The Tonberry is an enemy in Final Fantasy VIII encountered only in the Centra Ruins. After defeating 18 - 22 Tonberries, a battle against the Tonberry King will immediately begin. Defeating the King will grant the player the Tonberry GF.

Note: You can leave the ruins and the counter will not revert to zero.

Tonberries will counter most attacks with Everyone's Grudge, an attack which is directly related to the number of enemies the character has disposed of up until that point and then is multiplied by 20. When it walks forward at least five times, it will randomly attack a party member with its knife, dealing high amount of damage, or it might fall over, losing a turn. If you find that your standard spells and attacks are not doing much damage, you may wish to consider using Demi or the summon Diabolos, as it is not immune to the Gravity element.
