Uraeus is one of the initial Notorious Monsters added in Final Fantasy XIV. He is often regarded as the easiest open world notorious monster to kill, as he lacks extra minions with him.

Spawn Conditions

Uraeus will always spawn during the night in Coerthas and despawn the next morning if not killed, regardless of other factors. His general spawning area is south of Camp Glory.

Strategy

Uraeus will mostly use three moves during the whole fight together with his regular attack: Sand Breath is a area of effect frontal move that will hit anything in front of him for upwards of 1000 damage. Heavy Stomp will hit anything around him for 800ish damage, while Stone Gaze deals petrify.

Because of his breath, its advised to have the tank in front of him with two other tank-able members as backup on his sides. Should the main tank lose enmity, one of the side tanks must provoke him to prevent Uraeus from moving too far and hitting the mages with his breath.

The rest of the party attacks him from the front, to incapacitate its head. Conjurers and Thaumaturges often stay on the sides at a safe distance to heal and debuff. Like most notorious monsters, the main source of damage are Damage over Time spells and abilities, since they don't scale down with mob strength.

Etymology

The Uraeus is the stylized, upright form of an Egyptian cobra (asp, serpent, or snake) used as a symbol of sovereignty, royalty, deity, and divine authority in ancient Egypt.
