Template:Dissidia Character

A cheerful teen whose personality is bright like the sun above, Tidus possesses the heart of an ace athlete. His main goal is to defeat his father, whom he detests to no end.

Dissidia 012 Description

A light-hearted, cheerful youth able to calm others even through the most trying situations.

Description

Tidus was once another minion of Chaos during Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy, but he became a hero fighting for the side of Cosmos in Dissidia Final Fantasy. Tidus is a lighthearted, cheerful youth who follows his father's footsteps as an ace blitzball player for the Zanarkand Abes.

In battle, he is an agile fighter who easily dodges opponents' attacks as he performs his own. While he appears cheerful to his allies Firion, Cecil, and Cloud, his weak point is his emotions concerning his father and nemesis, Jecht. He seeks to fight and defeat his father to prove himself and settle his hatred.

Attire and Crystal

Tidus's default outfit is similar to the one he wore in Final Fantasy X but darker and more "torn" to resemble his artwork (Yoshitaka Amano artwork of Tidus) by Yoshitaka Amano. He has dirty blond hair, wears a torn pair of black trousers with a yellow hooded shirt with the left sleeve torn off, instead covering his arm with a dark blue pauldron and a gauntlet. He wears a pendant with the Zanarkand Abes insignia, which also appears on his trousers.

Tidus's first alternate outfit, named "Zanarkand Abes Uni", is based on his original Final Fantasy X appearance (Tidus's original Final Fantasy X appearance). In Dissidia Final Fantasy his clothes and hair are colored brighter, but in Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy the outfit is altered to be even more similar to his original appearance. His socks are shorter, the tears along the bottom of his shorts and the top of his collar are gone, and he wears a different gauntlet. In his first Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy alternate outfit's caption, he has the same pose as in his promotional poster from Final Fantasy X.

Tidus's second alternative outfit "Fleeting Dream" is based on an alternate Amano arwork (Yoshitaka Amano artwork of Tidus) of Tidus. He is shirtless with even-length shorts, wears a differently designed gauntlet and has red bandages wrapped around his arms. This is Tidus's primary attire in Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy while a Warrior of Chaos. In this outfit, he has the pose featured on the artwork that originated the costume.

Tidus's Crystal is a blue Sphere, identical in appearance to the movie spheres from Final Fantasy X.

Tidus's manikin version, Ephemeral Vision, is orange.

Twelfth cycle

Template:Sideicon The twelfth cycle of war was hinted to be the first cycle in which Tidus participated. Tidus fights on the side of Chaos alongside Terra and Cloud and since most of the warriors' memories were wiped, Tidus doesn't remember his past with Yuna when he runs into her in Pandemonium. When Yuna calls him by name Tidus runs off, finding Jecht.

Jecht saves Tidus

Jecht gives Tidus his light.

Chaos had summoned Tidus to defeat his father. Before the two can battle Yuna intervenes and tries to talk sense into Tidus, but he claims his conflict with Jecht has nothing to do with her. Yuna restores his memories and the Emperor appears, Tidus pushing Yuna out of the way to take the Flare meant for her. As he begins to fade, Tidus asks his father to take care of Yuna. Jecht saves Tidus by giving him Cosmos's light before being taken by the Emperor.

Tidus is brought to Cosmos by Yuna, Vaan, and Laguna to become one of her warriors.

Tidus Cecil Firion dissidia

Tidus, Firion, and Cecil watch Cloud as he leaves.

After the battle with the Warriors of Chaos, Tidus finds himself allied with Firion, Cecil, and Cloud. Out of the four, Tidus is the most upbeat and determined. When Cloud leaves to find his reason for fighting, the three encourage him. Firion and Cecil worry over Tidus's plans to fight his father, Jecht. Though Tidus declares to not care for his father, he does not mind sparing Golbez, Cecil's brother, who is also aligned with Chaos, and encourages Cecil to go and meet him.

After Cecil's departure Tidus tries to hide this from Firion, who knows all too well why Cecil left. Tidus asks what the wild rose is for, but Firion is reluctant to answer. Tidus asks about Firion's goal in life and he answers to end the war. The two encounter a group of enemies, and separate to divide them up. After Tidus finishes his share he looks for Firion before running into his father. The two are about to fight when the Emperor appears, telling Jecht that facing his son is meaningless. Jecht leaves and Tidus directs his hatred to the Emperor. They fight to a draw before the Emperor leaves telling Tidus that he cannot obtain the Crystal through hate alone.

