The story is based on Jack and the Beanstalk.

Volume 1: Leapin' on Leaves[]

Story[]

Prologue[]

Once upon a time, there was a young boy who lived with his mother. One day, she asked her son to run a special errand, handing him some money.

He slipped the gil into his favorite pouch, tied it around his belt, and started heading down the road.

Just as he was beginning to hum his favorite tune, a group of pugnacious men slipped out of the nearby shadows.

"If ye favor those pretty ears on yer head, hand over all yer gil!"

They were thieves! The boy could do nothing, and lost both his favorite pouch and his mother's money.

After the thieves sped off, the boy noticed a small, peculiar bean lying on the side of the road. It sparkled with all the colors of the rainbow. The boy sighed and picked it up before heading home.

After he told his mother what happened, she kindly replied,"What's done is done, my dear son. Do not worry. Those thieves have been causing trouble for everyone these days. I'm just happy you made it back safely."

Soothed by his mother's kind words, he headed upstairs to his room and flicked the mysterious bean out of his window before going to sleep. It fell softly into the garden below.

Overnight, something amazing happened! The bean gave birth to an amazing stalk that towered high into the heavens above...

Epilogue 1: Magic Beans[]

When the boy reached the top of the beanstalk, he found himself at Titan's shrine! It was full of treasure beyond imagination.

Back on the surface, the thieves were arguing fiercely over how to split their stolen stash.

Stealing has gotten those nasty thieves nowhere.

---

The boy, once saddened by having his mother's money stolen from him, slipped into the sleeping Titan's vault and snatched a batch of magic beans, bringing up his spirits at last.

Epilogue 2: Bombs Away[]

The boy had climbed high up the beanstalk, and from the clouds, his house down below looked like a tiny bean.

At that moment, the boy noticed something snagged onto the stalk. It was his stolen pouch!

He opened it up, but much to his dismay, he found it to be completely empty.

Just then a group of bomb monsters appeared, surrounding the beanstalk.

"Titan's shrine is up above!"

"We'll blast anybody who tries to get through!"

---

The boy realized that Titan was the one in charge of the thieves! He was behind the whole sinister scheme!

The boy deftly dodged the incoming bombs and made his way to the temple at the top of the beanstalk.

While Titan slept, the boy made off with as much stolen treasure as he could carry. He had to return it to the townsfolk!

The bombs, true to their nature (and especially angry about letting the boy escape), self-destructed in a spectacular display.

Epilogue 3: Decisions[]

When the boy reached the top of the beanstalk, he found himself at Titan's shrine!

As the terrible tyrant slept soundly, the boy snuck into the treasure vault.

Inside the vault, amongst the heaps of artifacts and gems, was an exceptionally large treasure chest as well as an especially small one.

While the boy pondered over which one to pilfer, another group of thieves suddenly charged into the room and grabbed a hold of the larger chest.

The boy, slightly dismayed, opened up the smaller chest. Much to his surprise, the inside of the box was laden with jewels!

---

Seeing the contents of the smaller chest, the thieves snickered with glee and opened the lid of their box.

"There be treasure in here! We just know it!"

However, just as the chest cracked open, a tangle of vines leaped out and ensnared the evildoers.

"By Titan's moldy maw! Help us outta here!"

Greediness had gotten those nasty thieves nowhere.

The Game[]

The general idea of the game is to get Chocobo, to reach the top of the bean stalk by drawing "elastic" leaves for him to jump on while not hitting the Bombs. Small leaves a more elastic than bigger ones.

Battle Mode[]

In battle mode, Chocobo must race Jailbirds to the top of the bean stalk. The winner is the one who reaches the top first

Trial Mode[]

In trial mode, Chocobo must jump as high as he can while avoiding the bombs scattered around the course. If he hits them three times, the game is over.

Volume 2: Scurry Down the Stalk[]

Story[]

Prologue[]

The boy had made it to the top of the magic beanstalk and into Titan’s shrine. The boy could hear the cacophonous snoring of the fiendish ogre rumbling through the dark halls.

The boy gathered his courage and took advantage of the situation, slipping into Titan's vault and snatching some treasure.

"I did it!"

Suddenly, the boy’s joyous moment was brought to a screeching halt.

Titan had stopped snoring.

"Fee, fi, fo, fum, I smell the blood of a dead man!"

"Uh-oh!"

Titan stormed after the boy with his bomb servants closely in tow.

Would the boy make it back down the beanstalk in one piece?

Epilogue 1: Titanic Rage[]

The boy made it down the beanstalk at an incredible pace, with the townsfolk's treasure tucked tightly under his arm.

Titan, moving at a frenzied, uncontrollable pace, lost his mighty grip in the vine. After falling several dozen stories, he smashed through the ground and fell deep below into the underworld, knocking himself out for weeks.

The boy reached the town and returned the treasure that had been stolen by Titan. Everyone was overjoyed and a festival was held to celebrate!

---

Deep underground, Titan finally came back to his senses. He used the dirt and rock that surrounded him to build a new shrine.

But whenever he remembered the day the boy had bested him, he would stomp and bang the floors of the shrine.

Very few people know that this is actually what causes earthquakes.

Epilogue 2: Golden Goose[]

The boy made it down the beanstalk at an incredible pace, with the townsfolk's treasure tucked tightly under his arm.

Titan, moving at a frenzied, uncontrollable pace, lost his mighty grip in the vine. After falling several dozen stories, he smashed through the ground and fell deep below into the underworld, knocking himself out for weeks.

The boy returned the treasure to the townsfolk, and everyone was overjoyed. Amongst the treasure was a peculiar goose.

---

The goose stayed close to the boy at all times, so he was left with no choice but to take it home and care for it.

The goose turned out to be magic! Every day, it laid a single, beautiful golden egg.

Thanks to the golden eggs, the boy became fabulously rich and lived happily ever after.

Epilogue 3: Imperfections[]

The boy made it down the beanstalk at an incredible pace, with the townsfolk's treasure tucked tightly under his arm.

Titan, moving at a frenzied, uncontrollable pace, lost his mighty grip in the vine. After falling several dozen stories, he smashed through the ground and fell deep below into the underworld, knocking himself out for weeks.

The treasure that the boy had taken from Titan's shrine was not all gold and silver, however.

There were two very special bags. On contained the "imperfections of oneself," and the second contained "imperfections of others."

---

As he carried the bags back to the village, the boy kept the bag containing the "imperfections of others" in front of him, while making sure the "imperfections of oneself" were slung over his shoulder, out of sight.

Because of this, all people would come to ignore their own imperfections and only concern themselves with those of the people around them.

Titan, with all of his imperfections stolen by the boy, grew stronger and stronger below the ground.

Very few people know this is the reason that earthquakes are impossible to predict and almost impossible to defend against.

The Game[]

The player must guide Chocobo down the beanstalk by drawing leaves to direct him, all the while gathering coins and avoiding Titan. Only diagonal leaves will work – Chocobo will simply fall through horizontal or vertical leaves. Spheres throughout the course will cause Chocobo to speed up or slow down if touched.

Battle Mode[]

In battle mode, the players each compete to collect coins. The one with the most at the end is the winner.

Trial Mode[]

In trial mode, Chocobo must collect as many coins possible before reaching the bottom or being knocked out by Titan.
