Walkthrough:Final Fantasy X-2/Walkthrough/TSD/Part 2

From Final Fantasy Wiki

TSD's my name, and KH2's my game. I still love Final Fantasy X-2, however, and I'm even writing a walkthrough on it. In fact, you're reading it now! How weird is that?

[edit] Mission Time! Floating Ruins of Mt. Gagazet

So anyway, head out to where the rest of the Gullwings are gathered. You'll get a cutscene about the spherewave data Buddy said they received before you went down to the Engine Room under my directions. Turns out it's coming from-the top of Mt. Gagazet?! Well, that's a new area, what is it?

The game pretends to give you control by asking you to select a location to fly to. In case you didn't know, the World Map is gone. Nope, no more cross-country travelling. Instead, each area in Spira leads to another, with the exception of Besaid, Kilika and Bikanel Island. Yeah, all of Spira is just one location leading to another, with a "few" cutscenes thrown in in between. This also makes airship travel very limited. Instead of piloting the airship yourself, landing next to the specified town and running straight into the town to enter it from the World Map, you now have to go talk to the pilot or co-pilot and select from a list of destinations where you want to go, and then the pilot drops you off at a Save Sphere, since the Save Spheres are what you use to return to the airship.

How does the game pretend to give you control? Well, it asks you to select a location alright, but you can only select one location and that's the Floating Ruins mission in Gagazet. Also, I don't think you can go back to the bridge for this one, mainly because this mission is needed to allow you to continue the story. So just select the damn location and go.

Once you press X, you get a cutscene. This is starting to take on the appearance of "interactive movie". Then someone(I can't tell, it's either Yuna or Rikku, more likely Yuna) exclaims "Wow, the rocks are floating!" Well, what'd you expect? They ARE called the Floating Ruins. Then as we fly up the mountain, Rikku whines about having to climb all the way up there, but Buddy takes us to the very top of the ruins. And when you land, by some amazing homing ability, YRP somehow manages to land safely on a half-metre ledge of rock jutting out from the top! WTF? What do you think YOUR chances of landing on that rock safely would be? I know for sure that MINE would be really slim. Oh, and then Yuna looks down(why look down? Does it really matter that much?) and falls off the ledge, but luckily Rikku and Paine catch her. Anyway, Brother calls them and acts like the complete douchebag he is. When Yuna is finally pulled onto the ledge, Rikku reveals that she has invented a new word-"Disasterrific". In other words(ha ha ha), a combination of the words "Disaster" and "Terrific". Does that mean an excellent disaster, or a very bad disaster? That question will most likely never be answered.

After the cutscene just follow Rikku and Paine towards a gap in the rock which they jump over, but since they're being controlled by the game(on the field map), and we're controlling Yuna, Yuna isn't going to automatically jump over the gap. Oh no, what shall we do to get past that gap? We can't walk over it, and we don't have any way to jump, what shall we do?

Oh wait, you just have to hold down the O button as you run towards the gap. OK, fine, that was a cheap joke, but I'm sure it's one you could live with.

OK then you now approach a ledge which you're going to have to climb over. Do the same as you did with the gap and Yuna will climb over it. In many places in Spira, there will be gaps and ledges that you're going to have to jump and climb over. Holding down the O button continously will help you get over these places should you come across these places unexpectedly, as well as discover some secret ones.

So in the next gap to jump over, don't hold down the O button just yet. Instead, just drop down into the pit and open the chest for the "Yellow Ring" accessory, which halves lightning elemental dmg and allows the wearer to cast the Black Magic spell "Thunder" regardless of whether you have the Black Mage Dressphere equipped or not. NGP players who have better versions of this accessory should just sell it for some good gil. After opening the chest, climb back up the ledge and jump over to the other side.

ANOTHER cutscene! Goddammit those ATEs in Final Fantasy IX WERE irritating, mind you, but at least they weren't THAT frequent! Neither were Final Fantasy X's! Game would you just drop it with the cutscenes and let us kill something already? This one is of YRP reaching some steps and saying how they're never going to get to the sphere using the ONLY route the game has given them and us so far. Well, I'm all for Paine's suggestion: find another route.

Go down the steps and save at the sphere, not that you should need the heal. By the way, if you turned it off, turn on your mini-map. It's just plain stupid to turn off the mini-map if you're exploring a new area. Of course, in some areas, the mini-map's gone even if it's on in the Config menu. When this happens, familarize yourself with your surroundings. It's at times like this when the fact that the camera is non-controllable comes in handy.

