The Weeping City of Mhach is a level 60 alliance raid in Final Fantasy XIV added in patch 3.3, and the second part of Shadow of Mhach raid series.

Story[]

Deep in the Yafaem Saltmoor lie the ruins of the fabled city of Mhach—a civilization of the Fifth Astral Era whose prosperity was built upon unparalleled magicks of destruction. It is to this ancient edifice, and its vaults of occult secrets, that you and the Redbills plan your next foray.

You expect to encounter voidsent—the same terrible beings that grounded Radlia and her crew—but on your path to retrieve a relic of incalculable power, can you prevail over the unfettered miseries of the Weeping City itself?

Duty Finder

During the Fifth Astral Era, Mhach was one of the cities that flourished during the Age of Magic. Dedicated to the arts of the sorceress Shatotto, the Mhachi black mages would seek to harness the power of the Void to further the arts of destruction. As a security measure for dealing with the dangerous entities native to that realm, the Mhachi created an artifact called the Nullstone to banish any out of control Voidsent from the Source. This Nullstone was secured within a great pyramid in the heart of the city itself. Though the Mhachi themselves were undone by the Great Flood, the ruins of the city managed to survive even beyond the Seventh Umbral Calamity.

Following the events on the Void Ark, Radlia had swiped Utata's ectocompass in hopes of tracking down the Void Ark for her own ends. Unbeknownst to the Redbills or Radlia, the ectocompass locked onto not the Void Ark itself, but rather the Queen's Coffin, which had since been removed by Diabolos. The Redbills soon realized this after Utata made a replacement. Thereafter, several members Radlia's crew arrived, mentioning how Radlia and her men were attacked by a spider demon in old ruins. Leofard realizes the truth when he eavesdrops on a linkpearl he planted on Radlia, revealing they were attacked by voidsent seeking a "Mhachi artifact." Upon learning the ruins were in Yafaem Saltmoor, Cait Sith realized the voidsent may be searching for the Nullstone in Mhach itself. Leofard is not one to pass down an adventure, in spite of the bad blood between him and Radlia, and sets off to the Weeping City.

Landing in a swamp just outside the city entrance, Cait Sith leads an alliance of adventurers into the city while the Redbills look for any survivors. They fought their way through Voidsent, the ghosts of Mhach, and the guardians in the Tomb of the Nullstone. Upon defeating the final guardian, Calofisteri, Cait Sith claimed the artifact. Before they could leave, an unexpected visitor appeared. Ferdiad, who had escaped from Amdapor Keep, appeared with Radlia as his hostage and demanding the Nullstone as ransom. Leofold called his bluff, stating he cares not what she does to her after the trouble she caused. This threw Ferdiad off, leaving Cait Sith an opening to use the Nullstone to drive him off.

Back at the paddock, Radlia explained that she learned about the both the Void Ark and the Nullstone from a tome she plundered in the Sea of Clouds. But the loss of most of her crew to Diabolos's minions has left her devastated, and turns down Cait Sith's suggestion that she joins up with the Redbills. She lets Leofard keep the tome, who hopes Cait Sith can learn to fully harness the power of the Nullstone in order to combat the Shadow Queen. Meanwhile, Ferdiad reports his failure to Diabolos, who states the time for skulking the shadows is over.

Objectives[]

  1. Clear the peat bogs.
  2. Defeat Arachne Eve.
  3. Clear the Shatotto Memorial.
  4. Defeat Forgall.
  5. Clear the security corridor.
  6. Defeat Ozma.
  7. Defeat Calofisteri.

Progression[]

The alliance begins in the peat bogs outside the city, with Cait Sith expositing along the way. Large crocodiles and giant spiders must be defeated before the alliance can enter the city gates, where Arachne Eve lurks near the wreckage of the Talons' airship. This spider queen utilizes elaborate webbing and ambush tactics to try to snare her prey. Upon being defeated by her "prey," the alliance heads deeper.

Eventually, the alliance stumbles upon the ghosts of the Mhachi within the sunken city. Clearing the way to the Shatotto Memorial, they encounter Forgall attempting to break the seals on the Tomb of the Nullstone. Initialy hoping to use the lifeforce of the adventurers to break the seal, the tables turn as he's forced to use up all his power in a tense struggle. Once the Voidsent noble is slain, the group can now enter the pyramid.

Within the Tomb, telltale architecture similar to the Void Ark decorates the interior. The first guardian, the towering Headstone, fights the party with epigraph magicks and summoned entities in the security corridor. The alliance then enters the Gloriole, where the second guardian awaits, the dreadful Ozma. This geometric, shapeshifting entity employs many tactics to thwart the aliance, even pulling them into another dimension with a Black Hole. After escaping the trap and defeating Ozma, the alliance can finally enter the Tomb of the Nullstone.

The only obstacle left is Calofisteri, a sorceress who guards the Nullstone personally. Having augmented her form with the power of the Void, she attacks the alliance with her morphic mane of hair, which she forms into numerous blades and can detach as deadly hair extensions. Upon her defeat, she relinquishes the Nullstone, completing the instance.
