(Redirected from WEAPON)
Jump to: navigation, search

This article refers to the recurring Superbosses from various games in the series. For information on Swords, Spears, etc., see Weapon (Equipment).

Weapons are creatures that appear in several of the Final Fantasy games. Monstrously powerful, they are usually some of the toughest bosses in their respective games.

[edit] Appearances

[edit] Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls

The Dawn of Souls remake included both Omega and Ultima as optional bosses. Omega Weapon appears in the original Final Fantasy and is a modified version of the robot featured in Final Fantasy V who is found in the Lifestream Grotto. Victory yields the Murasame, the strongest Ninja weapon.

A slightly altered Behemoth sprite is used in the Final Fantasy II remake as the Ultima Weapon, and proves to be a difficult boss. Defeating it grants the player the Ultima spell.

[edit] Final Fantasy V

Although not specifically named as a Weapon, the Omega appears in this game as an optional boss in the Cleft of Dimension. Its appearance is that of a spider-like robot.

An upgraded version called the Omega Mk.II appears in the Game Boy Advance remake in the new optional dungeon Sealed Temple.

[edit] Final Fantasy VI

The Ultima Weapon was created as a weapon of mass destruction during the War of the Magi. It is fought on the Floating Continent. There also exists a monster called Ultima Buster, who resides in Kefka's Tower.

The Game Boy Advance remake included the Omega Weapon as an additional optional boss.

[edit] Final Fantasy VII

Weapons play a major role in this game. They are monsters awakened by Sephiroth, although they are actually hybrid biological/mechanical creatures created by the Planet to repel Jenova. After Jenova was defeated, the Weapons were crystallized in Mako, enhancing their powers and putting them to sleep. Upon Sephiroth acquiring the Black Materia, the Weapons sensed the danger to the Planet from Meteor and awoke. However, due to the extraction of mako and the negative effects human civilization was having on the Lifestream, the Weapons began attacking humanity as a whole. As he was the greatest threat of all, Sephiroth had raised a barrier in the Northern Crater that prevented the Weapons from sensing him. They were thus unaware of his plans or that he had been the one to call Meteor.

The five Weapons seen in the game are Sapphire Weapon, Diamond Weapon, Ultimate Weapon, Ruby Weapon, and Emerald Weapon. Of these, Sapphire is destroyed by Shin-Ra, Diamond is killed by AVALANCHE, and Ultimate, Ruby and Emerald serve as challenging optional bosses.

[edit] Before Crisis -Final Fantasy VII-

The mobile phone game sports a weapon only available in a special mode, called "Weapon Mode". The weapon itself is called the Jade Weapon.

[edit] Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-

During Zack's time wondering through Banora underground, there is a Weapon that is clearly visible hiding behind a few crystals. However, due to its location, you are not able to get closer due to it being out of the map. Upon further examination, it appears to be [[Emerald Weapon (Final Fantasy VII)}Emerald Weapon]], due to its distinct similarity of Emerald Weapons' features. This Weapon serves as an easter egg.

[edit] Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII-

The Omega Weapon is the final and most powerful of all the Weapons to be activated, and its function is different from that of the others. While most of the Weapons activate when the Planet is threatened in order to eliminate the threat, Omega Weapon activates when the Planet is on the verge of destruction. When this happens, it absorbs the Lifestream from the Planet (it kills anything left alive first to ensure it has all of the available Spirit Energy) before departing for another world to transplant it. It is related to the semi-Weapon, Chaos.

[edit] Final Fantasy VIII

The Ultima Weapon can be fought in the Deep Sea Research Center and the Omega Weapon can be fought in Ultimecia's Castle.

[edit] Final Fantasy X

Both the Ultima Weapon and the Omega Weapon can be fought in the Omega Ruins.

[edit] Final Fantasy X-2

"Whatever you do, don't call it Atma."
—Bestiary entry

The Omega and Ultima Weapons returned for X-2 as randomly encountered battles on the Farplane and within the Via Infinito. While nowhere near as formidable as their former incarnations of the Omega Ruins, they still present quite a challenge to the party. A tougher version, Paragon, can be fought as the penultimate boss of the Via Infinito. Emerald Weapon appears exclusively to the international version of the game.

[edit] Final Fantasy XI

Weapons, or Evil Weapons, are an enemy creature type of the Arcana family. They are quite common, especially along the various spires and ancient constructs of the Zilart. Weapons are aggressive creatures, and notice their prey by sound. They cast spells, and most closely resemble Red Mages in their spell selection. Weapons themselves never actually attack their targets, but instead direct a floating weapon above their head to attack.

The Ultima Weapon and Omega also appear in Final Fantasy XI as bosses in the Chains of Promathia expansion.

[edit] Final Fantasy XII

Omega Mk. XII is located in the Great Crystal at Giruvegan. For this game its design reverted to the original concept used in Final Fantasy V of being a gigantic mechanical spider-like creature, rather than organic.
