Walkthrough:Final Fantasy/BlueHighwind/Part 12

From Final Fantasy Wiki

Hi Space Monkies. Consider this walkthrough an invasion of your mind by a trancendently rational mind. Which just so happens to be my ego, the persona known as BlueHighwind.

[edit] Mirage Tower

And she's buying a Stairway to Heaven

God, who doesn't love Led Zeppelin? Before we can fight the big bad Fiend we first must ascend up the first step on this Stairway to Heaven. The very first floor can be skipped altogether by our more lazy Space Monkies. All you have to do is go East a bit and there's the stairway, but first lets enter the Treasure Room to find a massive bunch of fun little items. Its kind of a maze but you should be able to open every chest without my guidance. The things you'll find are: 800 Gil, a Healing Helm, 3400 Gil, a Vorpal Sword, 18010 Gil, 2750 Gil, an Aegis Shield, and a Tent. Now go up those stairs.

This next floor is similar to the first in that it also has a large bunch of treasure in the center. But running around this area cannot be avoided. Head all the way North and then South in a giant parabola. As you're heading South be sure to slip East through each of the holes in the walls. Now you can head North or South. North will lead you to the final floor, South will lead you to a giant treasure room. With the walls of that room there are ten chests which contain: the Dragon Mail, 10000 Gil, Sun Blade, 7600 Gil, Cottage, 13000 Gil, 12350 Gil, Thor's Hammer, 7900 Gil, and 8135 Gil. Be sure to equip those weapons and armor you found and head to staircase.

The final floor of this mini-dungeon has no treasure but does at least have a nice easy boss.

Boss Battle: Blue Dragon
Image:BlueDragon-ff1-gba.gif
HP: 454
Difficulty: Easy

Strategy:

I'm a Blue Dragoon, she's a Blue Dragon. You'd think this was a match made in heaven. But I'm an arrogant self-righteous ass and she's a dragon that wants to eat me. Watch the wacky adventures of out mismatched pair this fall on NBC.

This is the last alumni of the Garland Academy of Pushovers. I'll give the Blue Dragon one thing: his "Thunderbolt" spell hurts. But he'll only be able to use it once, because his HP is pitiful. Don't waste any of your big magic here.

Now use that Warp Cube to be launched into the sky.

[edit] Flying Fortress

Now this is hardest mandatory dungeon in this whole game. Once upon a time this was the home base for an ancient race of super geniuses. Now it's nothing but crumbling rubble which serves as the base for a lot of nasty enemies. Most of the worst parts of this dungeon can be bypassed in a matter of minutes. But since we want to steal every bit of treasure from this game, its not going to be easy. It will certainly take two trips, after you've exhausted yourself finding treasure I strongly advise you make a tactical retreat. You can come back after your party is fully healed and restocked on healing items.

First you'll find yourself within the cross hairs of a giant four-way intersection. The warp to the next floor is to the North, but we'll go that way last because there's a lot of goodies around here. First head South and enter the Treasure Room to find a Razor. Now go back to the intersection and go West. Here you'll find 7900 Gil, 4150 Gil, 9900 Gil, and a Potion. Now go all the way East to the other side of the floor to find pick up 180 Gil, 5000 Gil, a Protect Ring, 6720 Gil, and a Healing Helm. Now that we've grabbed everything lets go North to the warp.

The second floor is a massive eight-way intersection. We're on the top and the next warp is on the bottom. Lets head clockwise along each to the paths to collect our booty. The Northeast path leads to Diamond Gloves. The East path leads to Diamond Shield and a Ribbon. With three Ribbons most of your party should be protected, all we need is one more to complete our set. The Southeast path leads to the Black Robe and a White Robe. You want these items. Skip the Southern path and instead go Southwest to find a chunk of Adamantite. Now go West to find 880 Gil and 13000 Gil. Now the final treasure path is the Northwest one, which contains a Mythril Helm along with a Cottage. With all that collected we can go South to the third floor.

Once again you're in the center of a giant room. The warp to the Fourth Floor is just to the West and a bit to the South. But before leaving this floor we still have so much to do. Go East and talk to the robot who'll give you a view of the world below. The Four Crystals are converging upon Garland's Castle. What do the four elements want with the corpse of that idiot? Now continue East until you hit a wall then go North. You'll find a Treasure Room containing 8135 Gil, a Protect Cloak, 9500 Gil, Clothes, a Gold Needle, and 6400 Gil. The Protect Cloak is extremely valuable. Now go back to the center and go North to find Take 5450 Gil, a Potion, 9000 Gil, and a Protect Ring. South doesn't lead to jack shit, but West will lead you to Sasuke's Blade, 3400 Gil, 4150 Gil, and a Gold Needle. If you have a Ninja be sure to give him that Sasuke's Blade. Now warp to the Fourth Floor.

Totally off topic but Sasuke is the only half-way decent character in that shitty ninja anime Naruto (FYI- ninja don't wear orange track suits, and know when to shut the fuck up). Coincidence? ...probably.

The Fourth Floor does not hold any treasure. We've now officially grabbed every item in this dungeon. As I said earlier I strongly advise you use the Warp Cube to get out of here and heal up. The final boss in this dungeon is not going to let weakened teams slide past him. Leave the dungeon now and save outside. Come back and skip past all the treasure rooms (we already grabbed all that) and just march back up here with full health.

This floor is giant repeating maze of giant pits that appears to go on for infinity. To save yourself from the endless wandering just go South two pits and West two pits. Now we're in the final floor. Its just a straight line to Tiamat - the most powerful member of the Elite Four. I mean Four Fiends. "Lich, Marlith, and the Kraken... You have defeated three fiends and reached my lofty perch. More than better... may the image of Tiamat, the Fiend of Wind, be the last thing to burn in your eyes!" Why is he so cocky? We just killed all his friends and are more powerful than ever.

Boss Battle: Tiamat
Image:Ffbosstiamatpsp.png
HP: 2400
Difficulty: Hard

Strategy:

Now this is our very first really difficult boss in this whole game. I knew that Final Fantasy I could pull it off one day. Though I will admit I'm being a little generous.

First off be sure to "Haste" and "Protect" your entire team. Also be sure to have your White Mage "NulAll" everybody - Tiamat has that very dangerous "Thunderbolt" which I guess he taught to Blue Dragon. That's really why Tiamat is so much more difficult than the other Fiends, he doesn't have an element weakness. I also strongly advise that you use Giant's Gloves on your physical attackers so that they can really blast Tiamat away. And don't be cheap with the "Flares", you're going to need every thing you got to take this fucker down.

All right!! We beat all four of the Four Fiends! This is it, all the Crystals have been turned back on and the world is saved. But wait there's trouble brewing at the late Garland's pad. It seems that the very first dungeon happens to be the final one as well. But before taking out the last boss there's still so much to do. We have to finish off the four optional dungeons first. Yes we're doing the extra sidequests first. It you don't want to then skip ahead a few pages. But trust me, the Chaos Shrine is a lot easier if you've gotten the experience and weapons from these dungeons.
