Walkthrough:Final Fantasy/BlueHighwind/Part 5

From Final Fantasy Wiki

Wuz uuuuuuuuuuuupp, Space Monkies. You should know my name by now, but even so I'll tell you again; I am BlueHighwind. I am not the son of Satan but merely his nephew's second cousin once removed.

[edit] Melmond

Welcome to the rotting remains of the once great Melmond civilization, now nothing but dirt and a sad group of starving souls who resemble poor Alabama folk. Some vampire known as the Vampire (clever name) attacked the village and left it a rotting hell hole with more than its fair share of tombstones. And this Vampire has also somehow caused a massive famine. Is there any civilization in this world that isn't on the brink of collapse? For once I would just like to come to a town and relax for a moment instead of having to save everybody's ass.

Be sure to expand your Attack and Defense at the Weapons and Armor shops. I wouldn't advise buying the Knight's Armor for the price is obscene. The Melmondites may be starving but we're not going to let them rob us. As for the Magic buy "Firaga", "Curaga", "Healara", and "Life". And be sure to buy "Diaga", coming up your going to need a good undead slaying spell. There is no Item Shop here so if your low on items you have to sail all the way back to Cornelia to grab some. You know we could start an extremely profitable trade enterprise here, shipping the Potions from Cornelia to Melmond. Since the Melmondites don't have any other source of Potions we could overcharge them obscenely. 200 Gil per Potion. We'll be swimming in Gil in no time. But unfortunately the game doesn't let us do that. I'm pissed, let's go kill that motherfucking Vampire.

[edit] Cavern of Earth

Before even thinking of entering this dungeon be sure to have several Gold Needles. There is an enemy in here known as the Cockatrice that can turn your allies into Stone with just one hit. I have a horror story here, I walked into this cave with my head held high, fought my way about three quarters the way in, and bam one Cockatrice Stones both my Warrior and Monk. I barely made it back to Melmond with my ass still intact. You don't want to repeat my mistake. These Cockatrices are real cocks.

Head Southwest along the coast until you reach a fork. West leads to a cave blocked by some Rock Monster's big fat ass. South leads to the Cavern of the Earth, and since that's the name of this section I believe we should go there.

As soon as you enter the Earth Cavern you'll find that you're at a crossroads. Don't head West. I'll repeat that: DO NOT HEAD WEST. I think there's a glitch or something over there and every single step you take leads to a battle with a Hill Gigas. If you're not properly leveled these guys will kill you. Even if you survive the trip around your team will be so battered they'll have to retreat back to Melmond to heal. Plus there's nothing over there anyway, so why waste your time?

South is just a dead end so don't go that way either. Instead follow the Northern path to find a treasure room containing 1975 Gil. Return to the stairs and go East into another fork. Go South first all you'll find that this too forks off three ways: the West leads to a Treasure Room containing 880 Gil, and a Potion, while the South goes nowhere - don't go that way, and the East leads to 795 Gil and an Antidote. Now return to the second fork and go East which will take you to the stairs.

The second level is a weird maze, but still easily navigatable. First start heading South until you reach a split path, head Northeast until you find another treasure room. What are the spoils in here? 330 Gil, a Tent, and a Coral Sword. Not bad. Now head South to find the stairs leading down.

By this point your team should be starting to pant. Don't worry this is the last floor. Your have to make your away around the Vampire's room in a large counter clock-wise circle. But before doing that go East a bit to find a room with a chest containing a Sleeping Bag. Now follow that circle. Along the way you'll see three rooms: the first contains 3400 Gil, the second is empty, and the third holds 1020 Gil.

Finally once you've almost completed one loop around this floor you'll find a door leading to our big bad foe. Wait that's just a bat. At least he's an existentialist philosopher bat - "All things in this world are destined to end in death." Then the bat transforms into the Vampire (vampires can turn into bats you know). You know that Vampire kind of looks like Vaati from Zelda Minish Cap. I don't know why I keep on bringing up Zelda. Maybe its my subconscious telling me to play something with more challenge.

After going through this annoying ass maze lets return the favor.

Boss Battle: Vampire
Image:Vampire psp.gif
HP: 280
Difficulty: Easy

Strategy:

Yet another boss who learned to fight at the Garland Academy of Pushovers. Torch his ass with your best Fire elemental spells. Two "Fira"s and a physical attack and he's dead. I laughed my ass off when this dude died in two turns. So falls the great Vampire.

That's it? Why are the bosses in the game always so damn easy? Actually he was just as easy as Vaati. I'm starting to get really annoyed here. And that intimidating boss music just expands the irony.

Grab the Star Ruby out of the chest and head back to Melmond for a much needed rest. Wait, nothing's changed! That Vampire must have just have been a front man for a much bigger operation. I hope so because these bosses are starting to seriously bore me.

[edit] Sage's Cave

Return to that cave where the Rock Monster was blocking your path. Now you can bribe him to move his big fat ass by feeding him that Star Ruby. First head all the way South to steal the Goron's treasure (yet another Zelda reference!). Steal his Great Axe, 620 Gil, 450 Gil, and Mythril Helm. Now head North and out of the cave.

Navigate your way South until you find another cave. Don't worry, there are no evil monsters in here. All it contains is some weird old dude who knows everything, named Sadda. Once upon a time, Sadda was named "Sarda", but then the remake translators decided that "Sarda" wasn't retarded enough. He'll tell you that the Vampire was not behind the rot of Melmond its in fact some dude named Lich. He then hands you an Earth Rod and tells you to explore the Earth Cavern some more. Goddamnit! Now we have to go all that way down again, plus some. Return to Melmond and heal up, you also may want to sail back to Cornelia to buy some new healing items.
