The Dreadnought
Edit
The Mythril Mine
Edit
Salamand is located Northwest of Poft. You can head north until you see some snowy mountains and then follow it's trail to the left. You should have Poft's purchasable armour equipped and Protect, Blink and Shell at least at level 2. You should also have a nice amount of Gil, as there will be new weapons and magics to buy at Salamand.
It's shopping time at Salamand. Enter the Weapon shop and buy 2 Battle Axes, 2 Longwords, 2 Maces, and a Longbow. Equip the Maces to Minwu and upgrade the other's weapons, selling anyone's old weaponry. Now at the Magic shop, which is at the right of the entrance, buy Life and Teleport (not Warp! Warp Sucks), two VERY useful spells. You must be careful using teleport though. It gets you out of dungeons but it drastically reduces the user's HP. It also attempts to remove enemies from battle, but I've never seen it work. You probably won't have enough money to buy everything at once, so just train outside Salamand.
When you're ready, enter the big house which is northeast from the entrance and speak to a green-dressed man. Ask about Mythril and he will say that he'll tell you what he knows about Mythril if you rescue a bunch of people that were enslaved by the Empire to work at Semmit Falls. You know what to do. Leave Salamand and head West. While on you're way, you can check out the version's new dungeon, the Arcane Labyrinth. It seems that there are various versions of this dungeon and you use the passwords you get during the playthrough to proceed. By using the correct words you can get your character's ultimate weapons (^^).
When you reach a river, get on it and follow it until you reach a cave -- Semmit Falls.
From the entrance, go south and turn west. At the T crossing, head northwest to find a chest with 200 Gil, then go back and head southeast, to find another crossing, with 400 Gil to the right and the next level to the left. Get the Gil.
On B2, follow the path until you are able to choose to go either northwest, north or southeast. On the northeast path there is a chest with Eye Drops, on the north path there is a potion, and the southeast path contains a chest with an Hi-Potion and in the end there are 4 doors. The exit to the next level is in the 1st door to the left.
On B3, go all the way south to reach a chest with 200 Gil and then go northwest until you reach a crossing. Go southwest to find a chest with 200 Gil and turn back, this time head west and enter the first door from the left again. Inside are the enslaved dudes you're meant to save. Talk to Paul, the guy from Altair. If you don't know who he is, don't worry, he's the guy that's different from the others. He will call Borgen a "dastard" and lead the Slaves to Salamand. Now you have to get on the other room and descend the stairs to B4.
Go north until you see a chest with a Fire Tome and head east until you find a 4-way crossing. Go North and follow the path. It will lead you to the next level. On B5 go through the bridge and head northeast to find a Teleport Tome protected by a Land Turtle. It's not hard, just cast Blizzard and you got yourself an OKHO. Now go all the way back to the stairs and, instead of going west over the bridge, go north and enter the door on the left. Heal yourself and talk to the soldier. Time for a boss fight!
Now open the Chest to obtain Mythril. Use teleport and head to Salamand. You can now speak with Josef, but anything he says is irrelevant. You can go to Poft and either pay Cid to take you to Altair or pay the ferry to go to Paloom. I recommend the ferry, because if you use the Airship, then you would have to go all the way to Poft on foot.
The Dreadnought
Edit
Head to Altair and show the Mythril to Hilda. She will ask you to take it to Tobul, who is in the Weapon shop. Head there, and show the Mythril to the Old Geezer. He will make weapons of it. Now, if you want to buy Mythril equipment, which is EXTREMELY expensive for this time on the game, train outside Fynn, or train in the Arcane Labyrinth NW. (It's very easy to navigate, be sure you don't choose the Tracking level. Whenever you wish to leave the place, instead of using a word to proceed on the seals, say no to the first question, and then he will ask you if you wish to exit the dungeon). After getting mythril weapons and armor for AT LEAST Minwu, talk to Hilda. She will ask you to go to Bafsk and destroy the Dreadnought.
Basfk is to the east of Poft. Go to Poft and pay Cid's assistant 100 Gil so that he takes you to Bafsk. When at Bafsk, there are only three thing you have to acquire: Silence, Esuna and Basuna Tomes. Esuna is one of the most economic spells in the game. When well leveled, it heals your party's permanent status and Basuna does the same, but instead of healing your party's permanent status, it heals temporary status, thus it can only be used in battle. Silence is useful for a boss fight. Put it on Guy. Now, west of the Magic shop you can see a narrow path between two houses. Get in there until you see an isolated Palamecian Soldier. He's our spy. Ask him about the Dreadnought and he'll open the path to a secret cave that leads to it.
The cave is very easy. It's impossible to die down here with Minwu. Well... if you are really stupid, you can die in here. The dungeon is straightforward and the enemies are weak. If you leveled enough to upgrade Minwu's armour to mythril this is basic. This is a chance to level Basuna and Esuna.
In the first floor there are two chests, one with a Longsword and another with a Longbow (>_>). In the second floor there is no chest, and in the end you will see someone special! The Dark Knight is there to make fun of your face and he will say that the Dreadnought is ready. Goddamn him!
Anyways, go east and enter the door. Collect the Pass inside the chest and step on the teleporter. You'll be on the Overworld. Go to Poft and you'll see that the Dreadnought attacked every town around the world. Talk to Cid, and ask him about Airships. He will let you know that Airships are powered by Sunfire. Learn that word -- it's important. Now head yourself to Altair, and be sure that you equipped Minwu with mythril equipment.
(Matter of Importance: If you wish to obtain Minwu's Ultimate weapon, this is the time. Have in mind though that you will need to do a LOT of grinding and I'm not covering that on the walkthrough.)
