|Final Fantasy X-2 Enemy|
- Normal: "A fiend that roams about by the light of its lantern. Don't be fooled by its tranquil demeanor. It's a vicious and persistent attacker."
Oversoul: "A fiend that roams about by the light of its lantern. It fires off magic and jabs its enemies with its Chef's Knife."
Tonberry is an enemy in Final Fantasy X-2 found in Mushroom Rock Road. It is generally not a good idea to fight it in Chapters 1 and 2 because the party is fairly weak to take down an enemy with 9,999 HP. Tonberries are also found wandering the halls of Via Infinito.
The player should be careful if a Tonberry gets Oversouled, because it has almost forty thousand health points.
The girls should be equipped with with strong dresspheres, such as the Warrior, so they can do a lot of damage quickly. They should hit it hard and fast with their strongest attacks. If the party has a Cat Nip, one shot from a girl in HP Critical health will kill it.
Tonberries are a special enemy in Via Infinito. They can be found on any floor, but never in any random battles. They will be walking the halls, and if the player comes in contact with one a battle ensues. Sometimes, fighting a Tonberry is required to complete the floor, and occasionally, fighting one will teleport the player closer to the exit.
The player can encounter a regular Tonberry, with a tiny Tonberry standing beside it. If the player talks to this duo they get a free item.
In the Fiend Tale endings, a notable Tonberry reveals much about his kind being rare fiends who were often left alone by other fiends despite having a short life span. It would turn out that was due to Tonberries having a nasty habit of stabbing each other for no good reason, ultimately being their own worst enemy when gathered in one area.
