Etymology[]
The term "vorpal sword" was coined by Lewis Carroll in the poem "Jabberwocky", which referred to a sword "that went snicker-snack!", wielded by a young boy in his quest to defeat the monster called Jabberwock. Like many other creatures and objects, the vorpal sword was borrowed into the original Final Fantasy by way of Dungeons & Dragons.