Past the Save Sphere(from now on they will be called SS), you'll reach a dead end. Now, I don't agree with Paine's suggestion; we go on. What do you mean that we can't? Just push the damn button on the wall. There we go, all the way down. Now jump across the ledges to the waterfall and hop over the floating rocks in the foreground to a ledge on the left with a chest containing an Elixir(HELL YEAH), then jump back and climb up the ledges on the left to a suspended, cracked road.

Okay, fine, so I lied about not editing this. What the hell, at least you got your help/entertainment earlier. Before you go on, if you haven't already, learn the "Pilfer Gil" ability with your Thief. You're going to stumble in upon a boatload of gil, and the only way to get it is through either the "Pilfer Gil" ability or the "Nab Gil" ability from the Horn of Plenty GG.

Once you've got the ability, continue along the road, jumping once, until you get a cutscene(how many times have I written that word now). Turns out that LeBlanc and her gang were following you all the time. How is it that they knew where we were? Anyway, you've got another boss fight on your hands. Man, the stats for them are going to be total bitches to list.

Boss Battle: LeBlanc, Logos, Ormi

LeBlanc

HP: 120
MP: 320
Gil Stolen/Dropped: 700/250
Items Stolen/Dropped: Tiara(N&R*)/ Hi-Potion(N), Hi-Potion x2(R)
EXP: 20
AP: 2
Difficulty: (N)Easy/(NGP)Ditto

Logos

HP: 100
MP: 25
Gil Stolen/Dropped: 280/80
Items Stolen/Dropped: White Cape(N&R)/ Potion(N), Phoenix Down(R)
EXP: 20
AP: 1
Difficulty: (N)Easy/(NGP)Ditto

Ormi

HP: 130
MP: 10
Gil Stolen/Dropped: 280/80
Items Stolen/Dropped: Gauntlets(N&R)/ Potion(N), Phoenix Down(R)
EXP: 10
AP: 1
Difficulty: (N)Easy/(NGP)Ditto

*Note: From now on, "Normal" and "Rare" for "Items Stolen/Dropped" and "Difficulty" will be represented by "N" and "R" respectively.

Normal: Now do you see why I made you learn the "Pilfer Gil" ability before this? For this battle, it's best to concentrate your attacks on one person at a time. You have two choices for starting options: Logos or LeBlanc. Logos has the lowest HP, so you wouldn't have much of a problem depleting it, whereas LeBlanc's attacks hit the entire party. Whichever the case, command the Songstress to cast Darkness Dance, rob that person first, then attack(utilizing chain attacks, of course). Once Ormi's alone, simply attack him and heal if anyone gets below 50-60 HP. Don't, however, forget to break the 8th commandment, even if you're a Christian-a Tiara raises Magic and Magic Defense by 5, a White Cape protects against Silence, which prevents all spells and songs(from the Songstress DS), and the Gauntlets raise Strength and Defense by 5. AND you want that pool of gil, even if the pool is only 2 inches deep.

NGP: Relieve all three of their items and gil, then throw a bomb or just attack.

After the battle, the three stalkers run away and you've got to get to the top of the ruins before they do. A timer appears and it's for six minutes. Don't worry, if you're fast, you can make it to the top with all the accessories and have about a minute and a half left. The timer stops during battles and when you enter the Main Menu. As the mission screen comes on, look to the left of the screen. The Syndicate's entering the temple, so memorize where the entrance is. Run to the end of the road(no pun intended) to reach a chest with a Mega-Phoenix in it.

NOW here's why I love X-2's battle system: If two of the girls are KO'ed and you use a Mega-Phoenix with the third one, if she's KO'ed whiile using the Mega-Phoenix, you don't get a Game Over! It does become three KO's, but since the Mega-Phoenix was already in effect, she gets revived too. Same thing with multi-casting Curaga or using a Mega-Potion: if the one using it is damaged while casting/using it, she gets healed unless the enemy did more dmg to her than how much it heals for.

Now around the area of the chest, you should be able to see at least two tilted columns. DO NOT GO UP THESE COLUMNS. They lead to dead ends and there is nothing for you up there. Instead, beside the nearest column to the chest there should be a raised platform that lies beside the big crack in the roaod you went over to reach the chest. Climb up that, then go towards the temple entrance and get a cutscene in which Logos sends some Syndicate Goons towards you. You get boss battle music, but these aren't even worth stealing from. Just kill them and enter the temple.

Note: Whenever you get into a battle, you may encounter some big blue birds with gigantic beaks. These are Divebeaks. They only have 10HP and will do almost no damage at all to you. Despite the fact that they can be destroyed with just one attack, you're going to want to keep them around. Why? Simply because an Ether is a rare steal from them. You can't buy Ethers, and they restore your MP, so you're going to want a good stock of them, even though SS restore all your MP, just to mix(with the Alchemist DS).

