Hi! Arciel Spira here!

Welcome to my talk page. A place for questions, comments and feedback.

I don't get much talk so I'll probably purge this page every year and leave the previous years talk around.

Omega Edit

Yup, I remember now. So then what's wrong with this version, and why not just upload the new image over it? Doreiku Kuroofangu 20:02, February 21, 2012 (UTC)

oh yeah totally forgot about uploading over that other pic. I'm usually superceding jpg images so most of the time I can't do that. Anyway some things about the old pic is the glossy sheen from forced lighting on the models, and that it's also not transparent, and I'm trying to get all XI images transparent where possibleSpira 01:07, February 22, 2012 (UTC)
Ah. Well it's uploaded now, no point deleting the new one, might as well nuke the old. Doreiku Kuroofangu 01:32, February 22, 2012 (UTC)
sorry bout that will remember to replace next time before uploading new if there's an existing png. Spira 01:59, February 22, 2012 (UTC)

Overload Edit

So... decided to update the List of Final Fantasy XI Enemy Abilities page... that was a big mistake X_x It has come to my attention that there are roughly three bazillion and two new genera that the silly people at SE have decided to come up with. What's up with that? More VNM shenanigans? In any case, it looks like all of these new folks need pages.. which means I have more stuff to do. Hooray? I'd appreciate it if you could help some with that, seeing as how I don't have any firsthand knowledge of these monsters; I haven't played in months, and I'm not sure if I'm going to play again, though the new jobs do pique a certain amount of interest.

While I'm at it, I'd like to ask, where did you get the names you have for a few of these genera? Like, Belladonna for the Morta thing (If I have to name that Genus Belladonna (Final Fantasy XI Genus) because of the rafflesia monster, I will be peeved), Zilant for the dragon thing, Pteraketos for the Pug 2.0 thing? Like, I know that XIclopedia(heh, heh, XIclopedia) has Abyssic Dragon or something for the Zilant, which is just kind of silly. Are they just that slow these days? I can't find a better site for XI information, so I don't really have anywhere else to turn :\ gamerescape is somehow even worse than XIclopedia, not sure how that happened.

So, yeah, that... stuff. And also, while I'm at it, I noticed that the Wiki is lacking an image for the Harpeia ;) (what kind of a silly name is Harpeia anyways?) And again, thanks for all of your help with XI stuff :D images are far, far from my strong suit, so it's nice to have someone to help with that stuff, especially since I haven't played lately and therefore have no clue what the heck these things even are. Jimcloud 15:02, June 25, 2012 (UTC)

