XII

Battlemages who wield crossbows and bend time to their will.
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age description

Timebattle Mage, is a License Board in the Zodiac versions of Final Fantasy XII. It is represented by the zodiac sign of Libra.

The Time Battlemage has access to 135 licenses, which require 7,681 LP to unlock, as well as up to 12 additional licenses through summon licenses costing 810 LP, and 1 additional license costing 50 LP through Quickening licenses.

ProfileEdit

Time Battlemages are a magick class, primarily using Time Magicks. They use the ranged crossbow as their main weapon, and equip heavy armor. They can switch to several types of swords for a more physical focus. They are also capable of using all Green Magick spells and have access to numerous augments.

However, their main weapons are severely impacted by certain weather conditions and they have few offensive and recovery spells, as well as low HP.

In The Zodiac Age version, the player can use two license boards for each party member. A good combination to use with Time Battlemage is Knight, as the Time Battlemage's three Swiftness licenses benefit the slow Knight and its magick power makes better use of the Knight's White Magick, making for a strong attacker that still has many support abilities. Because this combination can't equip mystic armor, it's advisable to give it to someone with high natural magick power (Ashe, Penelo, Vaan). Magick Power affects the hit rate of spells that don't already have perfect hit rate, and thus is relevant for Time Battlemage's Decoy and the status-inducing Time Magick.

A similarly powerful combination is to pair Time Battlemage with Monk. Pairing Time Battlemage with White Mage creates a support character who can use both mystic and heavy armor and short-range and long-range weapons. However, having different characters concentrate on healing and buffing can work better for some of the harder battles, as trying to do both on the same character may have them struggle to keep up. Combining Time Battlemage with Bushi also allows the character to wear either mystic or heavy armor to suit their situation, and use crossbows or a katana for both short- and long-range fighting.

EtymologyEdit

In the original Japanese, the job is referred to as Timespace Warmage (時空魔戦士, Jikū Masenshi?), while it is referred to as 'Time Battlemage' in The Zodiac Age release likely to emphasize its additional melee capabilities and differentiate it further from the standard Time Mage which focuses more heavily on casting.