Tidus finds Firion who has fought Jecht and decides to let him fight his father. The two later witness a fight between Jecht and the Emperor, with the latter blaming the former for ruining his plans before leaving. Jecht is left wounded and Tidus decides not to fight him and resolves to fight his father alone despite feeling bad about leaving Firion, who gives him a potion.

Tidus Jecht fight

Tidus fights his father, Jecht.

Tidus encounters Jecht in Dream's End and heals Jecht's wounds with the potion before insulting him for not being a true father-figure to him, and tells Jecht he wants to win against him without handicaps. They fight, and Jecht sends Tidus flying. He declares Tidus still has a lot to learn and that he will be "up on [his] feet by tomorrow". As he is about to leave Tidus declares that tomorrow will never come unless he beats his father right there and then. They engage in a second round, and Jecht is defeated. Tidus tells his father the reason behind his hatred and eagerness to fight: to show him he had toughened up. Jecht admits this, though still considers Tidus a "crybaby". Tidus receives his Crystal before Jecht disappears.

Tidus finds the Emperor preparing to strike down a wounded Firion. Joined by Cloud, who has defeated Sephiroth, Tidus announces that "a friend's dream is our dream" before they protect Firion. Outnumbered, the Emperor flees, but not before taunting Firion to come to his stronghold. Firion resolves to face the Emperor alone to end it, and Tidus promises he and the others will be waiting for him after Cloud returns his wild rose. Tidus and Cloud meet up with Squall to reunite with the other warriors of Cosmos, and he tells the other two his story with Cloud reminding that his story continues. Tidus meets Bartz and asks about remembering his home world, with Bartz only remembering his feather.

Dissidia Tidus Ending

Tidus saying goodbye to the rest of the heroes in the ending.

After Cosmos's destruction, Tidus joins the other nine heroes to make their way to the Land of Discord to defeat Chaos. Tidus meets his father again, who tells him that an ace saves the play in the nick of time. After defeating him in another match, before disappearing, Jecht tells him to "shoot" (for goal) even if he is confused—then surely tomorrow will come.

After the Warrior of Light tells his friends he lacks memories, Tidus says there is more to memories than what happened before they got there, and that it would be nice to remember fighting alongside them. After Chaos's defeat, the ten heroes find themselves in the field of flowers and each fade into their respective worlds, with Tidus returning to Spira. Before he goes, he tells his friends not to worry since the Crystals know the rest of the way, and that he will always be with them. He jumps off a lakeside ledge and fades before hitting the water.

Official Quests

In "Vaan's Quest 012: A Voice to Call Back", Tidus, having no memories as he was just summoned, comes across Vaan. Tidus reluctantly decides to fight when they realize they're on opposing sides, but asks Vaan about his memories. Their battle allows Tidus to remember the name "Jecht", and Vaan tells Tidus there is a Warrior of Cosmos with such a name. Confused over the name's significance, in "Tidus' Quest 012: A Dream in Chaos," Tidus begins to go see Chaos about the matter after talking to Cloud, when the Emperor confronts him. The Emperor tells Tidus more memories will return as he fights, and offers himself as a sparring opponent. Their battle allows Tidus to remember Jecht is a father he hates, and the Emperor sends him to find Jecht so Tidus can take out his hatred on him.

In "Kain's Quest 012: A Dragoon's Betrayal" Tidus encounters Kain, who had just defeated Squall. Tidus asks if he is killing his allies and whether Jecht is a target. Kain does not answer, but tells Tidus he should hurry and fight Jecht before Kain does. Tidus runs off, proclaiming the only person to defeat Jecht is himself.

"Sephiroth's Quest 013: Shape of the World" shows Sephiroth's attack on Firion, Tidus and Cecil when he stole Firion's wild rose. "Cecil's Quest 013: Even I Don't Remember It" focuses on Tidus, Cecil, Terra, Cloud and the Onion Knight traveling together after finding their Crystals, until Kuja alerts them that Firion is about to confront the Emperor, when Tidus and Cloud leave to help him.

Spoilers end here.

Battle

Template:See Also Tidus's battle style is Spry Striker, a style based on his standard characteristics in Final Fantasy X. That is, his section of the Sphere Grid corresponds to that of a Warrior, but one who trades some Strength for Agility and Evasion. Many of Tidus's attacks have him to jump or dodge before attacking, letting him swiftly dodge enemy attacks and counter with his own in the same movement. His Bravery attacks consist of fast-paced sword combos and blitzball throws, and his HP attacks are his Swordplay Overdrives and the famous Jecht Shot. He has excellent ground movement, and is only slower than Prishe or the Onion Knight.

