Vagrant Soul is a Rare Game enemy found in Pharos's Subterra in Final Fantasy XII. The player can steal a weapon from it.

Vagrant Soul has a 25% chance of appearing in the room behind the ancient door in the northwest section of the Abyssal after the Shadowseer has been defeated. It can be found in the large chamber behind the ancient door at the end of the hallway behind the fool's facade in the eastern room of the northwest section. If the player cannot find it, they should move two zones away into the main concourse where the lift is, and head back to reset the spawning conditions.

Vagrant Soul is also fought alongside two Leamonde Entites in the Zodiac versions' Trial Mode in Stage 80 where a Dark Matter can be rarely stolen from it.

The Vagrant Soul, along with its regular enemy counterpart, the Leamonde Entite, is a reference to Vagrant Story.

Bestiary entry[]

Derivation: Leamonde Entite

Trial Mode

Vagrant Soul is fought alongside two Leamonde Entites in Stage 80, the final entite stage. One strategy is to use a Remedy on them while wearing a Nihopalaoa to immobilize all entites and then work out a strategy from further afield, such as using Quickenings. The player can also use the Immobilize spell (will always work with Indigo Pendant equipped). Shell and elemental-resistant equipment work to mitigate damage. Turtleshell Choker allows the wearer to keep casting even when low on MP.

Etymology[]

The soul, in many religious, philosophical, psychological, and mythological traditions, is the incorporeal and, in many conceptions, immortal essence of a person, living thing, or object.

Its English name alludes to Vagrant Story, another game by the game's original director Yasumi Matsuno. Final Fantasy XII has various allusions to the title.

Its Japanese name is "Soul of Chaos". Chaos refers to the void state preceding the creation of the universe in Greek creation myths, or to the initial "gap" created by the original separation of heaven and earth. Chaos also refers to a state of disorder, disharmony, dissonance, lawlessness, and unpredictability.
