Voice acting began in the Final Fantasy series from just vocal music, partial dialouge or both starting from Final Fantasy VII in 1997 to Final Fantasy IX in 2000 possibly due to the strain of the games' polygon and FMV 3D rendering in the CD-ROM used by the PlayStation altough the main Final Fantasy XI game is the only modern exception as it was an online game. However when the series started to move on to the PlayStation 2 and later the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 then voice acting began to become a necessity from Final Fantasy X onwards.
