Template:Sideicon Template:FFXIII-2 Enemies Template:See Also Ugallu is an enemy in Final Fantasy XIII-2. It can be encountered in the southwest part of Yaschas Massif -110 AF- even if its associated quest is not active. All ten Crimson Memories-category fragments must be collected before an eleventh orb-shaped time distortion appears on the outskirts of the Archaeopolis, giving the quest to kill Ugallu.

Battle

Ugallu can be dangerous foe to face. It begins battle by using Roar, giving itself many beneficial status effects that cannot be dispelled. It will then begin attacking the party, alternating between physical attacks and Virulent Breath, which inflicts several status ailments. Ugallu uses moderately powerful area-of-effect (AoE) attacks; after the first stagger, its attacks come in even more rapid succession.

It deals high damage to multiple targets at once, fast.

Strategy

Deploying a Sentinel is one of the damage control options. In particular, a Sentinel with Fringeward, such as Bunkerbeast, will give additional protection against the area attacks. Delta Attack (RAV/COM/SEN) is an ideal paradigm as it reduces area of effect damage while building a fast chain. The tension is between the need for defensive and offensive options; the more defense is required, the lower the party's offense, the slower the battle and the more elusive the rewards offered by stagger.

The boost Ugallu gains from the Roar ability cannot be removed, but it can be countered with a Saboteur who can inflict ailments such as Deprotect and Deshell on him. If a Saboteur is used, it will boost the chain, perhaps as much as the main attacking paradigm. Sentinel's damage reduction combines well with Medic to keep HP stable, and a Medic can cure the various status ailments Ugallu inflicts with Virulent Breath. A Synergist is a final option, capable of increasing allies' damage and decreasing enemy damage.

Ugallu can be a threat if one finds little time to intercept with a chain building paradigm. The goal is to take the brunt of his attacks with the Sentinel and build up his stagger slowly but surely. All-out offensive paradigms are counterindicated; even once stagger is achieved, he can still cause a great deal of damage.

Etymology

Ugallu was a lion-headed storm-demon and has the feet of a bird who featured on protective amulets and apotropaic yellow clay or tamarisk figurines of the first millennium BC but had its origins in the early second millennium.