heh.. you've been putting in a lot of effort on those pages. i only hope other users will notice and appreciate what you do. i'm not too familiar with all the new TP moves because honestly most of the new voidwatch NMs are all just zerged down in staggerlock and you don't really see anything happening.
For genera names, I base them off the flavor text from items and NM from events that are named generically. for example. Morta is a belladonna because she drops this thing called Belladonna Sap[1], and Bismarck is a pteraketos because he drops sealord leather [2]. For others like Botulus and the Zilant, its based on Legion mob names because all of them are just Mired/Airy/Paramount <mob type name> (see for eg [3]). in fact, based on that I think some of our names for mobs are wrong and i'll probably get down to correcting that soon. (oh yea.. bgwiki has kinda taken over as far as new content is concerned. everything from voidwatch onwards (neo dynamis, legion, nyzul 2, limbus 2, einherjar 2) is probably more updated there
Finally, the Harpeia.. well. I have all of them (along with other yet to upload mob pics) tucked away in a folder. Partly because I haven't gotten down to doing it.. another thing is that Harpeia are unclassified, and the unclassified page... well could use a bit of classification. I'll get down to that soon too.. hopefully. --Spira 16:31, June 25, 2012 (UTC)
I think that a few of the names for those refer to special versions of the enemies, but I'm sure you know that. As for the Mantids.. well, there's also this. So, Harpeias are Unclassified, eh? XIclopedia has them down as Birds, but, well, XIclopedia, so yeah >_> Handy to know there's actually a wiki updating this stuff, though. Thanks :D
As for unclassified, yeah, unclassified has always been a bit of a mess, and I'm afraid it'll bite me if I go to touch it. I'll probably go through and update the (other) enemies pages to get them back to current for this, after I get done picking through the new genera for abilities for the enemy abilities page >_> Jimcloud 16:47, June 25, 2012 (UTC)
yup yup.. stuff like ferromantoise and kumakatok refer to specific sub-species, which doesn't really say much but I'll try to list them in the main enemy pages like I did for Adamantoise (Final Fantasy XI). i really want to work on enemy pages but im caught between them and the mission stories and theres so much to do for both of them its overwhelmingly hard to start somewhere (on a side note i'm halfway thru Shantotto addon story.) and from there I really want to work on gameplay systems, story NMs, weapons and stuff. it might be stupidly ambitious but I want the FFXI section here to be informative to the non-FFXI player, or the FFXI player who wants the general info and not the technical details.
anyway, back on topic. yeah. mantids based on that item you mentioned. I'd say dropped item info and official classification (family type listed in a trial) take precedence over generic mob name unless there really isn't one to follow. and we can always change them later on if an official name designation is given. for example corpselights used to be referred by different names until Baleful Skull was an item. sub-species are a bit more problematic tho. I'm hoping Play-As-A-Monster will clarify some of these ambiguities..--Spira 17:09, June 25, 2012 (UTC)
Ambitious isn't bad in my books :D I'm bad with story sections, myself, but I'm pretty decent with factual information, thus my choice of information filling for XI pages. By the way, permission to move File:Yilbegan (FFXI).png to something like File:Zilant (FFXI).png or Zilant 1 (FFXI).png? Being a mod, I can do that and all :3 Jimcloud 17:28, June 25, 2012 (UTC)
NICE you can do that? there's a whole bunch of image names i'd like to change tbh. as an example i've started future proofing monster pics by adding a monster 1 (ffxi) even if its the only existing model at the moment. makes it so much easier. i'm not entirely sure but i think pixie and mandragora pngs could use a numbering clean up as well. yes please change yilbegan.

EDIT: also, im thinking of working on the enemy subpage for Final Bosses, which is problematic in itself.. because final bosses aren't a family, they're a totally different categorization which overlaps families.. tho i still think it should be there somehow. must figure out how to sort it out. --Spira 17:42, June 25, 2012 (UTC)

Well, let me know which images you'd like moving and I'll be happy to move them :D I'll take a look at Mandragora and Pixie pics for you. Jimcloud 17:55, June 25, 2012 (UTC)
I was afraid of that :\ I couldn't move the Pixie image because it said my old image was still there, so I enlisted an admin's aid on the IRC; but he couldn't move it either; he tried restoring and redeleting the old image and then moving the image again, it worked, but... it's a little weird. It might be easier to just reupload the image, assuming you still have it >_>; at least now there's a place to reupload it to. Jimcloud 18:19, June 25, 2012 (UTC)
yay! i still have the original. this one looks fine to me too. i did a quick check for the others with this problem. Tiger, Chigoe #2, Mantid #3 i named wrongly :p, Scorpion #2, Treant #3, Uragnite #2, Kindred (if you could rename Abunnunu to just Kindred 3),
strangely enough the files that were "in the way" are no longer there. i think they were purged or something--Spira 18:47, June 25, 2012 (UTC)
I set almost all of the images that were here before for deletion when you uploaded images to replace them, so yeah, most of those did get deleted, though there are probably a few stragglers here and there. I've got something to do, and then I'll get started on moving images to their proper locations. Jimcloud 18:51, June 25, 2012 (UTC)
alright thx. it would really cut thru the hassle of having to upload and hoping the thing doesnt turn out wonky (like how it does sometimes) and then nfd the duplicates...--Spira 18:55, June 25, 2012 (UTC)
It is as I'd feared. The other images have the same issue that the Pixie image did. I'm going to bring the matter to attention on the Staff Noticeboard and see if the admins can figure out what the issue is with these. I did move the Mantid and the Kindred images, though. Jimcloud 22:07, June 25, 2012 (UTC)

Re: FFXI dup images Edit

Oh, sorry, I didn't realize that. I'll switch the dup tags around, then. Thanks for all the images you've uploaded, they're pretty nice. --Shockstorm (talk) 15:14, July 24, 2012 (UTC)

