I hate this place.

Via Purifico is a dungeon and an unrevisitable location located below the city of Bevelle in Final Fantasy X. It is intended as a place for prisoners to be left to die. After the two separate parties defeat Isaaru (Yuna's Party) and Evrae Altana (Tidus's Party) and escape the deathtrap, they can never again return to the labyrinth.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. (Skip section)

Yuna's guardians invade the wedding ceremony for her and Seymour, but they are quickly ambushed and threatened with execution if the ceremony does not continue. Although the two are wed, a diversion is made when Yuna escapes to Bevelle Temple with Valefor, her guardians quickly following. After Yuna is found in the Chamber of the Fayth, the party is arrested and put on trial.

The trial reveals the higher echelons of the Yevon order to be engaged in a deception of their subordinates and the people of Spira. Yuna and her guardians are found guilty of treason for killing Maester Seymour and conspiring with the Al Bhed to cause an insurrection. They are imprisoned and sentenced to the Via Purifico, where they are split into two different sections.

Tidus, Wakka, and Rikku are left to fend for themselves in the underwater sewers, while Yuna, Lulu, Kimahri, and Auron are left scattered in an underground labyrinth. It can be inferred that each person was led to his or her sentence individually and without any knowledge of the others' whereabouts, as shown with Tidus when he finds Wakka and Rikku.

In the underground labyrinth, Yuna gathers Lulu, Kimahri, and Auron as they gradually find the exit. However, they find Isaaru guarding the path, as he was assigned to "deal with the traitors" should they attempt to escape. Yuna bests Isaaru in a battle between their aeons, forcing him to reveal the exit to the surface. In the underwater sewers, Tidus, Wakka, and Rikku search for the exit, all while encountering fiends and the undead Evrae Altana. They, too, reach the surface and the party is reunited on the Highbridge.

Yuna's quest to find her friendsEdit

Yuna must find her scattered companions in the dungeon, by finding Kimahri, Auron, and Lulu. Afterward, she must activate a teleporter to find her way out. Of the scattered party members, only Auron is required to be found. Finding Kimahri and Lulu is completely optional.

Should the player fail to locate them, they will automatically be recruited back into the party once the party reunites on Bevelle's Highbridge. Once the party reaches the end of the dungeon, Yuna will be forced to face Isaaru in a battle of aeons. She and her party are allowed to exit after he is defeated.

This is the only time in the game someone other than Tidus is the onscreen leader.

Tidus, Rikku, and Wakka must navigate the sewers and use floodgates to their advantage. They must fight the unsent form of Evrae as a boss before they can finally find their way out.

Appears only in the Sewer portion of Via Purifico, close to the 1st save sphere. Looks like an Al Bhed treasure chest.

Main article: Via Purifico (Theme)

The music that plays in Via Purifico is called simply "Via Purifico" (浄罪の路, Jōzai no Michi?). In the HD Remaster, "Via Purifico" is completely replaced by the piano version.

Via purifico is Latin for "road to purification".
