Walkthrough:Final Fantasy/BlueHighwind/Part 6

From Final Fantasy Wiki

Hallo Weltraum Affen.

[edit] Cavern of Earth (Again)

Go all the way back to the Earth Cavern to go all the way back to the room where we killed the Vampire. Now go East and down to find a staircase down and into the lower levels.

The enemies down here are mildly stronger than the higher levels be prepared for a long hard trek. Save your Black Mage's MP the best you can, you are going to need it for the fight with the Dungeon Master. From the stairs head North until you find a fork going North and West. Go North to find a winding path leading to a treasure room. Inside you'll find a huge stash of Gil: 3400, 1520, 5450, 1455 Gil, and a Staff. Go back to the fork and go the other way.

Go West and you'll find another divide. Southeast leads nowhere. Northwest will eventually take you to the stairs, but if we want treasure head Southwest. Continue along the long and winding road until you find a fork. North will take you to that stairway, and South to the treasure room. My greedy readers and I will go South to find a Tent, a Mythril Shield, and 1250 Gil. Now go up to the stairs and go down to final level (finally).

This one is nice and simple and doesn't have any treasure rooms to lure us in and steal our energy. Keep going West, the room twists and turns but that's all you really need to know. Enter the boss's chamber to see a small glowing orb. Go up to it and a booming voice will inquire "Who speaks to me?". Then the Evil Fiend of the Earth himself will appear. Be ready for a real melee.

Boss Battle: Lich
Image:Lich psp.png
HP: 1200
Difficulty: Medium

Strategy:

I love the music here, its so dramatic. Okay this is the first true boss fight in this whole game. Lich has got some five times the HP of his little follower, the Vampire. Physical attacks don't do shit, but even so keep up the pressure. Your physical attackers can easily be used as the healers throwing Potions as needed. "Haste" both your mages. Your White Mage is this one and only time going to be your prime offensive weapon, blasting this undead foe with "Diagas". Your Black Mage should add to the attacks with "Firaga" blasts. Lich has got a few nasty moves, he can "Haste" himself, and put your characters to sleep with "Sleepra". His worst attack by far is "Blizzara" so to limit its strength be sure to "Nulfrost". Don't worry, be happy. He'll be disintegrating in no time.

Go up the Crystal ahead of you and it'll turn on like a light bulb. Horray! We just saved one of the four crystals that control one of the four elements. Get used to these crystals for they reappear in III, IV, V, IX, and it looks like they'll be coming back in XIII. I think somebody at Square is really obsessed with that New Age bullshit.

Anyway one down, three to go. And somewhere off to the distance in the Earthgift Shrine the statue of Lich breaks, thus allowing us entry into our very first optional dungeon. But the enemies there are far too powerful for our Light Warriors at this level so we won't be going there until we've taken out all Four Fiends. For now go to the back of the room and teleport back to the entrance of the Cave, unless you're a masochist who wants to walk all the way back to the entrance. I'm not here to judge.

Return to Melmond and rest up. The grateful citizens of this town will give you the grand reward of a... (drumroll) ...nothing. We don't get jack shit for risking our lives for these people, and slaying two evil bosses. Its times like this that I wish these games would let me kill NPCs. I slave and I slave, and what love do I get? None!

Get on your boat and prepare for a long journey.

[edit] Crescent Lake

There are three routes you can take to get to this town on the Eastern end of the continent you're currently on. First is the fastest way, you can just circumnavigate the globe Columbus style until you reach the other side of the continent and then go down to the Southern dock. Or you could go Vasco da Gama's route and go sail South and East around to the docks. Or you go hunt for the Northwest passage and go North and down. It doesn't matter, ask your local holy man for advice.

Once you've reached the docks head South along the path until you find a large Crescent-shaped lake. Beware though, the enemies in the area are really nasty. March around the lake and enter the walled city of Crescent Lake - the most stable town we've seen yet. Finally a town not on the brink of collapse. We can rest easy, Space Monkies for this town is safe. As always upgrade your units with whatever armor meets your fancy. As for Black Magic only get "Thundaga". "Quake" and "Death" will actually hit their targets the day that I beat Final Fantasy VIII. This time though, you will want some of that fancy new White Magic. Buy "Protera" which is the upgrade of "Protect", and "Exit" which is invaluable for escaping dungeons.

Go to the Northeast corner of the city and then enter the forest. Don't worry you won't warp to the outside. Hike along the forest path to run into a circle of weirdo sages. Each has to put in his two cents over the severe problems facing the world today. Just talk to the guy on the right of the blue guy to receive a Canoe. Hey this dude gave a Canoe for doing absolutely nothing, you can learn something from this guy Melmond. The Canoe allows you to navigate the shallow waters around this town and the maze of rivers all around you.

Go outside and sail around the lake to gather up a few levels. Once you're ready go onto the next page.