Edit: I saw you had to remove them yourself, sorry for the extra work. --Shockstorm (talk) 15:38, July 24, 2012 (UTC)
thanks. yeah i changed some of them. JimCloud had previously flagged all the jpg dups when we first started switching to png so there shouldn't be too many of those around, but just to let you know anyway. Also nowadays I try to remember to add in all the licensing stuff so hopefully you don't have to do so much work.--Spira (talk) 15:47, July 24, 2012 (UTC)

FFXI Screenshots Edit

Glad to see someone getting pics of FFXI areas now! Isn't it fun collecting landmark pics? It makes me feel a bit like an archaeologist or travel guide, even knowing the worlds are artificial. Some of the things in these games make me wonder "why is this here, and would it have been important if the developers had a chance to use it?" Great work, anyhow! Yrusama (talk) 06:10, August 9, 2012 (UTC)

haha yes. you should know that this is due in part to the work you and the other have put into XIV. it got me to log into XIV and run thru the zones just to look at them for a while. (cant wait for gamescom btw, they're finally gonna show in-game footage for ARR!)
As someone who has always loved FFXI's environments and run thru them from time to time to enjoy the scenery, I really do wonder why I never did this earlier. And i've been pleasantly surprised by some things that i never really noticed about the zones, so im really happy doing it. my only gripe is that lighting is a big issue so I can only take pics in the day (will probably need to replace some from the first zone i did cos they're so dark. Thanks anyway. lots more work to do. hope to see more XIV documentation too :D --Spira (talk) 06:34, August 9, 2012 (UTC)

PLANAR RIFTS Edit

I'll presume you know more on the subject of PLANAR RIFTS than I do.(I'm sorry, I can't say PLANAR RIFTS in an unhammy voice.) I have endeavored to write a section on these RIFTS based on what I could squeeze out of XIclopedia and BG, and I was wondering if you'd mind fact-checking it and making sure everything looks right. Thanks :D Jimcloud 13:33, August 9, 2012 (UTC)

I was juuuust about to fill some thing in on it.. Edit Conflict haha. the direction you took with it was not quite what i was going for. i'll put my version in and see what i can use from yours--Spira (talk) 13:37, August 9, 2012 (UTC)
Mkay. Do you mind if I steal that and use it for every area with a rift of the planar variety? changing the name of the enemy, of course. Jimcloud 13:55, August 9, 2012 (UTC)
that would be best. if you don't know who pops where theres this [4] you can refer to. which list are you referring to for NMs btw? i noticed T2-4 voidwalkers aren't in ERonfaure... --Spira (talk) 14:01, August 9, 2012 (UTC)
XIclopedia, which is probably a mistake seeing as how well-updated they are >_>; I'll go check out bg and see what I've missed. Jimcloud 14:04, August 9, 2012 (UTC)
EDIT: Or... not? Their area pages seem to somehow be even worse than XIClopedia's, at least as far as the Ronfaures are concerned. Jimcloud 14:05, August 9, 2012 (UTC)
I added in the ones i knew were missing. its mainly those from newer events that aren't there.. based on what I can tell, its the ones from the evolith batch that are kinda missing, as well as the VNMs..--Spira (talk) 14:07, August 9, 2012 (UTC)
Oh, um, by the way, you never uploaded the East Sarutabaruta map image, was there a reason for that? Jimcloud 14:21, August 9, 2012 (UTC)
My bad. i always try to upload that last so that I'll know im done. always forget.--Spira (talk) 14:42, August 9, 2012 (UTC)

FFXI Timeline Edit

Alrighty, you asked for it!

FFXI Timeline

I don't think you realize just how massively in-depth the 10th Anniversary is, heh. It's 44 pages packed with every single tiny thing that ever happened since the moment the game began production.

Also, I don't want to post the code for the Mandraguard here, since someone else can simply snatch it up before you see it and activate it. I guess I can email it to you or something. Espritduo (talk) 22:23, September 10, 2012 (UTC)

omg. 44 pages T_T;; but thank you for this. i didn't think it'd be this detailed. but at least i can extract all the major changes (especially over the first 3 years before NA release which was when i started playing) and work with that. this will keep me busy for a while...
anyway, you can email me at clarencedesu@gmail.com
Thanks again! --Arciel Spira (talk) 05:57, September 11, 2012 (UTC)

