Intro Edit

I've decided to start working on my reviews page. This may take a few days, but hopefully I'll get it finished soon. Since these are only reviews, I will not go into detail about the games' plots or gameplay. Check the actual game pages for the info. I'm also using the 1-5 rating system since I prefer that over the 1-10 rating system. What is the difference between an 8 or a 9; not much.

Final Fantasy I Edit

Okay, this is the first FF of all time. I have to be honest, I'm going to be very nice to this game. Hell, it's older than I am, so I can't compare it to the newer FFs. Some of you may not like this, but I'm going to review the Dawn of Souls FF1 game.

Plot: Not much of a plot in this game. It's about a group of four chosen Light Warriors saving the world from a guy/thing called Chaos. But it was 1987! What more can you expect from a game that is 20 years old? Anyway, the plot isn't that bad, it's simple and sometimes that's a good thing.

Gameplay: It's like most other RPGs. Go around, kill things, get EXP and Gil, and level up! You go into towns and buy Weapons, Armor, Spells and Items. Certain classes equip certain equipment and spells (if they even learn spells). It's so much like all the other RPGs so I'm not going into too much detail. At first the game is SLOW, but once you reach Elfland, the game magically speeds up. After this, the game starts to pick up and is fun. Unfortunately the DoS version is easy. In fact, my White Wizard has 903 HP! She's lv. 71.

Characters: The characters are blank slates, and have no personalities, but if you are creative, you can give them any personality you want. The classes you choose are Fighter, Black Mage, White Mage, Thief, Red Mage, and Black Belt. All of these characters have their strengths and weaknesses, except for Red Mage and Black Belt. They suck.

Graphics: What can I say? Excellent graphics for the GBA.

Sound: The music is really good. This is Nobuo Uematsu's first work for the series, and it's not his best, but it's still great.

Replay Value: The best team is arguably, Fighter, Thief, White Mage, and Black Mage, but you can use whichever classes you want. Want to create a party full of Black Mages, or are you looking for a challenge and want a party of White Mages? The choice is yours, and you can't change your characters jobs during the course of the game, so you're stuck with them until you start a new game. That is why this game's replay value is so high.

Overall Score: 4/5 This game is a great start to the series, and the DoS version for the GBA is great. Black Mages rule.

Final Fantasy II Edit

This is considered, by many, to be the dark horse or black sheep of the series. I'm goind to review FF2 from the DoS GBA version, because it is by far the best version of FF2.

Plot: The plot's okay. It's a Star Wars-like plot. You are four orphans(why are they always orphans?) who join a rebel army and fight the Empire. Again, if you want a real plot summary, go to the game's main page. The storyline is nice and simple, while still a little better than FF1 and even FF3.

Gameplay: A lot of people are turned off by its skill system. The FF2 DoS surpasses the other FF2 games mainly because you do NOT have to attack your characters in order for them to get stronger, but if you do attack yourself, then your stats will go up faster. The characters' HP will randomly increase over time. I personally think that the skill-based levelling up system was a brave move for Square when they first made the game, and in theory it is a really good idea. It has only taken it a few years for the skill-based system to actually be kinda fun. A problem I still found was that magic was still terribly weak. The only instances in which magic was useful was 1) When you are fighting more than four weak enemies, 2) When the enemy has a very high defense, and 3) When an enemy is weak against a certain element. The lack of useful magic really hurts the battle system because constantly making the characters physically attack enemies over and over again is boring.

Characters: The characters have some personality, but Minwu just by himself has a lot more personality than all four of the main characters combined x2. The characters are all blank slates, so you can "teach" them whatever you want them to learn. Naturally Firion is the best with swords and is the most average, Maria is the best with magic, and Guy is the strongest physically and best with axes. However, you can make Maria good with spears, Firion good with white magic, and Guy good at black magic. Leon, on the other hand joins the party near the end of the game with TERRIBLE stats.

Graphics: The DoS version has really good graphics for the GBA, and some of the magic graphics look pretty cool.

Sound: Nobuo Uematsu did a great job with the soundtrack for this game. I really like the world map's theme.

Replay Value: Since you can make the characters whatever you want, it has a great replay value, but I never found myself replaying the game that much.

Overall Score: 4/5 The game isn't really as bad as they say, as long as you play the Dawn of Souls version.