Also, in case you are picking a target and don't know enough to be able to match a fiend's name to it's appearance, take a look at the battlefield. The fiend or girl the targetting cursor is pointing to in the target window will have a big yellow circle around it/her and an orange arrow pointing downwards directly over it/her.

Inside the temple, move forward and climb up a ledge. Just beyond two pillars, move either left or right to see a switch that you must press in order to retrieve a Red Ring awaiting freedom into your pocket, or a shop. There are switches on both sides and you must press both in order to reach the accessory. Pressing them lowers a column in another area that will be vital in getting the Red Ring.

After hitting both switches, go back to the two pillars and move forward. You will drop into a pit if you don't hold down the O button, but dropping into it reveals a chest containing a White Ring. This halves ice elemental dmg and allows the wearer to cast the Black Magic spell "Blizzard", again regardless of whether or not you have the Black Mage DS equipped.

Climb out of the pit, jump across and keep going until you reach some platforms. Jump over the platforms and go down the passage to the right(keep the O button pressed down). If you pressed the switches just now, this is where the column fell and you can use it to reach the other side of a pit. Now head south and out into the open where the Red Ring awaits. This is yet another member of the "Cast Black Magic without the Black Mage DS equipped and be protected from the element you cast." accessories. This time, it's "Fire". Yup, you can now cast "Fire" and all fire elemental dmg is halved. Back to the platforms, quickly now, hurry up!

Now continue up the other passage. This leads to another big road(how they managed to support such roads upon such a thin tip of a mountain is beyond me). Just go left around the curving road until you see it end and a pillar that has conveniently fallen flat, now acting as a bridge to another part of the ruins. Ormi then comes around the corner and sends a Fem-Goon and some Recoils at you because they're stupid idiots and don't realize that the timer stops during battles. Dispose of the enemies with a few well-thrown Budget Grenades.

Move onto the pillar and jump towards the big rock. Don't go to the other side, that leads to nowhere and you're supposed to jump onto the rock. Once you're on, climb up the other ledges. From here, you can see another column just to your right that you're supposed to jump on, but first, go past it and run around the curving ledge to a chest containing a Star Pendant accessory. This protects you from the Poison status effect, which gradually saps your HP at regular intervals. You don't need to equip it right now, however. Now go back to where you were after climbing up the ledges and jump onto the column.

Go up the column and climb up the ledges to an SS. Once you reach it, if you made it before the Syndicate did, you'll see LeBlanc and her gang hanging down from ledge with a chest on it. If not...I don't really know, but I've been told that the chest will be empty. And LeBlanc tells Logos to stop staring. Well, it's YOUR fault for wearing such a slutty outfit.

After the cutscene, save, then climb up there and open the chest for a Muscle belt. What, I can't step on her hand? Aww, bummer! Anyway, equip that Muscle belt on your Thief. Run back to the SS and save. Then go up the steps behind the chest.

Boss Battle: Boris

HP: 480
MP: 0
Gil Stolen/Dropped: 700/300
Items Stolen/Dropped: Remedy(N), Remedy x2(R)/Star Pendant(N&R)
EXP: 26
AP: 1
Difficulty:(N)Medium/(NGP)Easy

Normal: For this battle, you may want to level up a bit before fighting Boris. Level 8-10 would do nicely. And if you have the patience of a god, you can have all three girls learn the "Stopproof" ability on the Thief DS and have them all in the Thief DS for the entire battle.

On to the battle. Boris is a physical-based giant spider. You know what that means. Yup, using webs to trap you. In short, it means the "Stop" status effect for anyone who gets affected by Boris' "Sticky End" ability. The only way you can cure "Stop" right now is to wait for it to wear off or use a Remedy. But since Remedies right now are in short supply, save them for later battles when you are affected with multiple status ailments. For his other attacks, this spider has a mean physical attack. If you leveled up before this battle, I don't think you would have a problem with his physical attacks, but if you didn't, keep an eye on the girls' HP. Anyone who drops below 50 HP, heal. IMMEDIATELY. Have your Songstress "Darkness Dance" the spider to prevent most of his physicals from connecting. Your Warrior should just attack physically while your Thief steals the Remedy(ies) and pilfer that 700 gil. Then have her and the Warrior chain attacks together, blah-blah-blah. You know the drill by now. Songstress...dance some more.

NGP: Mug/Steal, Nab/Pilfer Gil, throw bomb, battle over. 26 EXP, 300 gil, and Star Pendant coming your way.

Run forward into the chamber containing the sphere. LeBlanc limps in with her Syndicate and tries one last vain attempt to save her pride. Youth wins again!
