By Master Xande's orders, you will be crushed!!!
—Titan

Titan is a boss in Final Fantasy III. He guards the Earth Crystal in the Ancients' Maze, possibly a creation of said Crystal, forced to work for Xande or corrupted by darkness.

Titan will mostly use physical attacks that can deal a great deal of damage to the party. He also has the ability to cast Quake to damage the whole party at once. The party's best chances of surviving are to have a party of Dragoons and a White Mage to heal. Once Titan is defeated, the party receives the last batch of Jobs: Summoner, Magus, Devout, Black Belt (DS version only), Sage (DS version only), and Ninja (DS version only).

Phlegethon appears as the final boss of the Crystal Tower: Labyrinth of the Ancients raid. When fought, a rearranged version of "Battle 2" plays as the boss theme.

Despite the enemy being known as Phlegethon in the localization of Final Fantasy XIV, the enemy was known as Titan in the Japanese version. The enemy's name was changed by the localization team due to the Primal Titan already being included in the game.

Etymology Edit

Titans were members of the second order of divine beings in Greek mythology. They were descendants of the primordial deities born from the Chaos, and they preceded the gods of Olympus, who went on to overthrow them.