XI Location Images Edit

You know I can always move them if you need me to :P just put something on the talk page with the correct name and I'm more than happy to. (by the way, considering getting started on like Batallia or Jugner or something soon, figured I'd let you know while I popped in.) Jimcloud 17:27, November 27, 2012 (UTC)

whoops. I didn't know if you were around and was afraid if i didn't settle it myself i'd forget. Um.. i named it ENTIRELY WRONGLY. its supposed to be Tahrongi Dimensional Portal.jpg, not Transcendental Radiance. also made the same mistake for LaTheine and Konschtat. Glad to know you're considering getting started :D i wanted to get tahrongi done before i sleep so at least the Connected area links actually link from Saruta to the Quadav and Orc stronghold regions--Arciel Spira (talk) 17:35, November 27, 2012 (UTC)
All three are renamed :) and urgh, Jugner and Batallia both have a lot more landmarks than I thought they would ._. Jimcloud
Thanks! i should be able to get all the skeletals for vanilla outdoor zones done tomorrow. will try to touch them up thereafter and start on Zilart outdoor zones yay! They're so much more interesting and have less pointless landmarks--Arciel Spira (talk) 17:54, November 27, 2012 (UTC)

Yet More FFXI Stuff Edit

Scrapped title ideas: FFXI 2: Electric Boogaloo, Wife of FFXI Stuff, FFXI: The Maddening. Aaaaanyways, I had actual business to discuss here. There are a couple of things here that I am not familiar with on the Batallia Downs page, namely the Gobbie Mystery Box and Voidwatch Operations Officer type people. Now, I read up on these some, but reading up on it and having a comprehensive understanding of it is not necessarily the same thing. Now, should I try and write about these, or would you like to have a go at it first? Jimcloud 20:21, December 2, 2012 (UTC)

Also, while I'm at it, would you mind maaaaaaaybe getting a few images of fishing in FFXI pleeeease? Somebody decided to make a fishing article for the wiki and I figure the least we can do is provide it with a little bit of color. I pilfered the fishing guild image from FFXIclopedia, but the only actual image of fishing I could find was low quality. We have some arts, but.... well... Thanks for the help, as always :D Jimcloud 02:45, December 3, 2012 (UTC)

No problem, I'll fill the Gobbie box and Voidwatch officer things in... and also take some in-game images of fishing.. probably by tonight (my time). i just woke up :p --Arciel Spira (talk) 03:44, December 3, 2012 (UTC)

By the way, another queeestion~ would you say that the Crystwater Spring, while not marked on the map, is an important enough landmark to get its own section (and picture) in Jugner Forest? I ask because it is one of only two places (and I think the best place of the two) to catch the Crystal Bass, which is required for a Sandy mission (admittedly, an optional one, but still). What say you? Jimcloud 04:58, December 8, 2012 (UTC)

EDIT: Also, does Jugner Forest not actually have a theme that plays while you're going through there or am I forgetting it completely? I can't find anything like it on the OST, so I'm beginning to think that perhaps it doesn't have one and it just has that everpresent wind sound effect so many areas seem to have. Am I misremembering :/? Jimcloud 07:06, December 8, 2012 (UTC)

sorry for the late response. was at a 2 night beach party. first question: i think it'd depend on whether Crystwater Spring is a visibly discernable landmark as opposed to just a greentext spot that says "Crystwater Spring", because.. there are a lot landmark/terrain features that go by similar names and are used in quests.. and second question: no music in jugner/pashhow/meri --Arciel Spira (talk) 07:55, December 9, 2012 (UTC)

All the Bravest Edit

You didn't really spend fifty bucks on that game, did you? --BlueHighwind 03:55, February 20, 2013 (UTC)

i did. the game + all the dlc and like 1 bundle of hourglasses (which I really didn't need). funny cos I didn't buy a single thing for Theathrythm on iOS--Arciel Spira (talk) 04:26, February 20, 2013 (UTC)
I have no words. --BlueHighwind 18:28, February 20, 2013 (UTC)

