed in the past two years, and you are now allowed to use the lift. A Mission Complete! screen is awarded to you, along with a Glass Buckle and the "Heart of Flame" GG. This GG, when equipped, allows you to absorb Fire attacks and cast "Fire". Run past the lift, to the south(on your map), and open the chest there for a Favourite Outfit. This accessory, when equipped, protects you against the "Itchy" status effect. "Itchy" prevents you from taking any action except to Spherechange, and the cure is simply to do that.
Step on the lift, press X, and you're up. Run forth into the Youth League HQ. After a short cutscene detailing a bit about the League, you're once again allowed control over Yuna. First off, see that small fork to your right on your map? Run to the right and guide Yuna to the fork using the map. Open the chest for the "Restless Sleep" GG, which allows you to use "Sleep" and "Bio" when equipped. Now climb back up the ledge and save at the SS. Then run up to the entrance of the building, where Lucil appears. She greets us, explains about how she is now the Commander of the Youth League forces and about how the leader of the League, Nooj has been wanting to meet with Yuna for some time. Too bad, though, that he's presently occupied with plans for some big mission. So we'll be back.
After the cutscene, talk to Lucil again for another cutscene. Didn't know there would be one, huh? This is just one of the many, many traps in FF X-2 which prevents you from getting 100% completion. Anyway, Lucil talks about how some members of the League, although somewhat untrustworthy, have been allowed by the meyvn(which means leader, and Nooj is the meyvn) to join because he doesn't turn anyone away. Spheres being stolen, unsaid plans, blah. I don't care about saying any more. No more cutscenes, so now talk to the old guy in green sitting on the ground. For laughs, stand behind him when you press X. He'll turn around without getting up. I laughed so hard when I first noticed this I nearly threw up my lunch.
And the old guy's turns out to be Maechen. You know, the old scholar from FF X. He offers to tell you a story. Although it is goddamn long, we have to sit through it for the % points. He talks about how Spira was in chaos after the lies of the Yevon church were revealed, how Trema, a former priest of Yevon, founded an organisation called the Seekers, who were sphere hunters hoping to find out more about Spira's history through the images recorded on the spheres from ages past. Then Trema suddenly took all the spheres they had collected and kept them for himself. Which is extremely selfish, I must say. Anyway, he had founded another group called New Yevon, which was actually not just a religon, but an actual way of life. Their motto being "One thing at a time", it brought relief to the people who were afraid of how much Spira was changing after Yuna defeated Sin, and brought New Yevon a ton of followers. But since New Yevon wouldn't give back the spheres Trema had taken from the Seekers, the Seekers got really mad. One of the Seekers was Nooj, who then formed the Youth League after leaving the Seekers, since he really disagreed with the things he saw while he was with Yevon. Apparantly, he was one of the few Crusaders which survived Opereation Mi'ihen. Anyway, the League soon grew and matched New Yevon in size. Done. If anything was left out, Maechen will tell you. Now run back to the SS and save, because we do not want to go through that kind of shit again.
Nothing left for us to do here, so we now backtrack all the way to where we met Yaibal. In this area, run down to the SS, then run to the right of the screen. Clasko should be there, and when you talk to him, he complains about how his whole life has been a failure so far. He then begs asks for a lift on our airship to the place where he can find his true calling. Kinda vague destination, if you ask me, but since this gives us completion percentage, pick "The more the merrier!". He thanks you and runs to the SS, where he presumably teleports up to the Celsius. Go to the SS yourself and save. Teleport up to the Celsius/Celcius/WHATEVER!
On board the Cel airship, go to the Cabin's upper floor and check on Clasko, who seems rather airsick. Which is why I don't often get up from my seat whenever I'm on a plane.
For the next location in Spira, go to the next page. I could put more here though.......nevermind that last one.
