Tongue (舌 (or ベロ), Shita (or Bero)?) is a recurring enemy ability in the series. It can inflict Statuss when it connects, or deal non-elemental damage to one party member. Its cousin, Lick (なめる, Nameru?), also known as Lash, can also inflict various statuses to one party member, but usually does not inflict damage.

Final Fantasy IVEdit
Tongue, called Lick in the PS version, inflicts non-elemental damage and Sleep to one party member. It is used only by the Naga enemies.
Final Fantasy IV -Interlude-Edit
Tongue returns in the sequel, it is once again used by the Naga enemy and functions the same way.
Final Fantasy IV: The After YearsEdit
Tongue returns as an enemy ability used by Naga and related enemies, it does the same thing as its predecessors.
Final Fantasy VEdit
Lick, used by Poltergeist and Mindflusher, inflicts minor non-elemental damage and Sap to one party member.
Final Fantasy VIEdit
Lick, originally called Lash, is an enemy ability that inflicts Silence on one party member. It is used by Litwor Chicken. Another version of Lick, used by Medusa Chicken, inflicts Petrify on one party member. Tongue, used by Leap Frog, inflicts Sap on a party member. Tongue Lash, used by Fafnir, inflicts Sap on a party member.
Final Fantasy VIIEdit
Tongue, used by Unknown, inflicts major non-elemental damage to one party member. Lick, used by Aps, inflicts minor non-elemental damage as well as Sadness to one party member.
Final Fantasy VIIIEdit
Lick, used by Abadon, inflicts non-elemental physical damage as well as Curse to one party member.
Final Fantasy IXEdit
Tongue, used by Bandersnatch and Basilisk, inflicts Sleep to one party member.
Final Fantasy XIIEdit
Blitz Tongue, used by Abaddon, Bull Abaddon, and Tarasque, inflicts non-elemental damage and may inflict knockback on hit. It is also a short ranged attack.
Final Fantasy TacticsEdit
Lick is usable by the Malboro and only by the Ochu when an ally with the Monster Skill ability is next to it. Adds Reflect status with 100% success rate. See also enemy abilities.
Final Fantasy Legend IIEdit
Tongue is a special attack that has 30 uses, it also increases a Robot's HP by 9. The damage formula for Tongue is the user's Str x6. This attack can be used by Cameleon, GianToad, HugeToad, KingToad, P-Toad, and Toad.
Final Fantasy Legend IIIEdit
Tongue is a physical attack that damages one enemy. F-Liz., Angler, BulbFish, and Dahak can use this attack.
Final Fantasy All the BravestEdit
Lick is the enemy ability that is used by the Leap Frog during battle.