Son of XI Stuff Edit

Hello Spira! I have questions O_O I suppose the most burning of which involves these crazy Naakual things. What's up with those? I mean, I'm looking at the Adoulin site page right now, and they're listed really weirdly, like so: Achuka, the Firebrand Naakual (Gabbrath Family). What's up with that? Is it an Achuka, or is it a Gabbrath? :? Ditto the other two Naakuals mentioned on the page. It's just kind of confusing. Jimcloud 17:42, March 30, 2013 (UTC)

well, the Naakuals are the new HNM-ish superbosses in Adoulin. No one has actually fought them yet. they're supposedly unique.. but for example, Achuka is the NMs name. Gabbrath is its supposedly "family" name, that is.. its genus name. Firebrand Naakual is its title. Thing is, if no other monster uses its model, its a unique boss, so to speak lol.. but they all fall into monster families quite clearly. Similarly, Tchakka is a Rockfin. I wouldn't know whether to assume if they are really a genus or just unique. Therein lies a problem with our list of FFXI enemies page.. which I will eventually fix.
According to the dats, theres actually only 6 Naakuals instead of the purported 7. Only 3 can be fought right now. --Arciel Spira (talk) 18:13, March 30, 2013 (UTC)
Right. All right, then. Thanks. Jimcloud 18:19, March 30, 2013 (UTC)
I'd also point out that even once-unique monsters in FFXI end up becoming monster families over time as other monsters are added that use the model. For example, the Prime Avatars got those various Abyssea wandering mobs like Maere (Diabolos), Akash (Carbuncle), etc. Dynamis Lord got Arch Dynamis Lord. Omega got Proto-Omega, Arch-Omega, and Pantokrator. When the promo material clearly states a family name up front, then we have an official term for that new "family". IMO it makes sense to just put it in its official family to start with if we know what it is.Hashmalum (talk) 18:58, March 30, 2013 (UTC)
I agree to this. Shadow Lord is the biggest example of this. We currently have him under Final Bosses, which really isn't a monster superfamily category, but just a convenient place to place all Final Bosses. We could probably keep that, but also move him to Demons, because he counts as a demon. That would imply he'd need a genus page as well, which isn't such a big deal either. Beastmen are also a problem because it's not so much a superfamily as it is catch all net - eg. Kindreds are considered beastmen, but they're Demons first (see BLU spell clarification) and Lancelord Gaheel Ja is both Lizard and beastman, so its not an exclusive category.. The unclassified are another headache i don't want to get into. And SoA just introduced a whole new bunch of 'structure' type enemies too. Baby steps i suppose. In other words, Naakuals belong under monster families, under their family name. Can always rename the images for accuracy. --Arciel Spira (talk) 04:48, March 31, 2013 (UTC)
Question about Shadow Lord: is he actually a demon in game terms (intimidates DRG wyverns, intimidated by SAM's Demon Killer trait), or just in lore? If Shadow Lord is a demon on account of his pact with Odin, doesn't that also make Lady Lilith a demon as well--and for that matter, Porthia and Ragelise when you fight them? And structures are... also a huge mess, since Adoulin introduced "structures" that have superfamilies (those roots are Plantoids and intimidate beast-type jug pets, what kind of cowardly beast is scared of a root?). It's possible some structures have had superfamilies all along, but we didn't realize it; Elemental Gyves could be elementals for instance.Hashmalum (talk) 06:28, March 31, 2013 (UTC)
He intimidates wyverns. and also you if you're wearing Crimson stuff ;0 with all these new stuff coming in that defy the current categorization, i'm want to suggest that we create new categories for them. They certainly aren't mobs per se, but you can't exactly rule them out as enemies.. It'd be so much better if the game classifies it for us.. but we know they probably wont --Arciel Spira (talk) 06:45, March 31, 2013 (UTC)

Re: MidrasEdit

Glad someone noticed the Midras page. As a Mid reference I felt he was too important not to make a big page for. I'll have to check the Code of Style, but maybe there should be an all-inclusive Mid page now that there are more listings for the name. Now that I look at your page, you seem to be the resident XI expert! I'll keep this in mind! As far as continuing the Midras page, however, I'm not sure if there are any more quests yet. Yrusama (talk) 18:15, March 31, 2013 (UTC)

haha.. he is pretty important. i thought it was funny how they never mentioned him for 11 years. i'm probably the most familiar about XI stuff around here, so i try my best to contribute. there's no other quests involving Midras atm anyway. I've cleared pretty much all the quests now--Arciel Spira (talk) 03:24, April 1, 2013 (UTC)
Good to know. Based on the last quest, I think we'll probably get the next one by checking the door in the Inventor's Coalition. There may even be a game day wait (we all know how SE loves to make us wait to extend our subscribed time). If you're around later I have something I'd like to ask you in the IRC.Yrusama (talk) 18:28, April 2, 2013 (UTC)
