Tyrannosaur, also known as Tyrasaur and Tyrasaurus, is a boss in Final Fantasy V. It is fought when the party sees it threatening a moogle in a cave. In the Advance and the now discontinued 2013 versions, it can also be fought in the Cloister of the Dead.

Stats[]

Battle[]

The Tyrannosaur is an undead. It attacks physically and its Critical Attack does higher damage. The Tyrannosaur counters every attack with an attack of its own. If attacked physically, it will counter with its physical attack, but if attacked with magic, it will counter with Poison Breath, which causes poison to the party in addition to the ~300 damage.

Strategy[]

Tyrannosaur can easily be killed by the use of an Elixir or Phoenix Down. A Phoenix Down is located within a treasure chest right before reaching the Tyrannosaur.

If the player wishes to fight it normally, they should be careful. Its attacks are manageable with a strong healer and physical jobs. Monks and Dragoons are the best for damage due to Focus and Jump, which can deal massive damage. Monks also have innate Counter, so they can use their turns for Focus, and then deal the damage with counters, which is useful to avoid the Tyrannosaur's own counters.

Tyrannosaur is vulnerable to the Blue Magic spell Death Claw, which reduces its HP enough that a single follow-up blow will finish it.