Tidus is mostly a melee fighter, as most of his ranged attacks are mid-ranged, and he has slow recovery when attacking. Because most of his attacks cause him to dodge before striking, this has the inadvertent effect of giving a lag between when the player inputs a command and when Tidus actually attacks. He may not be ideal for players who like to attack at the moment the command is input, but he can be dangerous in the hands of players who like to counter and punish opponents' whiffs, or bait the opponent into a certain attack.

Boss

Tidus is fought in Distant Glory and Inward Chaos.

EX Mode

Tidus's EX Mode.
Blitz Ace

Tidus's EX Mode is Equipped Caladbolg, where he exchanges the Brotherhood for his Celestial Weapon from Final Fantasy X. Tidus gains the abilities "Mirror Dash", "Caladbolg (ATK)", and "Caladbolg (DODGE)". Mirror Dash increases Tidus's movement speed by 25%, provides Tidus a new running animation, and gives him Block Low priority when running, deflecting Ranged Low attacks. The Caladbolg abilities boost the Bravery damage Tidus does depending on how much HP he has in relation to his max HP, doubling his Attack at full HP, and doubles the duration of invincibility during his dodges.

Tidus's EX Burst is Blitz Ace, his ultimate Overdrive from Final Fantasy X. Tidus attacks the opponent with a sword combo and sets up the final blitzball attack by hitting it at the opponent with his left hand. The ball rebounds towards Tidus, infused in a field of energy, and the player must press Template:Dissidia button to stop a moving cursor as close to the center of Tidus's Overdrive meter as they can. Successfully completing the move causes Tidus to launch the ball back at the opponent with an overhead kick, consuming him or her in an explosion of light. The Bravery damage can be boosted by stopping the cursor closer to the center of the Overdrive meter, and when Tidus has full HP, Blitz Ace is one of the most powerful EX Bursts in the game.

Equipment

Tidus can equip Swords, Grappling Weapons, Shields, Bangles, Hats, Helms, Clothing, and Light Armor. In Dissidia 012, Tidus can also equip Daggers, Thrown Weapons, Headbands, and Chestplates.

