XI Transcendency is a beneficial status effect in Final Fantasy XI gained by using the Abyssea-specific temporary item Primeval Brew. The Transcendent one "converge[s] with the primordial forces of nature", and gains godlike power. Most stats increase nearly tenfold—Strength, Dexterity, Agility, Vitality, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma all increase to 999; HP and MP increase to 9999; Magic Attack Bonus is boosted by +900; and Damage Taken is reduced by -90%. Furthermore, the Transcendent one's HP and MP regenerate at 300/tick, and TP are gained at a rate of 500/tick (allowing the use of a Weapon Skill roughly every 6 seconds).

With such staggering might, nearly any monster in Abyssea can be killed solo with ease (the remaining monsters can be killed solo with reasonable caution and care). Transcendent players are still subject to status effects, and can be completely incapacitated or killed in this way.

Transcendency does not wear off upon death, but only lasts for three minutes. Transcendency does not give any bonuses whatsoever to pets, or overcome the absolute inability of double-Weakened players do deal damage in any way.

EtymologyEdit

In philosophy, the adjective transcendental and the noun transcendence convey the basic ground concept from the word's literal meaning (from Latin), of climbing or going beyond, albeit with varying connotations in its different historical and cultural stages. In religion, transcendence refers to the aspect of God's nature and power which is wholly independent of (and removed from) the material universe.

TriviaEdit

  • At one time, status effect timers were paused while interacting with an NPC or field object, and players would routinely use this to wring the maximum possible use out of Transcendency (and Embrava) statuses. The transcendent player would interact with a convenient Veridical Conflux or Sturdy Pyxide as soon as they killed a Notorious Monster, then they would wait with paused status for their allies to pop and pull another one, kill it, etc. until their status timer finally ran out. Square Enix eventually patched the game to remove this feature.
  • The Primeval Brew needed to gain Transcendency costs 200,000 Cruor each time it is used. Accordingly, wasting it is a foolish thing to do and players who do so are often mocked.
