- "A young woman who is the last of the ancients. She wields great magic and her prayers keep all of her friends safe."
- —Description
Aerith Gainsborough is a bonus character in Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy and a playable character in Dissidia 014 Final Fantasy. She makes a cameo appearance as a Downloadable Assist-only character and a tutor for those who purchase Dissidia Duodecim Prologus Final Fantasy for 012. In Prologus, she gives advice on how to play and signs off by announcing her inclusion in the main game as an Assist-only character. For 014 she becomes a fully playable character and the 4th representative of the series in the Dissidia series.
When she was included first as an Assist-only bonus character in Dissidia 012, Aerith was chosen for her high ranking in a Square Enix member character survey and because her status as an Assist-only character meant her relative lack of combat abilities could be overlooked.
Appearance
Edit

Aerith's default costume is identical to her original Final Fantasy VII appearance; a shin-length pink summers dress that buttons up front with a red lining and a red bolero jacket. In addition to brown boots she wears metal bracers on her wrists as well as leaving the lower portion of the dress unbuttoned to allow for easier movement.
Aerith's first alternate outfit "Earthen Dress" is based on Yoshitaka Amano's artwork of her. She wears a pink bandeau dress with silver linings and a frontal split, a cropped, shoulder-less jacket with puffed sleeves, and pink and silver pointed high-heeled boots. Her hair ribbon is pink with blue-green polka dots, and is a different shape than her other outfits and tied differently.
Aerith’s second alternate outfit "Flower Blooming in the Slums" is based on her summer dress as seen in Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-, a blue and white thigh-length dress over a red camisole and white wedge sandals with pink straps. The dress is adorned by blue lace bows at the breast and waist as well as possessing a small corsage of flowers lining the left shoulder string. Her hair ribbon is the same shape as her original ribbon, but is a deeper shade of pink closer to red.
Aerith's DLC costume "Kingdom Hearts Two Gear" is based on Aerith's attire from Kingdom Hearts 2. She wears a carmine pink and white top held up by a string that wraps around her neck. Underneath this top, Aerith wears a pink dress with a horizontal white stripe near the bottom. She wears yet another dress underneath the first one, this dress being white and slightly longer than the first. This also resembles how she looked from Before Crisis.
Story
Edit
Battle
Edit
Aerith is described as Resolute Breaker using her Limit Breaks from her Original game to damage the opponent and using a variety of White and Geo Magic to add to her own and deplete her opponent's BRV. Aerith is good for players who wish to play a defensive game as she can add to her own BRV and work at all ranges well. However, her inability to be offensive at times can leave her exposed to a character who is very adaptable such as Sephiroth. Aerith also operates at a slower rate than some characters meaning many have opportunities to attack as though her attacks are defensive to an extent, they can leave openings which fast characters can utilize.

EX Mode
Edit

Added by CoolawitsAerith's EX Mode is Equipped Princess Guard where she changes her Guard Stick for her Princess Guard from Final Fantasy VII. In EX Mode she gains the abilities "Cetra's Grace" and "Stream's Guidance". Cetra's Grace allows Aerith to Dualcast different spells by using an attack and then pressing
or
to do a random BRV Attack or random HP Attack respectively. Stream's Guidance gives each of Aerith's attacks extra's tendrils of the Lifestream to do more damage.
Aerith's EX Burst is Prayer which operates identically to Cloud and Sephiroth's EX Bursts. The player must rapidly tap
to fill up a Limit Break meter. Filling the meter in time will have Aerith bombard the opponent with tendrils of the Lifestream which sap BRV before consuming in blast of white magic by using "Holy" to do HP damage. Failing to fill the meter will have Aerith perform Great Gospel by calling down rain to do BRV damage before calling 2 angels down to do HP damage.