  • Tidus returns to Spira by jumping into a lake with his arms wide open, disappearing before he hits the water, similar to the ending of Final Fantasy X where he jumps off the deck of the Fahrenheit.
  • Tidus's Destiny Odyssey X is narrated by Tidus as a flashback, in the same fashion as how the story in Final Fantasy X is told to the player.
  • The scene in Destiny Odyssey X when Tidus yells out of frustration is based on the event at Kilika Temple when he yells out loud.
  • When fighting the Emperor in Destiny Odyssey, the song "Fight with Seymour" plays alluding to Tidus's antagonism to Seymour, who bore similarities to the Emperor in appearance and personality. (For this same reason, this also occurs when Yuna fights the Emperor in her own story mode.)
  • Tidus's exclusive weapons refer Wakka. His strongest weapon, the "World Champion", is the name of Wakka's Celestial Weapon in Final Fantasy X, and is the blitzball used by Tidus's villainous lookalike Shuyin in Final Fantasy X-2. Tidus's beginning weapon, the Official Ball, is Wakka's starting weapon from Final Fantasy X, and his other two exclusive weapons, Striker and Grand Slam, are also blitzballs used by Wakka.
  • Before leaving Firion to fight Jecht in Destiny Odyssey X, Tidus says, "I don't mean to sounds selfish, but this is my story", referring to the line he says at the end of Final Fantasy X before the battle with Yu Yevon. "I know it sounds selfish, but this is my story".
  • While moving in EX Mode, Tidus's movements and animations are faster even when standing still, a reference to the character models in Final Fantasy X which move faster while under the effects of Haste.
  • Quick Hit is a fitting name for Tidus's Bravery to HP combo, as it is the final skill available in Tidus's section of the Sphere Grid in Final Fantasy X.
  • Tidus's Bravery attacks, which can chain to Quick Hit, all involve a dodge followed by an attack, much like the weapon ability Evade and Counter in Final Fantasy X. This ability is one of four attached to his Celestial Weapon, Caladbolg.
  • Whenever Tidus does his Blitz Ace, the background breaks away like shattering glass, in the same manner as the beginning of a random battle in Final Fantasy X.
  • In Shade Impulse C3-5, Tidus asks the Warrior of Light to remember they have fought together every now and again, even when they return to their own worlds. This is based on a line from Yuna's speech in the ending of Final Fantasy X: "The people and the friends that we have lost, or the dreams that have faded... Never forget them".
  • Tidus's victory pose, a backflip and then throwing his sword into the air and catching it, combines his two victory poses from Final Fantasy X: he backflips when fighting underwater and throws and catches his sword when fighting on land.
  • Tidus exclaims "I'm the one and only ace here!" if fighting against himself, a line he said if a party member jumps onto Sin's back before he does during their attempt to break into Sin.
  • Tidus's Crystal looks like a movie sphere from Final Fantasy X.
  • In Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy when fighting a higher-level opponent, Tidus says "The amateur fighter enters the game", a reference to Wakka's comment that he's a "newbie" when it comes to fighting, which Tidus later teases him about.
  • When battling Ultimecia, she says "Your mouth will get you in trouble", a line said to Tidus by Lulu. Garland's introduction to Tidus is, "Better you fall down fate's spiral", referring to Sin's cycle of destruction and rebirth. Exdeath's intro is, "Your existence is nothing!", a possible reference to Tidus being a dream of the fayth. Tidus's line to Jecht after their battle in Destiny Odyssey X, "I'm your son, after all", mirrors what Jecht said to him in Final Fantasy X after the battle with him as Braska's Final Aeon.
  • Tidus's opening line against Lightning, "Look out, here comes a hero!", refers to both of their games. On his end, it is a quote he utters when he is swapped into battle by the player in Final Fantasy X.
  • Tidus's Brotherhood has bubbles rising from it. This alludes to Final Fantasy X where the Brotherhood has the Waterstrike ability.
  • In Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy at the beginning of Cloud's storyline, Tidus says he's too gloomy and advises him to "practice smiling", a reference to a Final Fantasy X scene where Yuna says she learned to practice smiling when she's sad.
  • In Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy, when facing Kefka, he asks, "Sin's toxin get to you?" referring to when Lulu suggests that he suffers from it.
  • The name of Tidus's manikin, Ephemeral Vision, is another reference to him being a dream of the fayth.
  • In Destiny Odyssey II, Tidus along with Cloud, defends Firion from the Emperor and exclaims "A friend's dream is our dream... We'll defend it together!". This is possible reference to what Tidus said before fighting Yunalesca, "This is our story! Now let's see this thing through the end!"

Trivia

Tidus throws a Moogle

Tidus throwing a moogle ball.

  • Tidus was the first character to have his English voice actor named.
  • After clearing the moogle icon in Inward Chaos with Tidus, the moves Sphere Shot, Wither Shot, and Jecht Shot will randomly produce a moogle ball instead of a blitzball. This is accompanied by a moogle's signature "Kupo" cry. This also happens in Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy after completing the "Chasm of the Rotting Earth" dungeon in Confessions of the Creator and having Tidus talk to the moogle.
    • While the moogle ball is only an aesthetic change in Dissidia Final Fantasy, in Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy the power of Jecht Shot is increased slightly if executed with the moogle ball.
  • Tidus has the largest number of chainable HP attacks in the game. As a result, between standard and combo HP attacks, Tidus can simultaneously equip the most HP attacks out of any character, ten in Dissidia Final Fantasy and eleven in Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy.
  • In Dissidia Final Fantasy, Tidus's EX Burst has the second-highest base power after Cloud, assuming both are at full HP. In Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy his EX Burst is the fourth-highest, with Tifa and Gilgamesh also being stronger.
  • If Tidus has full HP the blitzball finishing blow at the end of his EX Burst is the strongest single hit in the game, bearing 55 base power, doubled due to his EX Mode damage bonus.
  • In Dissidia Final Fantasy Tidus requires the most AP to master all his attacks, needing 4,260 AP. In Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy he needs 2,560 AP, giving him the third-highest AP requirements after Lightning and Prishe.
  • Tidus, Jecht, and Cloud of Darkness had one of their costumes altered between Dissidia Final Fantasy and Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy.
    • In Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy after clearing Arcade Mode with Tidus, the victory screen shows him wearing his original alt outfit from Dissidia Final Fantasy rather than the modified outfit in Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy. He shares this distinction with Jecht.
  • In one of the early trailers, Tidus is seen in his original costume in the intro scene as opposed to his Dissidia Final Fantasy costume.
