Mission #004: Desert Peril[]

Pre-Battle[]

Our monster friends are back, but this time there's a Cream instead of an Antlion and a couple of Red Panthers. The Cream is lightning-based, so it can be KO'ed in one turn with Fire or Blizzard. The Coeurl is as tough as ever, but it will take at least 3 turns to get to your team. basically, the strategy as Village Hunt applies.

Battle Strategy[]

Take that Cream out with a spell immediately. You can weaken the Couerl by using ranged attacks, Heavy Dust, Aim: Arm, Fire Whip, or Aim:Legs will buy you some time to get rid of the two Panthers without the Couerl interfering. Target the Panthers one at a time and you'll win quickly.

Post-Battle[]

Marche asks Montblanc why the monsters are acting so crazily (you know, cause they're MONSTERS). Montblanc speculates that entities known as the Crystals might be exuding enough magic to drive the monsters insane. Marche gazes up at the sky......Epic Foreshadowing, Cut!

Preparing for the Next Mission[]

Place the Ulei River location on the map (I like placing it on the little island to the northwest of Cyril...but that's just me). Once again we can sign up for a lot of side missions. These include: Mission #213: Oh Milese, Mission #139: Earthy Colors, Mission #145: Goblin Town, Mission #152: Down to Earth, and Mission #199: Girl in Love. Two clan missions will also appear: Mission #101: Clan Roundup and Mission #112: A Challenge, when you encounter both of these clans, choose "Engage". I'll take you through Mission #049: A Lost Ring, and I'm not ever going to badger you on your job chocies. LOL, RIGHT. Quickly: Have a Dragoon with a Breath move.

Mission #049: A Lost Ring[]

Pre-Battle[]

A standard monster mission, we've got 2 Lamias and a Lilith accompanying a Goblin and a Sprite. Make sure your Dragoon in in the front row. This is the last time I'll tell you to equip Dash Boots, they should be on your units' feet on each and every mission.

Battle Strategy[]

The Sprite will likely move down and position herself right next to the slower Lamia. This is a perfect opportunity to use a couple of Breath moves and Black Magic spells to KO them both at once. Move Marche on the bridge in front of the other Lamia to block it, then hit it with an Air Render. If the other enemies attempt to wade through the water to reach you, immobilize them. The only real danger is the Lilith's Poison Frog move, which inflicts Poison and Toad status, duh. An Esuna takes care of this.

Preparing for the Next Battle[]

After all those subquests, your units' levels should all be at least 9. If not, battle some more clans, then take Mission #005: Twisted Flow at the Pub and head to Ulei River. The Dragoon and Elementalist jobs are extremely useful for this mission, as is the Cura magic. IF you have a Summoner (as I did) bring it along.

Mission #005: Twisted Flow[]

Pre-Battle[]

Famfrit FFTA

Famfrit in all his glory. Don't worry, he only uses that awesome cannon when he's on your side.

Marche wanders around the river, noticing nothing out the ordinary. This changes when a black hole erupts in the middle of the river...and sucks Marche in. Now in a ruinous shrine, Marche notices the large shiny....CRYSTAL in the middle of the room. He's is about to look for an exit when a disembodied voice questions him.........The Totema Famfrit appears, and is none too pleased about Marche's intrusion. Summoning two Floateyes and two Ahrimans, the Totema attempts to Expulse Marche from the shrine. The Ahriman to the right has the nasty Roulette ability, which randomly KO's a friendly or opposing unit. Famfrit himself is no laughing matter: He has upwards of 150 HP and the Expulse skill-set that contains some devastating attacks, including the Demi magic that cuts a unit's HP in half. Place a quick unit (Viera) on the right side of the starting block and spread the rest of your units around evenly.

Battle Strategy[]

There's two ways of going about this mission: Concentrate exclusively on Famfrit or KO his minions first. My units were well-equipped for this mission, plus I like to obliterate things, so I chose the 'kill everything then Famfrit' method. Move that quick unit up 4 spaces away from the rightmost Ahriman (the RED one) and cast magic on the nearby Floateye. That way, the Ahriman will choose to attack you instead of using its dangerous 'Roulette' move. Your units on the right should neutralize the Ahriman that swooped in to attack your bait unit. Your units on the left should annihilate the other Floateye and try to impose a status effect on Famfrit. Summon magic is highly useful in these cramped quarters. Once all the flying eyeballs are grounded (don't you love that sprite? It's a little orb with an eye on the top and no mouth! Or wings! OR FEET!), close in on the Totema.

Post-Battle[]

Marche demands that Famfrit explain the purpose of himself and the Crystals. "With the white ones, I was born"....the crystals are responsible for this world existing! Famfrit then gives you his power and the Crystal shatters. The seam comes up again, and Mewt shakes his head... The locale changes, and the real Mewt (with a ridiculous hairdo and repulsive makeup) has thrown a tantrum. He's ever crabbier in this world......anyway, Cid walks in, no longer a drunkard but the Judgemaster. Mewt whines a bit and asks for his mother. Cid says that "Babus" has gone to fetch her, and then she walks in. Mama!?!? Yes, Mewt's mother is alive in this world, under the name of Queen Remedi. Mewt runs up for an embrace, and Remedi breaks the news to Cid that a crystal has been shattered. The couple (?) agrees on strengthening the country's laws. Back with Marche, who has been returned to the riverbank. Contemplating on Mewt's image, Marche resolves to destroy the remaining Crystals in the hope of returning the world back to normal.

Preparing for the Next Mission[]

True to Cid's word, you'll notice that there are now 2 Laws in effect for one day, and that they cover more skill-sets. Place the Cadoan symbol on the world map. When you enter the town, a cutscene will occur.
