Treasure Hunter Rank is a ranking system in Final Fantasy IX, which measures the amount of treasures the player has obtained during the playthrough. Upon reaching the highest possible rank the player can meet up with Gilgamesh in Daguerreo, who will reward the party with the Rank S Award key item.

The treasure hunting ranking is determined by a point system:

  • 1 point for every opened chest, searched field icon, and item gained in an event sequence, and every key item purchased in Treno Auction House (with the exception of Magical Fingertip and Pearl Rouge).
  • 2 points for every chest found on the world map while riding Choco.

No points are given for items dug in the Chocobo Hot and Cold minigame, or items bought from Stiltzkin.

To find out the current rank, the player can talk to a woman in Treno inn, or Gilgamesh in Daguerreo.

Etymology

Treasure is a concentration of riches, often one which is considered lost or forgotten until being rediscovered.
