Traveling alone, Kain pauses to reflect on the growing number of manikins and thinks he has to hurry to hide the others. In a flashback, Kain meets Golbez, who has come to see how he is faring against the manikins. Kain asks if Golbez is content with Chaos's victory and the end of the world, but Golbez reveals the war is an endless cycle, and thus the world is safe because it will continue as long as the wars do. Kain does not believe it, and Golbez tells him he has been defeated and revived once already, the process purging his memories of the past cycles. Golbez explains that when warriors are newly called to fight they have no memories of their homeworld, and remember more as they fight - that Kain remembers him and Cecil is proof he has fought before and regained his memories. Cecil arrives, thinking Kain is being attacked, and Golbez departs as Cecil attempts to strike him, leaving Kain to question Cecil about his weak memories and deduce Golbez has told the truth.
Continuing on Kain finds Firion and the two travel together, Kain maintaining a stoic demeanor in regards to his ally. Though Firion asks about the state of their comrades and mentions he has heard of their defeats, Kain does not reveal his hand in these events. Fighting their way through several gateways, Kain eventually turns on Firion and attacks him. As Firion lays wounded, Exdeath appears and questions Kain's decision to betray his allies, yet not side with Chaos. Kain accuses Exdeath of wishing to learn where his fallen comrades are hidden, and refuses to assist him. The two battle, and Exdeath departs as he conjures several manikins of Kain to attack him. Kain prepares to face off against the enemy as the storyline ends.

There is no way to chain all five enemies here at once, but the player can chain four of them by either using a Cross Chain at B3, Jump Chain at C3 or a Multichain at B3 or D2.
There is only one way to chain all four enemies here - use the Jump skill to jump to D3, and chain them manually without skills. The enemies here have accessories that allow them to quickly fill their EX Gauge, especially when they are in Break status, so as Kain mentions Assist attacks are helpful to deplete their gauge
