Looks like I haven't got my American grammar on point. o_o; I googled it quickly but what I gleaned was just "put commas and periods inside quotation marks, in British English it depends if punctuation is part of the sentence or not." Is there some hard and fast rule to remember regarding it? Always inside quotes seemed so easy.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 17:01, July 23, 2015 (UTC)

These days it tends to be a bit looser, especially in media like games and cartoons, where they do this in the text: he said it was "too cool", rather than he said it was "too cool," with the comma outside the quotes before a sentence pause because when you quote part of the text or a term, it's less confusing and you might be led to believe the comma is part of the quote when it isn't). However, you are correct in stating that it is American style and it is correct to do the comma indoors rather than outdoors since some guides consider it acceptable. If you want, we'll leave it the way you did it since we should be following those guidelines on this wiki. The British style just seems less confusing in comparison and avoids ambiguity. Interestingly, some American guides do allow the outside quotes rules because it deliberately helps avoid syntactic mix ups or things like double periods. As an English teacher, I just have my own way of doing things and try to arrange things to make it easier on readers. Sorry if I was coming off as a know-it-all. Just trying to make things easier on the eyes here. Letdragon (talk) 18:02, July 23, 2015 (UTC)
It is like the least important thing about writing for the wiki, the commas and quotes. I was always used to the British version but when playing Type-0 noticed how it used punctuation inside quotation marks even for scare quotes, and thought, shit I should do it like that I guess. Another thing with the periods in captions that are not full sentences. It seemed "incorrect" when I first joined but then I noticed Wikipedia does it, and well, if it's good enough for Wikipedia... Personally I support lax rules on grammar and style. It's evolving, like it should! Thanks though, I was just wondering if there was some "rule" about it. I think I shall just let them commas be however they just happen to be unless quoting straight from a game.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 18:19, July 23, 2015 (UTC)
You're welcome. It's important for things like essays, making sure to quote a line properly so you don't get those weird instances of double punctuation and confuse yourself or another reader. Usually it's easy to put a quote that ends the sentence all together, since it saves some hassle in the long run. There a lot of rules about how to best utilize quotation marks. I follow them, but I make allowances in unique or unusual cases like what we were discussing. Anyway, see you later and happy editing. I'll be doing the same. There's quite a few grammar hiccups here that need attending to. Letdragon (talk) 19:54, July 23, 2015 (UTC)
