Sword that can only be used by chosen knights.
—Description, Final Fantasy IX.

The Ultima Blade (アルテマブレイド, Arutema Bureido?) is a recurring weapon in the Final Fantasy series. It generally takes the form of a greatsword, and despite it being named similarly to the Ultima Weapon, it is not the same weapon and can appear in the same game as the Ultima Weapon, albeit weaker.

AppearancesEdit

Final Fantasy XIIEdit

XII The Ultima Blade is a high-rank greatsword that provides 118 Attack, 7% Combo Rate, and +10 Evade. All greatswords have 2.47s charge, and 1.2s action time, making them average when it comes to attacking speed.

It can be bought for 22,800 gil at the Bazaar after trading in Adamantite x2, Death Powder x2, and a Gnoma Halcyon, or found as a treasure at Pharos. It requires 90 LP and the Greatswords 3 license in order to equip.

In the International Zodiac Job System version, the Ultima Blade now provides 109 Attack and 20 Evade. It can be found inside a treasure pot on the Third Ascent of the Pharos at Ridorana. The Ultima Blade can only be equipped by the Knight and Red Mage jobs, although the Red Mage must obtain the license for Chaos first.

Final Fantasy XVEdit

XV The Ultima Blade is obtained by having Cid Sophiar upgrade Noctis's starting weapon, the Engine Blade, three times through the A Better Engine Blade sidequests.

EtymologyEdit

Ultima is Latin, and in many of today's Latin-based languages, for "The Last", in its feminine sense. However in the Spanish versions of many Final Fantasy games the spell name is "Artema", a closer transliteration of the original Japanese katakana.
